About Bill Skipworth

Living in Hawaii for 3 years now. Nothing better than living in paradise!

Bill Skipworth purchased this studio in 2012

Why Bill Skipworth chose Kailua-Kona

My folks have been coming and staying at the Islander for a few years and I always thought about buying a unit for friends to come and visit and stay. It's a beautiful spot and so conveient to town and activites.

What makes this studio unique

I remodled my condo from top to bottom. Took 6 months and I'm really pleased with the outcome!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed our stay at the Kona Islander Inn. The place was clean and had lots of amenities to use during our stay: big beach towels, boogie boards, parasol, a big cool bag, etc. The kitchen had everything we needed, too. It was also very easy to get free parking for our rental car. The area itself is nice, lots of restaurants and shopping close-by but not too loud or crowded. There is also a nice, private pool area in the Kona Islander Inn itself and you can use washer and dryer for a few quarters just a few doors away. We traveled with our 4-year-old who used the extra air-bed, which was - according to him - super comfy. We had some problems with the shower during our stay but Bill was very eager to find a quick solution, which was great.

perfect location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this studio for more than a month for work & pleasure and it was quite enjoyable. The location in Kona cannot be beat with being across the street from the water and being in close walking distance to a big selection of great restaurants and bars. Perfect location for a relaxed vacation for 1-2 people.

The studio is oriented well so that the balcony stays shaded and cool facing the well vegetated courtyard. The studio has a sturdy lockable gate/screen door so you can leave the front and balcony doors open for airflow in the evenings, and this kept the studio very cool and comfortable for most of my stay. I used the AC sparingly on occasion, mostly in the daytime. The AC unit is overall pretty loud for sleeping, so for particularly hot nights without airflow, earplugs are useful. I would say the AC would be completely unnecessary if the overhead fan worked properly. I could not get the overhead fan to operate past a very very slow speed. (The fan remote worked for the light, but did not change the fan speed). I would recommend to fix this overhead fan or a small portable fan for the unit.

The studio was well equipped with everything I needed plus more. The kitchen and bathroom were generously equipped. The private high-speed internet was excellent for work and for streaming, and I even watched a hockey game one night on the TV. The balcony has a selection of beach gear like fins, snorkels, bodyboards, etc.

Parking--Slight drawback for this location is that there is not enough spaces for tenants at the property, so if you come back in the evenings there will be no parking left and you will need to park on the street. Luckily there is really plenty of parking on the street on the mauka side (island inward direction) of the property, but can be annoying if you have a bunch of luggage or gear and you're trying to offload late and don't want to walk. There was plenty of parking right in front of the studio during the day.

I would definitely stay at this location again. It was fairly priced, clean, well-equipped, and an just the perfect location for a relaxed stay in beautiful Kona.

Very relaxing

  • 4 of 5

This property really does have everything at your fingertips. It was easy to go out and enjoy all of Kona. The condo was comfortable and adequate. The only thing I would use as criticism would be in the bathroom. The curtain in the shower was hard to spread across the length as it isn't actually a proper showering curtain, but a window covering and the fan is also very weak for ventilation. We would most definitely rent this again!

Nice and central but needs improving

  • 3 of 5

This is a lovely property, however, we didn't find the front desk very helpful or friendly.

In our opinion, the mattress and pillows were too soft. Darker curtains would be nice for a sleep-in.

The air conditioner is sooooo loud and old and the speed for the ceiling fan only seems to work on low. If it worked on a higher speed we would have been happy to only use that sometimes.

It was nice and central; walking distance to shops. Bill will give you some tips on things to do etc.

Make sure you book a taxi to the airport the night before if you're on an early flight as there aren't many in town and there's nobody at the front desk to help.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry you had such a miserable stay at my little Hawaiian condo. I pride myself of having a 4.9 rating on both travel sites. Most people find my memory foam bed nice and comfy. Too bad it's not to your liking. Room air conditioners are inherently a little noisy, as they all are in all hotels and motels. It's just the nature of the Beast. I find it best to open the sliding glass door and the front door and let the gentle trade breezes cool the condo at night. Again, I'm sorry you had such a dismal stay. I wish you the best in finding more suitable accommodations in your future travels.

Awesome studio in heart of Kailua Kona

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this studio in Feb 2017 for 4 nights. It had everything we needed for our stay from the full size fridge to the beach gear, it was awesome. The queen Murphy bed was super comfortable. Sitting on the balcony was very private. Lots of trees and greenery to look at. The Kona Islander Inn is older but has lots of character. This studio has been renovated and is a charming place to stay. lots of room for 2 people. Bill was great to deal with and responded promptly to any questions.

Nice Location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at the condo for 7 nights. It was a cozy condo with everything we needed. I appreciated the extras he included - beach towels, chairs & mats. They were nice to have. Loved listening to Kapa Hawaiian fm on the radio while we were there. The hot plate came in handy cooking up some great seafood dishes & the pantry was nicely stocked. How nice to walk to the farmers market to get some papayas & Kona coffee to use. Being able to mix a mai tai then walk across the street to see a fabulous sunset was great! The condo grounds was nicely landscaped & we enjoyed being able to walk down the street and listen to some great music. Bill was a very thoughtful host with helpful dining and points of interest recommendations. Had a great time in Kona. Can't wait to come back! Mahalo! Bill
