Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 2

I’m an adorable petite cottage fully furnished with laminate flooring, tile counter tops, a ¾ bath, deck on three sides, private parking and quiet surroundings 4.5 miles from Friday Harbor. A small well-mannered dog could be my friend, but you need to take your dog with you when you leave. My walk-in closet is off my one bedroom with a queen bed and I have ample storage cabinets as well as a stack washer-dryer. The kitchen is fully stocked with all necessary accoutrements for cooking and eating (food not included). Free WiFi is available. I will remain faithful for at least two days. My friends do no drugs or tobacco including marijuana.

The setting is quiet & rural with beautiful, safe walking and biking from my deck. A part-year stream runs through my property and there is a gas barbeque on my deck with outdoor chairs and a table.

About Dennis

Gayle has operated Bountiful Herbs Farm & Nursery for over 20 years and is active at the San Juan Island Farmers' Market. Dennis is retired and is Gayle's back office worker; he also takes on multiple part-time jobs including camp store clerk at Lakedale Campground, tour bus driving all summer and others.

Dennis purchased this cottage in 1994

Why Dennis chose Friday Harbor

It is quiet & away from the wind and cooler weather along the shoreline. The surroundings are more conducive to herb growing and uninterrupted walks on and about country lanes.

What makes this cottage unique

When we bought the property it was a house in a bowl. Through the blessings of God it is now a place of beauty and serenity.

Notes:
San Juan County is in a 'Rain Shadow' and receives about half the rain of Seattle. Tourism tends to be seasonal with the summer months being the most crowded and expensive, However, the fall, spring and even the winter can be very attractive, and less expensive, for those wishing a quieter environment. Consider it!

Clean, comfortable, relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our 2 night stay here & highly recommend this place. Dennis was very nice, checked in on us to see if we needed anything, & offered suggestions of places to eat & things to do which was greatly appreciated. The cottage was clean (spotless in fact) & in a beautiful shady setting. We appreciated the tv, the coffee, the comfortable living room furniture, & the bathroom (while small) made the best use of its space, had everything we needed & was very tastefully decorated. It would’ve been nice to have luggage racks & a window you could slightly open at night when it got a little stuffy inside but neither were a big deal to us. The bed was comfortable & had nice linens but the springs did squeak every time we moved even just a little but again, that was a minor concern to us since everything else was so great.

Beautiful and quiet

  • 5 of 5

The "cabin" was very well appointed and in a lovely setting. We were not there during the day, but rather taking in the island, coming back in the evening to such a comfortable setting was a real treat. Enjoyed it very much.

Owner's Response: This is what we treasure about our guests. They enjoy the scenic beauty of our island. Not here to have a wild night ??on the town??. Just doesn't exist here. Quiet & serene. Some call it boring, but it's what we love.

Loved the cabin, the location, and the owners were most hospitable!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was very comfortable. My husband has MS, so the walk-in shower was great. We appreciated all the provisions they made available for their guests. The location was also wonderful...close to town, but still in the woods and quiet. Thank you, Dennis and Gayle, for a lovely time!

Cute remote get-away, simple but comfortable

  • 4 of 5

Simple little cottage in a wooded area, away from any main roads. Very cute and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much and the hosts were quick to respond to questions (we never saw them during our stay, we indicated that we were getting away from everything so they respected our privacy). This is a "guest cottage" set apart from the main house where the hosts live, and is separated enough that we felt we truly had our own space.

All the basics are covered (cookware, dishes, comfortable seating, entertainment setup) for everything you need, but everything is quite minimalistic (small and old TV, tiny shower, etc). The bed is a comfortable soft pillow-top, and while I prefer a firm mattress I had no issues and slept well. Very quiet and relaxing. While it's out in the middle of nowhere, it's still San Juan Island so nothing is really THAT far away. 10-15 minute drive to get to anything you need.

There are no windows, but instead there are 3 doors (one is a french door that acts as a large window). The two smaller doors have magnetic screen curtains which work to let air in (no A/C) but are also kind of annoying when going in and out of the cottage. Would be nice if they were actually screen doors instead, but not a big deal. WiFi fluctuated a bit in speeds between 1Mbps-20Mbps (Netflix would pause every so often to buffer up) but was adequate. No mobile reception at all (Verizon) for about a 2-mile radius around the cottage, which is indicated in the description.

We would (and very well might) stay here again the next time we get a chance to visit San Juan!

Simply Excellent

The property and the hosts were simply superb! We loved the peace and quiet of the delightful cottage and grounds. I teach online so WiFi is imperative. The WiFi is a good as it gets. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Quiet, beautiful and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

The whole visit from start to finish was easy, set up for our comfort, and ease of checking and out. What a wonderful space? After camping for a week, it was fantastic to have such a wonderful place to transition to the modern world again. There were fans for us to cool the space off at night and we didn’t lack anything for cooking, or getting cleaned up. The hosts were very quick to respond via email regarding a couple of questions we had. What a great stay!
