The Cliffhouse is a very special place. A 1,000 sq ft cabin atop a mountain on 40 acres over looking Lake Broken Bow. Surrounded by 6,000 acres of National Forest and US Core of Engineer land.

The locals describe the view as 'the best view in all of McCurtain county - period'.

Unparalleled hiking, mountain biking, bird watching right from your doorstep. .

Also Check out the Summit House opening in May 2016! >>VRBO Listing #807469

The Cliffhouse is entirely off-grid. We make our own power, water, hot water, and have our own septic system. Be 100% green and still have all the luxuries of home!

The Cliffhouse has one queen bedroom downstairs and a 350 sq ft queen loft bedroom upstairs.

The upstairs loft is accessed via ships ladder and has breathtaking views over the lake.

There is a full bathroom with shower and a half bath, both downstairs

The 600 sq ft deck faces the lake and has incredible panoramic views.

Max occupancy is two couples or a family of five.

The Cliffhouse may not be suitable for children under ten years old. (ladder)

Access - The Cliffhouse sits 5 miles off the highway and is accessed by US Forest Service roads. Its a beautiful drive, but you will need a car with some clearance and a bit of driving skill to make it in. We often times see white tail deer, turkey, and birds of prey including red tail hawks and various owls. The first 2 miles of the drive is easy, you can drive 25 mph. The remaining 3 miles is slower and requires some attention. You will cross 4 or 5 small creeks on the way in. Water is rarely more than 4 inches deep. There are also grades up to 12% on gravel roads.

There is cell phone service at the Cliffhouse. Verizon and AT&T works best. Sprint does not work at all. There is a new Verizon 4G LTE tower across the lake, we have seen speeds up to 15MB from the deck.

You will need to bring your own entertainment for the Cliffhouse. No cable TV planned for the near term.

ATVs - Seasonal riding is allowed on the surrounding US Forest Roads in May - Sept 15. However you need to review ALL the rules very carefully and follow them closely. No two up riding unless machine is specifically designed for such. All kids under 18 must wear helmets. STAY ON THE ROADS. No alcohol. The local rangers enjoy enforcing the rules to the last letter. Its possible for a group of riders to rack up several thousand dollars in fines......

About Andy & Debbie

Andy and I love to travel. We have been to many places such as Canada, Mexico, Hawaii and all over the US. We discovered Broken Bow, OK in 2007 when we began Boating and ATV'g. We instantly fell in love with the area. It quickly became our dream to own land inside of the National Forest. We realized our dream April of 2012. Andy and I immediately began construction on our cabin we call The Cliffhouse. We wanted to share our dream with everyone else as well. We invite to come out to The Cliffhouse. You will feel rejuvenated, relaxed and glad you came. Please give us a call or email us with questions.

Andy & Debbie purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Andy & Debbie chose Oklahoma

We wanted some acreage for privacy and possible future development.

About as private (and beautiful) as you can get

  • 5 of 5

Very nice cabin with incredible view. Very clean and up to date with all necessary amenities. Huge deck on the front facing due east so the sunrises across the lake behind the mountains. Beautiful! Take everything you need food-wise as once you get up here you won't want to leave. In three days we heard 2 vehicles on the road down below us, once someone else's generator for a just few minutes and maybe half a dozen airplanes way overhead. There are 3 cabins spread out over the 80 acres and no one else anywhere around. You can't see or hear the other cabins. Really private. Solar powered and even with the first 2 days being overcast our generator never came on until the morning we left and that only for 20 minutes or so. Based on the other reviews we took our 4WD ranch pickup and had no trouble at all getting in even in a rainstorm. Any SUV or crossover should be fine but a little Honda, etc., might drag bottom a couple of times on the way up. For those planning to use the upstairs loft with queen bed and futon, be aware that it really is a ships ladder to get up there and requires a bit of dexterity. No problem but if you're a senior citizen plan on sleeping in the master on the first floor ;-) We loved this place and have already talked to some friends about coming back as a group next year!

Gorgeous Views, this cabin is meant for isolation and privacy.

  • 3 of 5

This cabin was nice but needed a better and more thorough cleaning. The views were spectacular. I was looking for a place of isolation and I truly found it. You will need a 4x4 on this mountain, the road is rough and narrow. I had two flats because of this road. Luckily the people of Broken Bow are helpful. Make sure to take everything you need for cooking including condiments. There was coffee provided and a few spices, but that was pretty much it. It was great to have a washer and dryer in the cabin. The spare bathroom sink did not work due to a leak. Luckily it was just me. The owner, Andy, is really nice and helpful. All in all, I enjoyed my stay but a few things did go wrong. I also went fly fishing with a wonderful guide named Morgan that I booked through the beavers bend fly shop. Great People there. Morgan taught me to fly fish and now I'm hooked! I loved the area and the Jewelry and Tea shop was great! Since I am a tea lover, I met a wonderful woman there who made her own jewelry and imported Chinese tea which you can sample. Good visit, the town and people really made it more pleasant! Also you must stop into the Rolling Fork Takery for a meal, awesome food there.

Wonderful Mountain Perch!

  • 5 of 5

Just finished up a long weekend with the family here. In short - it was excellent! Wonderful cabin on top of the mountain with spectacular views even with all the rain. Enjoyed the deck and star gazing when we could. The road in and out is an adventure but very beautiful. Has been 4 or 5 years since our last visit to this area and had forgotten how pretty and peaceful it is! We enjoyed hikes, fishing, and renting a boat for some fun! Cabin was a great home base and very relaxing. The setup is excellent. Would love to come back. Thanks!

A slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at the Reserve at Bear Creek, and at Cliffhouse. We booked two houses (Cliffhouse and Bella Vista) with Andy and Debbie for this trip, to accommodate all our family members.

Andy and Debbie are the perfect hosts. They are quick to respond to questions, follow up to ensure all is well, and truly give the sense that they really want your stay to be remarkable. And it is sure to be so.

These properties are a rare gem, not only for travelers from the DFW area, but also stand out among any properties we've had the good fortune to enjoy, around the country and even overseas. Truly remote, you can stand on the deck in the evening, and not see a single light that indicates a human presence, nor hear a sound, other than the wind blowing through the leaves, frogs, crickets and the occasional coyote. The view is of mountains and a lake that have been untouched by the scaring development that has consumed other less insulated areas.

To be sure, there is no easy access here. The local grocery store is small. Restaurant options are good enough, but limited. The road "home" to the cabins requires an SUV and a sense of adventure. All of that adds to the appeal. As you turn off the highway onto the forest service roads, you'll feel layers of stress peel away with every creek you cross and each turn you make. The views get bigger and even better as you start to go uphill, and the drive sets the stage for the property at the top. The vista is unparalled, and the peacefullness is complete.

Cliffhouse takes full advantage of the remarkable location with huge windows and cozy couch oritented to appreciate the view. The young and the young at heart will love the ladder up to the loft bedroom. The kitchen has all you need for a perfect visit, but it's the deck you will want to spend your time on. Sit back, relax, bring a book, enjoy conversation with someone you love, or just meditate. In the evening, build a fire, roast smores, turn off all lights in the house and look up at the stars. You'll be amazed. The world needs more places just like this.

Awesome view

The cabin is very comfortable and has a breathtaking view of Broken Bow Lake. The weather was hot and humid, but the air conditioning worked well. Will definitely be back.
