Great location right on the beach!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Makaha Shores. This location is wonderful, quiet side of Oahu, right on the sand and ocean front. This is one of our favorite spots on Oahu after spending time driving around the island. A couple things I'd change; add A/C & update the condo, it's original from when the building was built. Otherwise, great place, very quiet and wonderful location on the beach! We would definitely stay there again!

Go For The View!

  • 4 of 5

I agree with most everything earlier reviewers said. It's old, far from downtown and everything from furniture and dishes and towels are outdated. BUT it is reasonable, right on the beach and you really can sleep listening to the waves every night. If you're not interested in the trendy stuff in Honolulu or spending your days shopping at Ala Moana Center, this is not the place for you. But access to the north shore is easier from here, as is access to Pearl Harbor. I did not miss the horrendous traffic in Honolulu. The beach is beautiful, but be VERY VERY respectful of the waves and undertow. My wife waded in water under her knees and was knocked down by the wave going back out. She's now seeing her chiropractor for possible ligament damage!

You are not coming for the lodging!! Amazing location. Lodging like Spring break Crack house.

  • 3 of 5

We have stayed here before and will again. The quality of places varies a bit. None we have been in are really nice. Very run down. Never updated since built. Cracked ceiling, nasty carpeted floor that smells like stale cigarette smoke, old linens, junk kitchen stuff, moldy bathroom, old mattress, like a spring break pad from 1980. This is the first time we have had Internet which was nice. But, despite all this. ..the location is amazing. Sleep with the doors open every night and listen to the ocean, best sleep despite the mattress. If we did not have family in the building, it is unlikely that we would choose to come here more than once, unless we surfed big waves, then it would be the best place, better than north Shore. Sunny all the time, raining in the valley and in Honolulu, sunny in makaha. Amazing snorkeling. Turtle cleaning station right off the beach. This is a locals beach. Check in with life guards and locals on the beach before you get too adventurous on their waves. Also, crazy shore break and rip current, plenty of people get plucked out by life guards, not for weak swimmers. Nice walking/ running trail at end of road at Yokohama, blow holes, bird sanctuary, cool views. You are not going for this rental, just it's proximity to the beach.

Beautiful view, comfortable stay

  • 4 of 5

Loved everything about this place, including comfort of the bed, view from every angle and helpfulness of the manager. Took off a star because there are so many lights outside at night and no adequate window coverings that the room is very bright. Bring your eyeshade for sleeping.
