About Lee Sherman

This propery was originally part of the Idlepine Lodge resort, operated 1922-1968, divided up into lot parcels in 1970's. Owner grew up spending summers here and eventually inherited property in 1988 from grandparents. We reside here in the summer and spend winters in Vero Beach, Florida.

Lee Sherman purchased this cottage in 1988

Why Lee Sherman chose Vermont

It is a peaceful lake where you can kayak, canoe, paddle board and relax. It is a perfect lake for water skiing. We are nestled in a cove where you can swim laps or swim out to our float.

What makes this cottage unique

Lake Fairlee is my favorite place in the whole world with beautiful views of the Green Mountains. The lake looks like glass in the early morning hours and while you sip your coffee you can hear the loons calling to each other. In early fall you awake to a thick fog which burns off as the morning continues.

Perfect place to spend Memorial Day Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our stay on the Lake was perfect. The location couldn't be better, and the cottage is well appointed with everything you need. We enjoyed jumping in the Lake each morning as well as sitting on the dock taking in the view. We love this part of Vermont, and enjoyed visiting all the familiar spots nearby. Thanks so much for our stay, Lee and Norman!

A fabulous week on Lake Fairlee

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I had the most wonderful stay at Lee and Normans' cottage. The cottage was clean and very nicely decorated. The kitchen was well equipped with every thing you need and then some. The extra bonus of a front loading washer and dryer was very convenient. The hosts were delightful and made us feel right at home. The setting is beautiful and quiet (late Aug/early Sept). We enjoyed the lake every day, swimming, kayaking or just sitting down on the dock and enjoying the beautiful setting. Our stay exceeded our expectations. We’d go back in a heart beat and hope to do so in the future. Thank you so much Lee and Norman.

Serene Peaceful Weekend on Lake Fairlee

  • 5 of 5

This likely popular summer destination had a very quiet peaceful feel during our annual fall vacation to Vermont. We cancelled hotel reservations a month out; in favor of something different. This was our 1st experience with VRBO and we couldn't have been more pleased. Lee & Norman were fantastic hosts. Their quaintly decorated cottage felt like home and the views from the deck lakeside are serene. A perfect place for parents with small children. We had a great time at Idlepine!

Fantastic week at Lake Fairlee

  • 5 of 5

My husband, I and our 2 pugs stayed at Pine Bluff cabin while I was taking classes at King Arthur Flour. What a fantastic place! Lee and Norman made us feel right at home in the quiet, idyllic setting on the lake, and it was a wonderful week of respite and relaxation. Nice to find out Norman was a fellow home wine maker, and we were able to exchange bottles (the Chianti is excellent)! Hoping to make the cabin stay part of our yearly getaways to lovely Vermont.

Perfect week in quaint cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at "Pine Bluff" was perfect. The quaint cottage and immaculate. The furnishing was very comfortable and the kitchen and bath were well stocked with everything we needed (dishes, pots and pans, towels, etc). There was a large capacity washer and dryer that was very handy. We enjoyed the deck and gas grill, as well as the dock and canoe on Fairlee Lake. There was also a paddle boat, plus two kayaks that were delivered just before we Departed. The owners, Lee and Norman, who live in the house next to our cottage, were wonderful hosts. (My only suggestion would be to add a cheese knife to your well-stocked kitchen.)

There are several great hiking trails nearby, as well as Ward's Berry Farm (U-pick- be sure to check hours) in Strafford, wonderful shopping and restaurants in Woodstock, and easy access for day trips to Stowe and Burlington. The Vermont Flannel Store, with locations in both Woodstock and East Barre was a favorite for high quality clothing and blankets, and unique t-shirts. Be sure to stop in Montpelier on the way to Stowe or Burlington and look for (children's store) and (craft store). Our favorite haunts in the town of Fairlee were Whippi-Dip (soft-serve and hard ice cream, great clam strips and other breakfast/lunch/dinner items - great food at a great price!). Lena's (Greek and pizza) and the Fairlee Diner (breakfast). The Sugar Bush Farm was our favorite for tastings, a great variety of cheese, maple syrup, and other VT goods. The staff was extremely helpful! Be sure to pick up some Red Kite Caramels, sold in various area shops, including the Co-Op in (town).
