About Betty Slay

Our family has been at this spot since the 60’s, where there was once a plank-on-plank cabin.

The old cabin was replaced with the RIVERDECK CABIN with a deck right on the river at what is now Main Road and Slay Road.

Succeeding generations have been enjoying the activities that Ruidoso has to offer: hiking, fishing, horse racing and horseback riding, as well as skiing and snowboarding.

We enjoy the nights out to dinner in the village and the strolls down main street shops, as well as the occasional side trip to nearby attractions.

We’re sure that you will enjoy a visit here as have our family and guests, most of which have been returning year after year.

Why Betty Slay chose New Mexico

Family owned and operated since 1985.

What makes this cabin unique

Ruidoso, the regional hub of Lincoln County, NM, offers horse racing, golfing, biking, fishing, hiking, museums and performing arts as well as skiing and snowboarding at Ski Apache on Sierra Blanca.

Perfect spot for anything and everything in Ruidoso and surrounding areas!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in 101B Slay Road over the 4th of July weekend. We liked the location a lot since it's right off a main road through Ruidoso which easily connects to the highways going out of town. There are a lot of things to do outside of Ruidoso like the Spencer Theater, Fort Stanton, Lincoln, Capulin, and tons of walking trails through the national forest and around lakes.

We were immediately impressed by how maintained this cabin is on the outside! It looked brand new when we pulled up. It has a small front porch and it looks just like a mountain cabin should look! The deck in the back was equally perfect. We ate almost every meal outside because of this.

Inside looks like it was professionally decorated with the area bear motif in prominent display. We also liked all of the deer décor, as well. All of the furniture was in good condition. The TV has cable and a DVD player hooked to it. The couch is plenty big enough to sleep on. The beds were very comfortable with a wide assortment of pillows to choose from. We liked that we could open the windows to let the fresh air in at night while still having the blinds drawn to keep out light. There is some traffic noise since it is close to a major road but stopped every evening by 10pm. Every room had a ceiling fan to help keep it cool. We were there during 90 degree weather and we were comfortable. The closets were big and had hangers in them. Each room also has a huge dresser and night stands to store stuff in. Plus bedside lamps which I always love.

The yard was just beautiful! A lot of places just let the yard go native but this yard had an abundance of plants, bushes and green grass. The owner also had flower pots on the front and back porch which made us feel at home. Speaking of home, we were able to cook most of our meals since it had a full kitchen. One night we grilled steak outside!

The value was unbeatable considering the location, amenities, conveniences and beauty. We would definitely stay here again!

PERFECT LOCATION AND PLACE!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin, the owner (Betty) and the location were perfect. Even when it rained, you could sit on the porch and be refreshed and at peace. The cabin had everything one could need, and was clean and cool! Even tho there is no air conditioning, the rooms stayed pleasant and at night were superb! Can't say enough about Betty and her wonderful place - beautiful landscaping outside and décor inside. We walked to downtown for Starbucks. And got to feed the deer from our back porch every morning and evening. Couldn't have asked for more. A wonderful respite from July heat back home in Dallas.

Clean little cabin on the river

  • 4 of 5

My kids and I stayed at the Riverbend B cabin. The cabin was very clean and had all of the necessities that you would need to cook a basic meal. The location was quiet and peaceful. The back yard was on the river, and beautiful! The owners live next door, and they were very friendly and not obtrusive. The only thing I didn't like was that the cabin has no air conditioning, and if you're like me, you want an AC when it's 85 degrees outside. It did cool off in the evenings, of course, but we had to leave the Windows open, and I don't like leaving windows open when I sleep for safety reasons. This cabin would be perfect in the winter! Also- bring your own pillows. Other than that, I highly recommend this cabin!

Clean and comfortable cabin in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Relaxing from the moment we arrived. The cabin is very cute with enough room for a family. The deck is where I spent most of my time though. The sound and beauty of the Rio Ruidoso makes the cabin something very special. They ensured that the hummingbird feeders were full and plentiful. There was also a flycatcher who made a nest on the porch that we loved observing. There were deer who came to the river as well. It is located in the lower part of the upper canyon so you can get anywhere quickly. If they ever wanted to sell this cabin, I would want to buy it. As it is, everyone should visit and enjoy.

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I began corresponding with Ms. Slay it was a warm and wonderful experience. The sound of the river from the back yard was relaxing and our 12 and 10 yr old grandchildren had a good time exploring it. We loved the wildlife. Hummingbirds and deer in the back yard kept us in awe. The beds were good. I usually have a little trouble sleeping away from home, but We felt like we were home! It is close to shopping, restaraunts, and lots of entertainment.

We take our grandchildren on vacation every year and have been some pretty spectacular places like Jamaica, Cayman, Disneyworld, and cruises and they say this has been their favorite. That, in large part, was because of our little home away from home. Thank you, Ms. Slay. We and our grandchildren are looking forward to our return next year!
