About the property

2 Bedrooms+, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 5-6

Enjoy our 5 acre secluded retreat at the edge of the Forest, where you can look out across a meadow to a stunning view of the Peaks. Our home has solar power and a rainwater collection system, and is at the edge of the ponderosa pine forest, which means you can hike, mountain bike, or cross country ski right out the door, or drive a few miles to a network of classic trails. A great home base for adventures. The cabin is located 3 miles from Snowbowl Road, which takes you to downhill skiing in winter and awesome hiking in summer. We are only an hour from the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater and Anasazi ruins (Wapatki & Walnut Canyon), and 17 minutes from downtown Flagstaff. Our guesthouse (aka, the Roost) can be a base for all your northern Arizona adventures.

The Roost has new furniture and amenities, including 1 queen bed, one queen sleeper sofa, and three twin beds. Its upstairs location next to pines gives it a treehouse feel, perfect for viewing the Peaks and birdwatching. Resident elk and deer commonly graze on the property.

The guesthouse is attached to our main house, but is completely separated and has its own entrance and parking area. It has a private sandstone patio with outdoor grill, table, and chairs.

About Suzanne

I'm a 12th generation Arizona native, who grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to Flagstaff in 1975. I always wanted to build a cabin in the forest from the ground up, and had the opportunity to do so in the early 1990's, when this special land was sold to me by an old cowboy. I tried to build as sustainably as I could, with many local materials, and have a rainwater harvesting system as well as grid-tied solar power.

We have traveled all over North America, lived for nearly a decade on two other continents, and still feel the Southwest is the best place to call home. We love the variety of landscape, ecology, and climate within a few hour's travel, as well as the Native American influence in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We made use of the binoculars and the bird book. Having supper on the patio and watching the birds on the feeders was a treat. The view of Mt. Humphrey is fantastic!

Very peaceful weekend

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. Everything went well, our host was very kind and easy to contact. The property was excellent and was what we were looking for, peaceful, off the beaten path yet easy access to everything that there is to do in northern AZ. The cabin was cute, clean and well stocked. Note. There are stairs involved to access the cabin which you should determine from the listing. Would not hesitate to return in the future. great location and perfect for get away weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was the most perfect place to stay for our needs over the weekend! A get away weekend to northern arizona for 2! Hitting our bucket list of getting up early to drive 2 hours to Horseshoe Bend and Antelope canyon from Flagstaff to get beautiful photos was perfect for our short weekend. The Red Roost was in the perfect location as a short drive to get into town for dinner but nice to be out of town a little for a quiet night. All communication with Suzanne was wonderful and easy to find the place! Highly recommended!

Quiet accommodations with SPECTACULAR views

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough good things about our stay! This is the most unique setting for a quiet getaway to Northern Arizona. CLEAN and WELL MAINTAINED! Minutes from Flagstaff, it provides the perfect feeling of being away from it all, yet close enough to everything you'd want :)
