Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms+, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Enjoy our 5 acre secluded retreat at the edge of the Forest, where you can look out across a meadow to a stunning view of the Peaks. Our home has solar power and a rainwater collection system, and is at the edge of the ponderosa pine forest, which means you can hike, mountain bike, or cross country ski right out the door, or drive a few miles to a network of classic trails. A great home base for adventures. The cabin is located 3 miles from Snowbowl Road, which takes you to downhill skiing in winter and awesome hiking in summer. We are only an hour from the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Meteor Crater and Anasazi ruins (Wapatki & Walnut Canyon), and 17 minutes from downtown Flagstaff. Our guesthouse (aka, the Roost) can be a base for all your northern Arizona adventures.

The Roost has new furniture and amenities, including 1 queen bed, one queen sleeper sofa, and three twin beds. Its upstairs location next to pines gives it a treehouse feel, perfect for viewing the Peaks and birdwatching. Resident elk and deer commonly graze on the property.

The guesthouse is attached to our main house, but is completely separated and has its own entrance and parking area. It has a private sandstone patio with outdoor grill, table, and chairs.

About Suzanne

I'm a 12th generation Arizona native, who grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and moved to Flagstaff in 1975. I always wanted to build a cabin in the forest from the ground up, and had the opportunity to do so in the early 1990's, when this special land was sold to me by an old cowboy. I tried to build as sustainably as I could, with many local materials, and have a rainwater harvesting system as well as grid-tied solar power.

We have traveled all over North America, lived for nearly a decade on two other continents, and still feel the Southwest is the best place to call home. We love the variety of landscape, ecology, and climate within a few hour's travel, as well as the Native American influence in this area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

One month in heaven. Loved the setting and the opportunity to enjoy nature and all it holds. Such a great place and all your homey touches made our vacation such a dream.

Place was awesome!!!

Clean and modern style cabin living. Hiking nearby and the town was only like 10 minutes away.

We brought our two boys and made some great memories.

A Spectacular Retreat !!

  • 5 of 5

The Roost is a perfect get away. It is secluded and in such a beautiful location with a pristine view of the mountains. It is very accessible to all the popular sites one chooses to visit. It was very comfortable and super clean. Had all the comforts of home. Suzanne and Faith thank you for being such great stewards of the land. We look forward to returning for another visit. This rental is highly recommended.

Well kept property

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two young children and I stayed here for a weekend. It was the perfect get away. It's well kept, clean, and everything you need is provided. When we arrived there was a book with detailed instructions on where everything is, how it all works, and do's and don'ts. The property has a beautiful backdrop, and scincic views from every window. It's in a beautiful neighborhood, but still very secluded and private. We played right outside the Rroost with the kids in the snow, cooked food and watched the Super Bowl. My family and I loved it, and we definitely plan on booking again soon.

Absolutely Loved the Roost!

  • 5 of 5

This rental is nothing short of amazing! We stayed over the long holiday weekend to go skiing at Snowbowl. This will be our new home away from home in Flagstaff!

The views are spectacular and the house is very well equipped and maintained. I loved being able to be at a "home" instead of a hotel. My two girls loved the bunk bed and making a huge snowman.

I would highly recommend. Suzanne does a fantastic making you feel welcome but still giving you plenty of privacy.
