Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing your home away from home. Your house was just lovely, very clean and had everything we needed. This house is warm and cozy for a winter get away, with beautiful views of the river. We enjoyed dinner at Jean Bonnets as you suggested and it was really wonderful too! We look forward to returning soon!

Great Stay at the River

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at the River House! The house is clean and comfortable. So much to do – enjoyed sitting by the river, the covered bridge driving tour (seeing the countryside and small towns is just as enjoyable as the bridges), grilling in the evenings (the screened-in porch keeps those pesky bugs away) and making s’mores by the fire pit. The dogs thoroughly enjoyed the fenced in yard and met lots of new canine friends. Due to recent storms, the river was really muddy and not good for fishing. But… we went to Shawnee State Park nearby. It has great trails for hiking with the pups and a stocked lake (and it’s free!).

The owners are awesome! Always quick to answer questions. Will definitely be going back.

Relaxing and dog friendly

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the river house. The fenced in yard was especially wonderful for the dog. The house itself is clean and fully equipped and comfortable. We used the deck for grilling and star gazing (great for the telescope!) and the screened in porch for meals and playing games. The area is very relaxing, and the river was so much fun for our girls and the dog. We made so many great memories there. Thank you!

Views from the porch.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the location of the River House. We sat on the screened porch first thing in the morning and well into the evening, all our meals were eaten there. We enjoyed the many places to walk with our lab Ringo on the road running along the river and the trail on the old railway bed. The river itself was perfect to wade in with the dog and was a peaceful space to sit. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. The town of Bedford was a great place to explore, eat and shop. It was a wonderful way to start our vacation.

Super Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying here. It's hard to be stressed when you have the soothing sounds of the river so close. Great screened in porch, comfy beds, and it's really easy to get to (2 hours from NoVa). The kitchen had all the necessities to cook your own four-course meals. I would recommend driving 15 minutes away to Gravity Hill and Shawnee Park if you want to spend some time outside of the cabin.
