About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 4 adults with kids beds for small children).

Just 30 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport where the jungle meets the ocean on a beautiful gently sloping hillside, and only 75 yards from the ocean sits Casa Mikayla, a tropical paradise in wonderful, sunny Sayulita! Fully-furnished home features ocean and jungle views from every room, incredible gardens, gated entry with a private ocean view pool all on one-plus acre of private land! Both bedrooms suites have king size beds (and ocean views) and one has a panoramic ocean view.

We live right next door to the estate to assure that your vacation will be all you expect it to be. All rooms are furnished with the finest amenities such as Ralph Lauren towels, 250+ thread count all cotton sheets (only natural fiber products are used throughout), down and other quality pillows, hand woven Guatemalan fabrics for all curtains and pillow covers, our personal art collection from travels throughout Mexico/Guatemala, furnishings that will allow you all the comforts you need while enjoying our incredible villa. Our kitchens are fully stocked with as many small appliances, frying pans, wine glasses, coffee cups, plates, bowls, utensils, etc. as you have in your own homes. Everything in the kitchen is in abundance. All the kitchenware is matching Fiestaware, matching high quality flat ware, hand loomed Guatemalan and Mexican all cotton napkins, everything the best!

Remember many villas discourage children, but we cater to kids, we have (2) cribs and (2) highchairs, so no need to rent them. Our kiddie pool attaches to the main pool connected by a cascading waterfall. The kids love it, the parents love it even more! We have babysitting services available from our Mexican family of over 14 years, who are really part of our family. Our driver has multiple childseats for the trip from the airport.

The villa is located at 'Villas Rana Verde' Sayulita's premiere estate property, we are one of the largest pieces of estate property in Sayulita. The beach across the street is one of the most pristine, sandy, private beaches with the cleanest water in Sayulita. The beach is just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone from our front gate. It is not unusual to be the only person on the beach for 1/4 mile in each direction. There is great surf fishing on the beach right across the street from the estate. The fisherman regularly catch snook, sea bass, grouper and many other varieties. It is a nesting grounds for Leatherback turtles who can be seen in the early morning hours and late evenings during summer months laying their eggs or hiding the nests before their return to the ocean.

We are located about 1/2 mile from the village in the exclusive north beach area of private villas away from the night noise of the village with its roosters (why do they have to start crowing at 2:30AM?), cantinas, and Saturday night disco, and all night drum circles. Your quiet night of sleep is assured. We are directly across from the pristine, private, sandy beach you have ever seen, just a 2 minute walk from our front gate on a cobblestone path. The short 10 minute walk to town can be along the beach or a quiet, low traffic paved road.

We provide everything you need for a luxurious and relaxing stay. Hair dryers in every bathroom, organic fruit from the estate for your table, daily maid and pool service, optional cook, beach towels (chairs and umbrellas too), fresh flowers, the best of everything, all in the very private setting. Our villas can not be seen by each other or by the surrounding villas. Our driver can pick you up at the airport in an air conditioned Suburban with cold drinks of your choice. If you are looking for a very private getaway without even leaving the estate, our cook can prepare the best Mexican meals. She brings her masa dough for tortillas, along with her wooden press (many guests enjoy pitching in and making their own tortillas, it is lots of fun with Lucia), and she prepares salsa, guacamole, rice, beans, and 2 entrees with your choice of chile rellenos, shrimp, fish, chicken, pork or beef. Most guests tell me this is one of the highlights of their trip.

Our lovely estate is home to the most beautiful birds that you are likely to witness outside the most complete aviary of exotic, tropical, colorful birds. We have identified over 100 varieties of these magnificent creatures. There is an even larger abundance if you venture into the nearby jungle.

The best tropical garden in Sayulita is at your doorstep all within the private, gated compound. We have so many varieties of palms, sweet smelling exotic flowers, flowering trees, organic fruit for your table, and much more for your enjoyment. If you love to garden, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live your dream in a tropical paradise. Meander through our many cobblestone pathways into a tropical botanical paradise seldom seen on private grounds.

We have the best home, pool, garden, location, view and amenities in Sayulita! We are, arguably, the best estate property in Sayulita. No matter how beautiful you imagine our estate to be, when you get there it is twice as beautiful

Experience Mexico at its best. Outside Magazine calls Sayulita 'the best place to hang a hammock.' Check out why AARP magazine article calls Sayulita one of the best places in the world to retire. Good Morning America called Sayulita one of the best places to take a family vacation. The New York Times, San Jose Mercury, LA Times and many more have all written fantastic articles on Sayulita. You will not experience a more beautiful, untouched paradise anywhere!

Our other homes Casa Pajaro and Casa Rana Verde are also located on the estate. When rented together we can provide you with 7 bedrooms, 10 baths, 3 kitchens, 4 pools with built in beds for 17 people. They make a fantastic venue for a wedding celebration, extended family or multi family vacation, holistic retreat or vacation camp!

About Barry and Connie Dumont

Barry & Connie Dumont moved here from Santa Cruz, CA in 2003. They had been Realtors there for the previous 20 years. They have four children, one of whom moved to Sayulita with them and owns and operates Galeria Gypsy in the village of Sayulita. They have always had a keen interest in Mexico and south, and were frequent visitors during the 70s and 80s to Mexico, Guatemala and Columbia. Once the four children had grown, they renewed their love affair with Mexico and made the move to Mexico full time in 2003. They live next door to the villas. They travel to the interior of Mexico and as buyers for their daughter's store several times a year, and when in Sayulita are surfing and enjoying the fantastic laid back lifestyle.

Barry and Connie Dumont purchased this villa in 2003

Why Barry and Connie Dumont chose Sayulita

My wife and I 1st came to Sayulita in 1995. We immediately loved the wonderful ambiance, weather, ocean, beaches and great people. We were living in Santa Cruz, CA at the time, which we love for many of the same reasons. As the years went by we were spending more time each year in Sayulita. We met the previous owners of the property and thought what an amazing piece of property it was and never dreamed that we would one day own it. We thought it had the perfect combination of great ocean views, easy beach access, privacy and great location. After we bought the estate, we moved here full time in 2003 and have never regretted a day. We live next door to the villas full time, so we are here to be sure that your vacation is all that you expect it to be. There is a reason why everyone is talking about Sayulita, but that reason is actually many reasons. It is just a fantastic place to live or visit! Come and visit us and discover why so many of our guests describe our villas in superlative terms. We make it great for you!

What makes this villa unique

Our estate is a fantastic venue for any size group of up to 15-20 people, depending on whether there are families, couples or singles. All 3 villas have their own private pool. Nothing is shared between the villas except the parking area and gated entry. Each villa has its own pool, kitchen, gardens, etc. Our full acre plus property is landscaped with the finest garden in Sayulita. Due to the extensive 15 year garden and other landscaping, there is total privacy everywhere. There is maid & pool service six days a week. There is a fantastic cook that prepares, serves and cleans up after an 8 plate meal for 120 pesos/adult plus the cost of the food. We use only the finest for your bedding, cooking, bathing, etc, so that when you come here, the comforts are much like what you are accustomed to at home. Our driver will pick you up the airport, insuring your comfort and safety to and from the villas. Our ocean views are unsurpassed in Sayulita. It is just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone to the sandy, pristine beach from our front gate, and only a 10 minute walk to the village of Sayulita by sandy beach or quiet paved road. We live next door to insure that your needs are fulfilled. We care about your stay and want to make the best it can be!

The reminiscing doesn't stop

  • 5 of 5

2490 characters are probably not enough to write out in this review how grateful we are for Villas Rana Verde and the whole incredible crew!

My husband and I decided to get married in Sayulita and this was the place we were lucky enough to host our families and merge them into one.

Everything about this place is exactly what you wish it to be. From tiny aesthetic details that feed your Mexican craving to the amazing hands of Lucia and her crew, so much of it all in its individual parts and as a collective whole were reasons to feel grateful and overjoyed for our time spent here.

We spent 6 amazing days with our closest family and friends and were lucky enough to eat Lucias' breakfasts each morning, and not only that but those amazing women prepared the whole dinner and desserts the night of our wedding... the reminiscing doesn't stop.

We spent a 1/3 of the price of what the average American wedding costs, which consisted of 6 days, 5 nights, breakfast every morning, clean rooms, clean relaxing pools, ocean view, wedding, late night hanging out under the main Palapa, beautiful bird calling, iguanas, colors, beautiful smells, amazing family working with Barry and Connie, hot showers, prompt communication... I can keep going.

Barry, Connie, and the rest of the amazing crew, thank you once again for everything. We are beyond blessed and grateful for our stay at Villas Rana Verde.

Quiet location with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at Casa Makayla for 8 days and had a positive experience. Barry, the owner, is very responsive and helped connect us with local services which we found helpful. One of his contacts, Angel, provided reliable transportation to/from the airport as well.

The two master suites are large enough to be comfortable and decorated nicely with local touches. There are ocean views from every room on the property, the sunsets from the upper level suite are amazing. The pool was great late afternoon to cool off and refresh.

The beach, a 5 minute walk, is very quiet and clean. If you want a busier area, then you can head into town for surfing, local shops and restaurants. We do recommend a golf cart as town is about a 5 minute drive or a 15-20 minute walk one way.

Our teenage daughter speaks Spanish conversationally, unlike her parents, and we found that helpful in Sayulita in general. The town itself if much more of a local feel so if you want a more authentic trip, this is the spot; there are no big hotels or luxury resorts.

We tried several restaurants and found them generally to all be very good - especially liked Medusa, Al Bacaro and Café Esperanza. And, if you are traveling from the US, your dollar will go far right now. Depending on how much you drink, we are light drinkers, meals for 4 out ranged from $25 to $50 for all of us.

Our family surfed, boogie boarded, explored the town and went scuba diving which are all nearby. Oceana handled our scuba trip and we would recommend them - they also do snorkeling trips.

Overall, good experience and you will find Barry easy to work. He also lives next to the property unlike many who have rental agencies.

Quite Retreat

  • 5 of 5

First time to Sayulita. Have spent many VRBO rental vacations in the Caribbean. This home was extremely clean. Especially the kitchen which I have found rare in other rentals. Everything worked. A/C, stove, fridge.

The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. Ahain a miss or hit with villas. Very nice, warm and clean pool. Just wish it had a hot tub. Property owner Berry very quick with email correspondence. Depentable and honest.

Great housekeeping and Angel the driver to get you safely and quickly to and from the Villa. The home cooked Mexican meal on our arrival night was perfect.

Will return

Half Moon Bay, CA

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I found we had 5 days free and wanted a little escape from the daily grind. It was also an anniversary so I tried to make it a bit special. I found that a non-stop 3.5 hour flight could get us down to Puerto Vallarta. Barry's property stood out as I did my research on the area. It was so easy...pop down to PV, get picked up at the airport by Barry's driver Angel, stop at the market for supplies and into a tropical paradise. Leave Monday, back Friday after a leisurely Friday morning at the beach in front of the house. I kept wondering how someone had been able to design such private, charming, comfortable casitas. You felt totally relaxed and in another world. First class but not pretentious...just lovely. And great surfing and food in Sayulita. I waited a month to write this but the warm feeling has not faded. Congratulations and thanks to the Dumonts for creating a hospitable and beautiful spot for us all!

We are coming back!

  • 5 of 5

I spent the last ten days at this house with my wife and two of our four children. You cannot tell how good this place is from the website. Every one of our expectations was met or exceeded. The accommodations are great. The linens and towels are of the quality we would have at our own home. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked great meals there - except for the first night's which was prepared by Lucia, the housekeeper, and was by far our best meal of our stay (this coming from a non Mexican cuisine fan; although I may be a convert now!). The staff is superb, attentive and courteous. Barry, the owner followed up with us periodically to make sure we were comfortable and did not need anything. Having staff make our beds, clean our bathrooms and kitchen daily made us feel like being at a hotel, but with the privacy of a house. They even clean the patios and pool. We used the pool every morning and upon returning from the beach in the evenings. The views from our balcony were breathtaking! This was our second visit to Sayulita and the first to this particular house (our favorite now). We rented a golf cart to move about town but walked to the center of town from the house many times - it is a short and pleasant 10 minute walk. The nearby beach is within a one or two minute walk. We definitely recommend this house to anyone traveling to Sayulita. We will have to come back soon to even-out with our other two children! - FB

Tropical paradise

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed a week at Casa Mikayla. The property is gorgeous with lush gardens and cobblestone drive and walkways. The villa staff are friendly and helpful and the house cook prepared a fine meal our first night. Because the villa is on a hill, the views are fantastic with the ocean on one side and lush tropical hills on the other. The villa is decorated with wonderful local folk art. Each wall of the villa's main rooms are filled with beautiful Mexican art. It is only a few minutes walk to a long stretch of white sandy beach and often there were only a handful of people there. It is only a 15 minute walk into town where there are many good restaurants and shops to go to. We rented a golf cart and would travel all around the small town of Sayulita taking in the sites and then shopping or eating great food. We realize that on our next stay in one of Barry's villas will have to be for a longer period of time because we had such a wonderfully fun and relaxing vacation.
