About Joan Brett

I have lived in Boulder for 45 years and am still passionate about it. My partner, Ed, is a newbie - moved here 5 years ago to "retire - ski, ride bikes" from a lifetime in Cleveland, OH. We are both semi-retired, and have decided to spend 4-6 months a year in Latin America, living and learning Spanish in Antigua, Guatemala and traveling through South America. So, we are happy to share our lovely home with you. You will be entranced with the views and the proximity to downtown, Chautauqua and the University of Colorado.

Joan Brett purchased this house in 1978

Why Joan Brett chose Boulder

I have lived in this house since 1988 when I moved in with my second husband Bob. Bob passed away in 2012 and I now live here with my partner, Edward. It has a fabulous location -- walking distance from the University, the downtown, and the Chautauqua Park area. It is on a quiet tiny street but so close to all the attractions which make Boulder an internationally famous city to visit. I have worked hard to update and remodel every room of the house, the large east facing deck, and the small gem of a yard. It is airy, light, comfortable and lovely.

What makes this house unique

This is a wonderful house for entertaining, any season. It has over 85 windows and feels like an inside/outside house. If you sit on the deck at sunrise or sunset, listen to the birds, watch the clouds, you will understand why we love our home. When people walk in the front door for the first time, the response is always "Wow - incredible views - what a beautiful house". The floor plan is open, and much of life in the house centers in the large chef's kitchen and eating area.

Lovely view close in to Boulder

  • 5 of 5

We loved waking up to the most gorgeous sunrise every day and went to bed each night looking out at the twinkling lights of downtown Boulder. A great close in location allowed us to be downtown in 5 minutes for dinner. We would love to return when the landscape turns green and bring our 2 children with us.

Wonderful home close to everything feels away from it all

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this beautiful well-appointed home for graduation week. Though the home would have been perfect for entertaining on the comfortable spacious deck, the weather did not cooperate. Undaunted, we entertained our family (18 of us) around the beautiful dining table. The kitchen was a cook and hostess' dream and dinner was enjoyed by all. We slept well on the comfortable mattress and enjoyed waking every morning to the beautiful sunrise (the house takes advantage of every view). The pullout couch mattresses, according to my adult children, were not the most comfortable, but there were really no complaints. We loved the convenience to hiking and town. We only wished that we could have stayed longer!

Boulder has so many wonderful attractions.

My house is close to downtown with its famous Pearl Street pedestrian mall. Boulder has been named the 'foodiest' town in the U.S. for several years. Some of my favorites include Riff's Urban Fare, River and Wood, Arugula, The Kitchen, and Frasca. You can also walk to Chautauqua which has concerts, a dining hall, gorgeous views and some of the best hiking and climbing in Colorado. Downtown, you can meander or bike along the Boulder Creek path for miles through the heart of town to more rural areas east of town.
