Our apartment, "Morning on the Atlantic", is a fully furnished charming one bedroom apartment located on quiet, residential, tree lined Morning Street in Portland, Maine. Owner occupied three unit home. The third Floor furnished apartment overlooks Casco Bay and is within walking distance of the East End Beach, island ferries, the Old Port, restaurants, theater and Eastern Promenade biking trails. Eat in kitchen, gas cooking stove, gas fireplace in living room. Air conditioner, Internet/WiFi, TV, W/D, 2 bikes. Separate entrance to apartment. No pets, no smoking. Arrival 3 p.m. Departure 11 a.m.

About John Wuesthoff

John and Betty are former Peace Corps Volunteers. He is now a semi-retired attorney maintaining a professional home office in their home and she, a past director of Maine's Refugee Resettlement Program, is his part time secretary and bookkeeper when not caring for 2 grandchildren living across the bay in Falmouth, or attending their soccer games.

Periodically John travels to monitor elections being 'seconded' by the U. S. Dept. of State, to former Yugoslavia and the former Soviet Union. They are both active volunteers in an organization dedicated to the historic preservation and protection of the environmental integrity of the Eastern Promenade and long time welcomers of domestic and international visitors.

We have lived in Maine for several decades and are fortunate to have purchased this large, 3 unit post colonial home in the 1990's.

What makes this apartment unique

Within walking distance are good restaurants, both on and off 'the hill'. A 15 minute walk to the waterfront will take you past inviting coffee shops, a bakery, or two, wine and grocery shops, the ferry to the Casco Bay Islands, the Harbor Fish Market, Cabot Cheese shop and a barber shop. An evenings entertainment is often available at Good Theater with contemporary works, a 10 minute walk up Morning to Congress Street. Sea kayaking rentals are found near the East End Beach, a 10 minute walk.

Spacious/clean/convenient/quiet

This garret apartment was really roomy and in a great location in the city. Lots of opportunities to hike and walk nearby and beautiful views of the bay. Landlord very helpful and friendly, gave us great tips for local restaurants.

Great hosts, nice location, very nice place

Nice old house located just off the point on a hill overlooking the bay. Walking path will take you to the Old Port district and downtown in about 20 minutes or a 5-minute drive. Convenient to ferry lines and restaurants as well. Hosts are very nice and helpful. Place is spotless, roomy and well-maintained. Only caveat would be it is up three flights of stairs so if you have difficulty climbing steps this might not be for you.

The perfect stay in Portland

First, let me say that we stayed at many, many VRBO properties over the past ten years. This was one of our very best experiences.

Portland is an amazing destination, which didn't hurt. But the personal, caring attitude of John and Betty about us as their guests was incredible.

Their darling apartment -- the third floor of their home -- was exactly what you need as a couple visiting Portland. The location on the East End is wonderful. A dedicated parking spot is provided. This beautifully updated and yet charmingly historic property is the perfect base of operations for a Portland and MidCoast adventure.

John and Betty were so helpful, but not at all intrusive.

If you're considering a VRBO in Portland, by all means, pick this one!

Lovely.

The apartment is just as described, a lovely, well maintained 3 room apartment. The location is perfect for walking along the eastern promenade as well as a short walk into downtown Portland. The owner is very personable and friendly. Could not have asked for anything more. I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely place - great view

Lovely apartment! Perfect size for us. So glad it has A/C units for the "heat wave" we got. Location is great. Amazing views. The walk to Commercial St. and the wharfs is downhill. John was such a nice gentleman. He had great recommendations for restaurants and things to do. We definitely want to come back!

We spent memoial day weekend at John and Betty's and I can't put into words how much we loved it! John was MORE than accommodating as we arrived much later than we expected. He greeted us, helped us with our bags and gave us a quick overview of the area. The apartment was spacious, exactly as pictures and very clean. It was a little chilly weekend so we were able to use the adorable fireplace - so cozy! Location: excellent. Across the street is a walking path along the water that takes you to the heart of Portland. About a ten minute walk. We went to Peaks Island and were able to use the two bikes John has. They were very nice bikes! Portland is an incredibly walkable city with more food and drink options than you could imagine. In poor weather, our uber ride back was only $5. Overall, book this place. It was everything we had hoped for and was part of the many reasons we fell in love with Portland.
