Our apartment, "Morning on the Atlantic", is a fully furnished charming one bedroom apartment located on quiet, residential, tree lined Morning Street in Portland, Maine. Owner occupied three unit home. The third Floor furnished apartment overlooks Casco Bay and is within walking distance of the East End Beach, island ferries, the Old Port, restaurants, theater and Eastern Promenade biking trails. Eat in kitchen, gas cooking stove, gas fireplace in living room. Air conditioner, Internet/WiFi, TV, W/D, 2 bikes. Separate entrance to apartment. No pets, no smoking. Arrival 3 p.m. Departure 11 a.m.

About John Wuesthoff

John and Betty are former Peace Corps Volunteers. He is now a semi-retired attorney maintaining a professional home office in their home and she, a past director of Maine's Refugee Resettlement Program, is his part time secretary and bookkeeper when not caring for 2 grandchildren living across the bay in Falmouth, or attending their soccer games.

Periodically John travels to monitor elections being 'seconded' by the U. S. Dept. of State, to former Yugoslavia and the former Soviet Union. They are both active volunteers in an organization dedicated to the historic preservation and protection of the environmental integrity of the Eastern Promenade and long time welcomers of domestic and international visitors.

We have lived in Maine for several decades and are fortunate to have purchased this large, 3 unit post colonial home in the 1990's.

What makes this apartment unique

Within walking distance are good restaurants, both on and off 'the hill'. A 15 minute walk to the waterfront will take you past inviting coffee shops, a bakery, or two, wine and grocery shops, the ferry to the Casco Bay Islands, the Harbor Fish Market, Cabot Cheese shop and a barber shop. An evenings entertainment is often available at Good Theater with contemporary works, a 10 minute walk up Morning to Congress Street. Sea kayaking rentals are found near the East End Beach, a 10 minute walk.

Perfect all around

This gem was clean, modern, warm, and in a great location in Portland's Munjoy Hill area. The host was helpful and friendly, but not intrusive. Lovely views from both bedroom and kitchen. Wood floors add to the warm feel of the apartment.

Wonderful getaway steps from the Old Port!

We had a fantastic week in the apartment. It is exactly as pictured - a delightful space steps from the Promenade and wonderful restaurants in Munjoy Hill. We were minutes from the Old Port on a very quiet street. John and Betty are welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. They gave us several great suggestions for food and activities and were always reachable with questions. It was a lovely romantic getaway and we'd definitely recommend it!

Quaint Perfection and Great Location!

We traveled to Maine for our baby moon and made Portland our home base. We could not be more pleased with our stay in this perfect apartment. It was a great location for starters--an easy drive (or walk for those not pregnant) to the harbor and Old Port District, and easily walkable to the great restaurants of Munjoy Hill (we tried several). It was also nice to have the promenade and bay right across the street. The apartment itself if completely comfy and cozy, well-decorated with great views of the bay from the large kitchen window and the bedroom. The neighborhood was very quiet--we slept soundly. Everything worked and was easy to operate, from the bathroom to the kitchen appliances to the heating. We also appreciated the designated parking spot.

John greeted us on arrival and helped with our luggage. He then spent time telling us about the area and giving us great activity and restaurant ideas. We didn't use the bikes, but love that they were offered.

Yes, the apartment is on the third floor, but if a 7-month pregnant lady didn't have trouble, I expect most won't.

All in all, it was a relaxing place to stay, but also a real "slice of life" of Portland. We highly recommend!

Perfect Apartment

We feel very lucky to have found this place for our visit to Portland. It's in a quiet neighborhood with charming Victorian houses and views of Casco Bay. We were within walking distance of everything we wanted to do while in Portland. It was only a 10 minute walk to the restaurants and Markets in Munjoy Hill. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning walks in search of coffee and pastries. The apartment was in great shape, updated, and tastefully designed while still still maintaining its historical character. The bed was firm and very comfortable. We slept soundly every night. The stairs were no issue, but might be a concern for anyone in poor shape. John and Betty were gracious hosts and provided us suggestions on things to do. For our next visit, we would definitely want to stay here again as opposed to a hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the 'local' experience.

Really nice apartment for a couple!

This apartment was exactly as described! Clean, spacious and very comfortable. Parking was easy, the area was very pretty and quiet. Sorry we didn't get to meet John, but we were delighted to meet Betty who met us upon arrival and offered to help us carry our things up the stairs. We stayed three nights, and would absolutely stay here again if we get back to Portland. The apartment has a private entrance, which enters onto the stairway up two flights at the side of a lovely old house where the owners live. It all looks loved and well-cared-for!

The location was so good, we pointed it out to people we met on a whale watching trip and they asked for the VRBO app. That's all I have to say. Thank you, John. I'm sorry we didn't have the chance to meet.
