About John Wuesthoff

John and Betty are former Peace Corps Volunteers. He is now a retired attorney maintaining a professional home office in their home and she, a past director of Maine's Refugee Resettlement Program, is his part time secretary and bookkeeper when not caring for 2 grandchildren living across the bay in Falmouth, or attending their soccer games.

Periodically John travels to monitor elections being 'seconded' by the U. S. Dept. of State, to former Yugoslavia and the former Soviet Union. They are both active volunteers in an organization dedicated to the historic preservation and protection of the environmental integrity of the Eastern Promenade and long time welcomers of domestic and international visitors.

John Wuesthoff purchased this apartment in 1999

Why John Wuesthoff chose East End

We have lived in Maine for several decades and are fortunate to have purchased this large, 3 unit post colonial home in the 1990's.

What makes this apartment unique

Within walking distance are good restaurants, both on and off 'the hill'. A 15 minute walk to the waterfront will take you past inviting coffee shops, a bakery, or two, wine and grocery shops, the ferry to the Casco Bay Islands, the Harbor Fish Market, Cabot Cheese shop and a barber shop. An evenings entertainment is often available at Good Theater with contemporary works, a 10 minute walk up Morning to Congress Street. Sea kayaking rentals are found near the East End Beach, a 10 minute walk.

wonderful apartment, great location, terrific homeowner

  • 5 of 5

was easy to book, great communication from John, also great info when we arrived. The unit was clean and very comfortable, loved the views from the dining room and fire escape. it as easy to get around, and we had a lovely time there. There was plenty of info in the apartment and John gave us some great tips- we enjoyed taking the bikes over on the ferry to Peak's Island , and another day got to ride around the Back Bay. He also gave us a coupon to Blackpoint Inn, we went for lunch and did the cliff walk, glad he suggested it as we really enjoyed it. We also went to UFF for a cider tasting, that was really neat. It was handy having the laundry available in the basement. We had some great meals at Blue Spoon and David's, also enjoyed the donuts at Holy Donut.

If one can not be happy in this charming atmosphere then one just can not be happy!

It was just perfect for us to spend our 40th wedding anniversary here. Thank you for sharing this special place. We enjoyed all the beautiful people, the scenery and food that we found in Portland ME.

What a very special place and stay in Portland, Maine

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 4 day stay at this location in Portland. The apartment was lovely, spacious, immaculate and in the best part of Portland. The owners were there to greet us

and to help us settle in. The one problem, for anyone with knee issues, were the stairs up

to the apt. Well worth the climb though.

John and Betty were the perfect hosts giving us ample information on restaurants, museums, hiking and bike trails as well as island cruises, all within walking distance. The accommodations were comfortable and cozy. Recommend highly!

Great location !

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was perfect for our trip. John and Betty were very accommodating. Beautiful location with access to everything Portland ! The 3rd floor location requires some climbing, but if you don't mind a little extra exercise you won't be disappointed.

Charming week near the bay....

  • 5 of 5

Recently stayed at this charming rental and really enjoyed our time there. I echo what everyone has said about the owners - nice people that are just a phone call away if you need anything. This rental has so many fun things within walking distance - great local restaurants, the park/Bay Area and downtown is just a walk away. Very quiet area of town and an apartment that was perfect for the two of us. John has bikes you can use and it was nice biking around as well. This was my first experience ever doing the HomeAway and I honestly couldnt have asked for a better experience. Definitely a must stay place!
