We have been in love with St John since our Honeymoon 28 years ago. Every year I would tell my husband, 'I do not want a Birthday Present, Valentines Hoopla or Christmas Gift, I just want a week alone with you on St John! And that is what we did, through the lean years and the flush years. We would come back to our favorite island, St John!
Having traveled extensively around the World and the Caribbean for business, we would always say, 'it's nice but it is not St John.' When the St John Bug bites you, it becomes a passion!! I really can not pick one thing that makes St John so special for us. We love the National Park, its trails, beaches and fabulous snorkeling! Crystal clear warm water, sand like talcum powder, uncrowded and new sea life to discover each day! We adore the local citizens of the island who have always welcomed us warmly and graciously! There are not many places left in the world where you are greeted everywhere you go with a 'Good Morning' 'Good Afternoon' Have A Wonderful Day'! And tourists are expected to return the greeting or start the greeting before doing business with a person. The slower pace of 'Island Time' is very easy to fall into. 'Limin' (hanging out, usually with a drink) is a way of life! The near perfect year round weather, the temperature only fluctuates 8-10 degrees between Winter and Summer. Wearing Flip Flops year round is a definite added plus! Our fabulous restaurants, from gourmet 5 star restaurants, to our local Caribbean fare sometimes purchased from a truck. Either of these meals could easily be your favorite of the week. I think our favorite part of St John is now that we really live here! Every year when we got off the ferry it felt like we were coming home and now we really are :)
St John Guest Suites purchased this hotel in 2012
We looked at many homes for sale on St John, but I really wanted to build to get the house I really wanted. I wanted to be North Chocolate Hole, with a panoramic ocean view. I did not want to be in a new development which means you might have to put up with building noise for another 10-20 years. I wanted an established neighborhood, like Rock Ridge Road and I wanted to be at the top. And well we are :)
My husband and I just returned from a 6 night stay in the Seaview guest room at St. John guest suites. It was perfect in every way. The room was ideal for 2 people and included everything you could possibly need for your vacation . Many mornings we cooked breakfast in the room and enjoyed the incredible view from our private patio. There was also 2 lounge chairs and a BBQ on our patio.
Just a few steps up is the infinity pool and the outdoor kitchen. All guests of the 4 suites are free to use this but we never saw anyone else while we were out there. It was like our own private pool. The ice maker was a great touch to fill up our cooler before heading to the beach. We even used the washer and dryer a couple of times.
We were also shown the beach chairs and floats which we could keep in our jeep all week. So handy not to have to load and unload every day. The cooler was also ours for the trip.
Beth and her husband were. It on the Island while we were there but they left us in excellent hands with Chris and his wife Jen. There was even a welcome basket in the room with snacks and a bottle of rum. The bathroom came with soap, shampoo and body wash, another nice touch we appreciated.
Everything about St John Guest suites was perfect , from the room to the view to the location to the property. We are already making plans to go back.
Look no further, this place FAR exceeded our expectations. We went on the off season so the price was very reasonable. Everything was clean, we were given beach chairs, coolers, floats, a bottle of rum, food, etc with the room. We stayed in the Lily Suite and the Pool House Suite. The Pool house suite has a ridiculous view (1/3 of room is glass), nice kitchen ( with blender, plates, etc), you are on the level with an outdoor grill area and basically had a private pool. Its 10 mins from cruz bay so its very quiet and secluded, we were among wild iguanas, hermit crabs, etc. We barely ran into the other guests...there is an outdoor stone shower for rinsing off, parking, I can go on all day. The owners were extremely friendly, were never bothering us and we had their numbers in case we needed anything. We were there a week then stayed at Lavender hill suites (outdated place)...dont bother staying anywhere else, if you can book your whole trip here I guarantee you won't be disappointed. This is the only way to truly experience St John.
I chose St. John Guest Suites over other accomodations because it was close enough to Cruz Bay for shopping and restaurants, yet offered the privacy and be amongst nature that we longed for our trip. The nightly rate was also a factor! The beautiful room with a small kitchenette and free use of beach equipment was well worth the cost. In fact, I have a friend who stayed at a more expensive villa and I thought our accomodations was better!
We stayed at Pool House for 8 nights in May. I was hesitant booking this room because I was afraid it would get too much traffic being by the pool and we wouldn't have much privacy. Except for one day when the weather was not sunny, no one was at the pool! In fact for 7 days we didn't see any of the guests unless by happenstance they were getting into their cars when we were, too.
The Pool House is situated in such a way if there were others at the pool, they cannot look into our room. Well, maybe they can peek a few inches if they were at the tail end of the pool, but I was able to partially close the left most curtain for complete privacy. There were three other HUGE windows so the room remained bright and light.
The owner Beth is very communicative. Even though she was in Maine during our St. John visit, she checked in with me before, during and after to make sure everything was okay. Bruce met us at the ferry, took us to get our car lease, and drove us to make sure we can get to the suites. Beth's daughter, Katy, was at the premises during the day and gladly answered questions we had.
It was such a wonderful experience. I highly recommend it. Thank you, Beth, for making our St. John trip a memorable, worry-free one!
I feel like I could just re-write Meghan M.'s review & it would be a spot-on accurate review for my husband & I as well! From the very beginning, Beth was such a wonderful host. I was a bit nervous about driving on St. John & she assured me by the end of day 1, we'd be pros...and she was right. :) She met us at the ferry to ensure we got our jeep OK & found the suites w/out problem. She also gave us a list of recommended restaurants which we referenced quite a bit - and each recommendation ended up being excellent! We also got massages by the pool by a masseuse she recommended & they were AWESOME! The place looked just like the photos & it had lots of conveniences beach chairs, different sizes/types of coolers & beach towels. Great experience!
My husband and I stayed in the Pool House Suite during our recent (and first) visit to St. John and couldn't have been happier! From the moment I contacted Beth inquiring about the villa she was quick to reply and remained prompt in responding to any questions we had while planning our trip. Jim met us at our Jeep rental agency the day of our arrival to escort us to the property which was a huge stress reliever after a full day of travel and arriving in a new place. The villa itself was absolutely beautiful and perfectly accommodated our needs. We loved having a kitchenette on suite which allowed us the flexibility to eat-in or pack food for our often full day beach outings. The villas really have all of the necessities easily available for guests including coolers, beach chairs, floats, and beach towels. Prior to our arrival Beth had emailed us a list of suggestions for restaurants and 'things to do' which we referenced quite a bit during our stay. Both Jim and Beth were great about making themselves available to us for anything we needed during our stay while still allowing us our privacy. Overall we had an amazing trip, we loved the comfort and beauty of the villa and we definitely would (and plan to) return!
The pool suite is everything it looks to be in the pictures. It was such a nice place to come home to as relax at the end of our day. Jim met us at the barge which was SO helpful, especially after a long day of traveling and getting lost, and Beth there to show us around.Loved having the welcome basket waiting for us.Beautiful view, very peaceful. Though I believe all other suites were occupied during our stay, we never felt like it was crowded. This is a beautiful place to stay and an awesome location so close to Cruz bay!
Our Property Extends From The End Of Rock Ridge Road (No Access) to Gift Hill Road (Where We Have Access), Fabulous Panoramic Ocean Views, 15 minutes to North Shore Beaches, 1/2 mile to South Shore Beaches. One mile into Cruz Bay. Cab access easy if you do not feel like driving to town or back. We have a list of cabs that will pick you up and bring you back home.
