Couples refuge, 1200 sq ft home: 1 bedroom, 2 bath, dining & living room, 2+acre
Unlike a lot of the properties in Joshua Tree, the streets are paved all the way to the entrance. 'Desert Sky Compound' is an Artist's Haven and Awesome Couples Refuge. Spacious 1200 square foot home - high ceilings, an open floor plan, 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, 2 rear patio areas plus a front porch for enjoying the view or evening breeze. This unique custom built home is located on 2.3 acres with local wildlife, Joshua Trees, landscaped walkways and dozens of unique types of cactus blooming throughout the year. The rental rate includes the cleaning fee & all amenities listed. (One night rentals are available at higher rate.)
Full kitchen with 4 burner stove, oven, full size refrigerator, toaster, dishes, bowls, pots, pans and all utensils. (Olive oil, coffee maker including coffee & filters, teas, sugar, salt & pepper provided.)
100% Solar power (yet also on the “grid” for constant power), central heating, air conditioning, wood burning stove, ceiling fans. WiFi and movie DVD's and music CD's with monitor for your viewing or listening pleasure. Games, cards, backgammon. (No cable television, no phone.)
From our property atop a hill you get beautiful night village views as well as of the Southeastern Mojave Desert mountains. Two sides of the property are walled so you really feel like you are in your own private sanctuary with rabbits, quails and road runners who frequent the grounds – as well as doves, chipmunks, ground squirrels, wren, lizards, humming birds. Once the sun goes down, the property is visited by bats, occasional bobcats and owls. You will be amazed at the clear and vibrant starry skies – the milky way is visible here along with all the other constellations.
Call it a retreat, an awesome couples refuge, sanctuary, Artist's haven, oasis, getaway or hideaway – whatever word you choose will describe this beautiful vacation rental. (A second home, owner occupied, adjoins the vacation home by a soundproofed cement wall, and a 6 foot block and fence privacy wall separates the vacation home backyard, all of the guests have positively commented on the great privacy, especially with 2.3 acres.)

We're 5.6 miles from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, 1234 square miles, with groves of Joshua Trees, incredible gigantic boulders and some of the best rock climbing in the world. If you don't feel like driving, then a minutes walk up the street (900 yards) is where you'll find a trailhead (Wildlife Habitat Restoration area) to wander - climbable rocky hills, 360 degree views of Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, 29 Palms and Joshua Tree National Park.

About 2 miles from our Getaway is “Downtown” Joshua Tree which has art galleries, a yoga studio, adventure & hiking outfitter stores, a bakery, gift shops, many restaurants including great burgers and great vegan fare, even a (remarkably good) pizza parlor as well as other restaurants including Thai, a saloon and home style coffee shop. A National Park Visitors Center is located right off the main drag, so you can park there and check out the shops before you head to our backyard, Joshua Tree National Park.
Just about 40 minutes away is Palm Springs! If you do venture to Palm Springs for the day then consider going to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Air museum, The Living Desert or VillageFest (Thursday nights).

About Pam and John
Owners John and Pam both work in the Entertainment industry - Pam in television, John in features although they are now both semi-retired.
Pam and John purchased this House in 2010
Why Pam and John chose Joshua Tree
We love the desert and the fresh, clean air and natural surroundings and wildlife. Best of all - the lack of city crowds and traffic! Joshua Tree is really magical. We take pride in our property and are responsive to any of our renters needs. Since we are local, we deal with our guests directly – from key exchanges, to cleaning, to repairs, and anything in between.
What makes this House unique
This vacation home was custom built with extra thick walls, has passive solar features, high ceilings and is in a quiet and secluded part of town. We love being able to walk 10 minutes to hike or just sit on the patio and watch the abundant wildlife. And because our location is a higher up the street, we even have a view of the city lights.

A home away from home.
The pictures of this home, as beautiful as they are, do not do it justice. From the moment we crossed the threshold we felt we were in our home.
It was spotless clean and welcomed us with the kind of details you don't normally find in a vacation retreat. From the art on the walls, the wonderful books on the shelves, to the comfortable furniture, you are drawn into an atmosphere that almost dares you to not relax. And that's before you look out the windows. Walking out onto one of the porches we were met by rabbits bouncing around the stone-lined paths that meander through the many different cactus gardens in the setting sun. Quail and the occasional roadrunner also share these calming surroundings all within the walled compound.
One of the things that impressed me the most was the overwhelming silence. Everything about this beautiful place is designed to unwind and remind you why this kind of getaway is so important to the human condition. After sleeping in one of the best beds I've ever slept in we treated ourselves to coffee on the private patio beyond the bedroom and planned our day as the sun crept along the mountains just beyond our wall.
If you want to hike and take in the desert, there is nearby Joshua Tree National Park and all the beauty it has to offer. One visit will be enough to inspire a return trip. Or if you are a homebody who requires a home away from home to just relax, read and find comfort in the silence, this place is perfect.
Very clean, spacious, beautifully designed and decorated property. Convenient to the National Park and nearby towns.
Our goal was to stay as close as possible to the park for all day hiking in clean, comfortable, private and quiet surroundings. The house was perfect in achieving all these goals and wish our visit could have been longer.
We stayed three nights over Thanksgiving and loved it! The house is spacious, private and tranquil. Everything you need is there. Saw bunnies and quail in the backyard, and amazing skies at night. Great proximity to the park and restaurants. Pam provided great info and details on all the hikes. We would definitely stay here again. (As one other reviewer noted, the kitchen and bathroom countertops are unusually high so if you are under 5’2”, you may need a footstool!)
We had a blast!
The house was immaculate and super comfortable. Very quiet and a perfect location near Joshua Tree National park.
We'll be back!!
Well equipped, very comfortable, private and pretty
We recommend this to anyone. It was lovely, with lots of helpful information about the park and the area. The property is beautifully laid out as well, and the private patio space was very nice. A highlight was our climb with Joshua Tree Adventures, great guide Ethan Peck!
Palm Springs is just 45-55 minutes away where there is live theater, a zoo, one of the world's highest aerial trams, museums, etc..
