Been using home away for 4 years and I've never left a review because I have not had a reason. false advertisement. The pictures are deceiving. We went up for a weekend and were very unhappy with the house. Smelled strong of mold. Everything was dirty, we left it much cleaner than when we arrived. the wifi never worked. The hot water ran out very fast and the bathrooms are rough. I was given the wrong key code to get in. There was not fire wood as we were told. Only reason I didn't give it a one star was because of the price.

Wonderful Escape from Hurricane Matthew

  • 4 of 5

Once we decided to evacuate the Charleston area due to the arrival of hurricane Matthew, we decided that it would be much nicer to stay in a house/cabin in the western North Carolina mountains than in a hotel. We had our two Pomeranians and our two granddaughters with us. The owners of this house were very kind to work with us on such short notice. Once we arrived,The owners did everything possible to make our stay positive. They came to the house in person to help hook up the Internet, and even stopped at a store to bring us some additional towels. The house itself felt like home after a day or so. We loved seeing all the wildlife in the area: deer, turkeys, Chipmunks, and a woodchuck! Our youngest granddaughter kept a count on the deer, and she got up to 65! Most were seen at the local golf course. We enjoyed the local bark park with our pups, and discussed the hurricane with some other evacuees there. All in all, for a last minute adventure,we had a great time!

This house is not what it appears to be as advertised on line. I took my family this past weekend for a mountain get away to snow tube. First of all as we entered the house it smelled of mold. The crawl space is right there as soon as you enter and it had dehumidifiers in there. We had to close the crawl space and cover it with trash bags. The pool table that is advertised is a small one for kids. On line it looks like a regular pool table. The water in the showers is not hot at all. There were no wash cloths, only about 4 towels. Also we felt like we were going to fall through the bathtub. The whole place was run down and out dated and the mold made it a health hazard.

Wonderful Place!

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of four and we travel with our 2 small dogs. We had a great stay at this gem of a home. Our 10 and 13 year old kids loved the game room and the twin beds up in the loft, they enjoyed having their own space to get away to when the rest of the house was too busy. The rooms were spacious and beds were large. We felt right at home in the kitchen, we even baked cinnamon rolls on Saturday morning. The neighborhood is scenic and peaceful, the dogs thoroughly enjoyed their walks. The iron, ironing board, washer and dryer came in very handy! We will definitely plan to visit again with a larger group. Having rented many properties in the past through VRBO, we found this home to be VERY reasonably priced given it's prime location, living space, and all of the accommodations. We've already started planning our next visit!

Good location, but dated/worn & could be cleaner.

  • 2 of 5

We liked the location Near Rec Center, and the owner was easy to work with & responsive, however the property is dated, worn, and not the cleanest (particularly the bathrooms). There were also areas & furniture a bit unstable: Stairs leading up from aux parking on street very sketchy, kitchen table very wobbly, screen door on deck missing, windows were a pain to deal with (No AC, so needed the windows). For what it's worth, I do think this property has potential....if renovated more and/or upgraded.

Great Time!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this cabin and are already making plans to go back next year! As a group of young college alumni who wanted to spend the weekend doing a lot of skiing and reminiscing, we had a great time and this was an ideal location. Not having to worry about towels, dishes, or linens was a huge plus and the owners were extremely helpful and promptly answered my text message with a minor question. We will definitely be back!

During the winter months it is IMPERATIVE that you drive a 4 wheel drive or make sure you have chains on your vehicle. We are a resort town that attracts lots of skiers because of the amount of snow we get each year, and therefore the roads are often snow covered. If you need transportation to and from the ski resort that is an option we offer at an additional fee.
