About Lana Richardson

My husband and I met 25 years ago in a beautiful, red, 2 story cottage in South Lake Tahoe, very similar to our vacation home. I had flown to Tahoe to attend a friend's birthday and he was one of her roommates. We fell in love that weekend(I know, still hard for me to believe) and were married less than a year later. Ten years ago we were actively looking for a vacation home and I saw the internet listing for our vacation home. I called my husband and told him that it was so similar to the home in which we had met,and although at that time it needed a lot of work, we bought it and it became a labor of love. It has been the center of so many happy family memories. Our children are young adults now and our middle son married young and we have two beautiful granddaughters. They have helped us create another generation of wonderful family adventures. We hope to share our home and help other families create happy memories to last a lifetime.

Lana Richardson purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Lana Richardson chose South Lake Tahoe

My husband and I fell in love 25 years ago when I was visiting Lake Tahoe was a romantic choice for our vacation home.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home is unique in the 1950's design and architecture. It is different than many of the cabins nearby with its cottage themed decor instead of all wood interior. Interior design is my passion and I am drawn to the eclectic warm and cozy feeling of cheerful colors that seems to take us back to a simple, family based lifestyle. For the knotty pine fan, we still have one room that holds true to that theme. Best of both worlds!

Perfect Winter Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We love, love, love this rental the moment we set foot in it! Lana's cottage had the beautiful characteristics of an older yet updated home with a unique layout. Our 3 daughters (12, 10 & 6) felt the upstairs area was a magical hideaway with plenty of room to play and explore. The surrounding grounds is such a winter wonderland with a large backyard to sled around and build snowmen. This rental was more than we had hoped for. Lana was so helpful, pleasant and quick to reply with any questions. The love and care she puts into her cottage is felt and evident throughout. We truly can't wait to come back:)

Owner's Response: Thank you so very much for your kind words and for being such a pleasure to work with. I am so glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay. Old houses can be truly magical, especially for children because they are usually more open with their imagination. It sounds like you and your family are similar to mine in our appreciation of the unique architecture and the history that welcomes you in older homes. We hope that you all will be able to visit again soon. :) Lana

Great cottage and great location.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was great! It was incredibly cozy and roomy. The location is perfect, close to stores and restaurants and the lake. There is a lot of outdoor space in the backyard to play with snow. The owner Lana was great and responded very quickly to questions and concerns. The only cons are the parking and the water for showering. The garage spaces are very small, we were only able to fit a mazda cx5 and toyota tacoma truck barely fit in the driveway, we were able to park across the street in the burger place, of course with permission. The water stream from the showers was very small and barely any water came out. But other than that we had a great time!

Owner's Response: Hi Veronica, I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay. :) Thank you for bringing the slow flow of hot water in the shower to my attention. I called our plumber and he cleaned the filter to the shower head and the tankless water heater and it's fixed. :)

Cabin not as anticipated

  • 1 of 5

I stayed at this cabin for three nights in late 2016. When we entered the cabin, it was apparent that the housekeeper had not cleaned yet. We had to leave and return several hours later. Parking is terrible! It says there is garage parking for two cars but there is only parking for one small car. No SUV or truck could park here. We tried to get a Toyota Prius in the 2nd garage bay and it would not fit. In order to back out of the garage, someone has to stand on the road and watch for traffic. There is nowhere to park close by that would be considered safe. Kitchen was not well stocked at all. There was no foil, baggies or Tupperware of any kind. There were also no cookie sheets or baking pans. The worst was that there were no dish towels or pot holders. We had to use a washcloth from the bathroom and hand towels. The upstairs was freezing unless you were in the living room with the fireplace on or in the bedroom with the wall heater on. There was no heat in the area upstairs with the kitchen and twin bed. Be advised that the stairs going to the second floor are extremely steep and narrow. This was not mentioned in the description and complicated our sleeping arrangements.

Owner's Response: Terri, I am so sorry to hear that your stay was not what you expected. In the 5 years that I have managed our vacation home, I have never received less than 4 stars on any review and always try my best to help make a pleasant experience for our guests. Last summer the City of Lake Tahoe and Caltrans took a portion of our land with no compensation to us to make the sidewalks and bike lane. Although it looks very nice, we were quite disheartened that we could do nothing about it. I parked my Mittsubishi Montero and later a Cadillac SRX that I leased very comfortably in the right sided of the garage. They are both mid-sized SUV'S. There is a wall heater on the wall of the bonus room and I have extra room heaters to plug in, stored in the closets. The baking sheets are in the drawer under the stove. Your stay was almost 7 months ago. I wish that you had called or texted me or my housekeeper and we could have helped you with these concerns. Also we have parked our own vehicles on the street behind our house when we have more thank 2 cars and have never had a problem. We do still park our oversized truck diagonally in the driveway or on the street behind us. Our family has been working together for more than 12 years, little by little, to make our home a place that is affordable and cozy for us to share with our guests. I am sorry that was not your experience. Lana

Cozy Group Weekend

  • 4 of 5

We had a great weekend playing board games as well as super convenient access to Heavenly ski resort. The house is small but for a short weekend it really meant we were incentivized to spend all our time hanging out in the shared spaces. The beds were comfortable and the furniture is new and comfortable. Very cute design of the house, everything in the house was as advertised. Only down side is the 2-car garage only fits 1 car. The second bay couldn't even fit a small Mazda which means you have to leave cars outside in the driveway at the mercy of snow plows or leave the garage door open. Otherwise we had a great weekend in the house!
