We had a wonderful week at Key Colony! Our party included two adults, two children and my father. The layout of the house was perfect for us with every bedroom having a bathroom.

We loved the canal behind the house and the kids fished off the back.

The kitchen was well-appointed for a rental home.

I loved the proximity to the Cabana Club (less than a 10 minute walk) and the Sunset Park. We participated in many activities in Marathon and Big Pine Key. The location was perfect!

The neighborhood was quiet and we enjoyed the peace and serenity of Key Colony.

I highly recommend this rental for families or couples!

Great vacation in a great place

  • 5 of 5

We vacation with our friends and grandkids every year and have come to the Marathon area for vacations in the past, but have never stayed in Key Colony. We rented this duplex on the recommendation of a friend and are so glad we did. Sometimes, in the past we had noisy or inconsiderate neighbors that put a damper on our vacation. Not in Key Colony. We really enjoyed this safe, quiet and friendly community. The adults and kids enjoyed the Cabana Club pool and beach, tennis, the parks and all the amenities. It's a great place to live and vacation. Our duplex was also a cut above most we've rented. I don't know if that is true of all rentals in Key Colony, but it sure was for ours. It was so clean and had very nice furnishings and décor. It was stocked with everything from lobster cooking pots to paper goods and linens and had everything we needed. The owners had beach equipment, fishing rods, noodles, and all kinds of toys and games for the whole family. it really kept the kids busy so the adults didn't have to entertain them all the time giving us some vacation time too. Plus, there were TVs in their bedrooms. We had an excellent close-up view of the canal and we particularly loved that the back of the house and dock on the canal side faced east so we had abundant shade in the hot afternoons. We grandmas and grandpas liked that the duplex was all on the ground level with no stairs. That was so nice for our old bones not to have to climb stairs.

We would be remiss if we didn't mention the TLC by the owners. We arrived in late evening tired from the long drive and were not looking forward to doing the grocery shopping even just a little to get through the next morning. We were surprised to find snacks and beverages the owners put out for us. It saved us an immediate trip and made our first morning here more leisurely. We also had a major thunderstorm the second night we were here and lost power for several hours. The owners had equipped the duplex with candles, flashlights and lanterns and the emergency battery lights came on as well so we were fine. Even so, the owners asked us if we needed anything else and mentioned they had a generator, fans and several coolers if the power stayed off for a long time. We were glad the owners were close if needed and had such concern for their renters. All in all, this was a great vacation in a great place. We will pass on the recommendation we received to other friends.

Better equipped than my house

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in the Keys and we had such a great time we didn't want to go home. We had 17 in our party with young kids, teenagers and even grandparents for a family reunion. Six of us stayed at this great place and the rest were in two other rentals. The price was about the same, but our rental was much better than theirs and we wished we could have all stayed here.

We loved the Keys and had so much fun. You wouldn't think there was as much to do as there is, even without the fabulous fishing, boating, snorkeling and diving. If you've been thinking of coming here, do it! Try to work in an all-day trip to key West, too. It's less than an hour away. So much fun and great weather. We brought our boat, but really appreciated the free use of kayaks and beach stuff like chairs, umbrellas, towels, and even beach toys and fishing rods for the kids. That thoughtfulness by the owner and the access to the fabulous Cabana Club made our non-boat time even more enjoyable. We felt we were in a high-end resort.

We liked this rental very much. It was so clean and so pretty with every thing matching and plenty of supplies and linens. Every time we looked for something like a muffin tin, wine opener or anything, it was there. I believe your rental was better equipped than my house. We loaned some stuff to the members of our party in the other rentals, but we made sure we returned it all to yours. We appreciated all the special touches you provided throughout the rental plus information on restaurants, activities and adventures. Your welcome book was a treasure trove of information alone.

Our part of the family will definitely be coming back in the future and hope you have a vacancy.

BEST PLACE WE'VE EVER STAYED IN THE KEYS!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place and wish we lived here. We are a multi-generational family from teens to 30s to a bit older :) We were looking for a place that could accommodate eight people on the ground floor. This duplex was recommended by a friend who stayed here and it is the best place we have ever stayed in the Keys and we've been coming for several years. There were eight chairs for the dining room and a nice island with bar stools for quick snacks so no stand up dining for some of our group like some of the other places we have stayed.

The outside was just as lovely and was well appointed with table, chairs and lounges. A BIG bonus was the commercial size ice machine that was soooo quick that we had enough ice for our boat within an hour or so. There was also a large freezer for our catch and a nice fish table plus all kinds of equipment for fun and the beach like chairs, umbrellas, noodles, fishing rods and so much more. The owners literally thought of everything!

The house has coordinated new-looking furniture and decorations that were beautiful and it was immaculate. The owners also thoughtfully provided a lot of the niceties that you'd find in your own home so we didn't have to buy them for a short time use which made shopping less costly and easier. There were supplies like salt and pepper, olive oil, flour and sugar in the kitchen along with napkins, aluminum foil, plastic wrap and baggies. We also found beach/pool towels, laundry soap, Downey, dish soap, dishwasher soap and kleenex in addition to the expected TP, bath soap and paper towels. Another nice surprise was first morning coffee and bagels. Very thoughtful owners who cared about their renters.

We are now spoiled and will be returning!

Not expecting chaperones.

Please be aware that the owners live directly above you. The house is a nice three bedroom three bath, with a pull-out couch and a roll-out cot. It is perfect for families and an older couples getaway. We booked this property for mini lobster season and were, I believe, the fourth group to stay here. Being in our thirties and one couple in their fifties we felt we were constantly watched, due to the multiple calls and emails from the property manager stating we were in "violation" of our contract. If you are a group of young ADULTS, save yourself the headache. If you are a family looking for a place to have a quiet getaway, book now, just make sure you state everything and everyone you are bringing. We just wish someone would have told us the owners lived upstairs, they told us they were going out of town but never did, or we would have made other arrangements.

Owner's Response: To our future guests. The property manager has no choice but to respond to violation complaints reported to the City of Key Colony Beach such as boat-rafting, exceeding maximum occupancy requirements, too many boats, too many trailers, bringing own pool and filling with owner's water without consideration of water usage or permission of owner or property manager, and encroaching on a neighbor's dock. As far as this being a place for younger people, all of our renters have been in young or middle age group, and all have enjoyed their time here without feeling "watched." -------------------------------------- As of today, 9/28/15, an update on this review for future reference~ the owners no longer reside upstairs. Bonnie, Property Manager
