While we grew up on opposite sides of the country, we met and fell in love on the north shore. This property gives us everything we look for, a quiet slice tropical paradise just steps away from any adventure we may want. Whether we are enjoying fresh smoothies made from our papaya grove or cocktails made from our calamansi tree, life is as good as it gets on the North Shore.
Falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean and waking up to the birds chirping and the scent of jasmine in the air are just a few of our favorite aspects of our slice of tropical paradise. Walking thru our jungle like backyard you will discover all sorts of native plants from an assortment hibiscus and ginger to lilikoi and bromiliads. You will also find some of our fun masks collected from our travels growing into the banyan trees.
As I searched VRBO, I felt unsure about exactly where to stay on the North Shore. However, the owners (Kiley & John) were prompt and responsive to my questions about their VRBO rental. (That was my first good sign.) Their ad said they were close to the beach, but booking online makes it kind of hard to know exactly how close "close" is. So I looked it up on Google Maps which proved it. (Second good sign.)
When I read that beach cruisers (bikes), paddleboards, boogie boards, snorkel gear, etc. are included (third good sign), I booked my weekend right away! At that point, it didn't matter much to me what the place looked like inside or outside; what mattered was that everything I was interested in doing would be provided.
For me (a Realtor), the photos at the time didn't portray how bright, sunny and charming this downstairs studio cottage is. But again, that didn't matter because I saw value in having all things beach included, and my professional eye was able to piece together the layout of the home.
I arrived and quickly noticed Kiley's touches of comfort. I was greeted by a letter with the house rules (quiet hours 9 pm - 8 am was my favorite one as they live in a quiet cul-de-sac); there were also cookies, nuts & coffee, clean linens and plenty of towels (bath & beach), and pillows & blankets.
The bathroom has a clean bathtub/shower which I thought would be good for parents traveling with children. However, it IS a studio style home (condo in my view) with an open concept floorplan, so that's something to bear in mind if you desire a private bedroom away from the kids.
There are a couple of things that (outside quiet hours) were audible: next door neighbors having band practice during the day on Sunday and footsteps from the visiting couple upstairs. Neither annoyed me personally because I was so happy about all the good things that this place had to offer. Plus, I was so happy to be in Hawaii.
Positive notables: A/C and a ceiling fan inside, the patio/lanai with a table & chairs, parking in their driveway, being 300 or so footsteps to the sand, clean and lovely inside and out, nice neighborhood with friendly neighbors, comfortable queen size bed, iPod dock/stereo, spacious closet, and lots of natural light from several windows.
I am looking forward to my next visit to Waimea/Haleiwa/North Shore and I will definitely call Kiley & John again to stay in their sunny and comfy rental!
Aloha & Mahalo!
Nothing as peaceful as the north shore. The accommodations were exactly as described. Everything you need is provided. We loved it and highly recommend it.
One of the things I appreciated was the clear and well written instructions by the host for everything for this visit, directions, location of keys, use of internet, off street parking site, location of beach toys etc and any things required for lock up i.e. garbage removal etc .We were able to be self sufficient and independent but we did meet Kiley the first night who took us through a few things. She also checked in with us if we crossed paths the following days to ensure everything was going well. All the equipment and "toys" provided are great quality and work well. The air conditioner was required and is quiet and effective. We explored the walking paths, beaches, shops and food and shrimp trucks close by.
The surf was very high while we were there so beaches close by were not swimmable so we went further south or east to enjoy snorkelling and swimming. This is a good location to travel easily especially eastward.
The unit is large and spacious for a couple and could expand to a small family with 2 "tween or teen " children. As mentioned there is not a view of the ocean but you can hear the surf because you are so close. Watching the surfers was time well spent as well. The North Shore of Oahu has an interesting "vibe" which was great to experience. I would recommend this unit especially in winter months for surfers.
We booked this stay at the very last minute and it could not have been more perfect. Loved absolutely everything about the property, the location, and the area. With any luck, we will be back!!
We enjoyed our stay at this Haleiwa Studio. It is very close to many beaches, & a central location for all the North Shore sites. It was plenty big enough for my husband & I, and was very clean & nicely decorated. It has air conditioning (a must for my husband no matter how nice the weather is), and was a very relaxing place to stay. We highly recommend it!
Kiley and John were great hosts. There place is bigger than we expected and we had all the privacy we needed! While it may not have been as up-to-date or comfy as a 5-star hotel, it was well worth the drive to the North Shore to get away from the tourists. Parking was a little crowded on the street, but we loved the location. You are literally steps away from one of the best beaches up there!
Kiley was super helpful and easy to find if we needed anything. We definitely got great use out of the kitchen and the outdoor shower. I'd definitely recommend her cute studio to friends and family!
We absolutely loved our time at this Haleiwa Studio. The space was welcoming and comfortable, and the location was more than we ever could have asked for. Beaches are within walking distance in every direction; we loved waking up in the morning and walking down to Shark's Cove to go snorkeling. The food cart pod within walking distance was perfect for lunches and dinners... we loved watching the sunset at Waimea Bay. Our last four nights at the studio were a perfect, relaxing end to a most memorable trip!
This north shore getaway is tucked into the heart of Haleiwa around the corner from Waimea Bay, across the street from 3-Tables, and a block away from a local grocery store and coffee shop. The north shore bike path (located just across the street) provides a safe and fun avenue for you to walk, run, or bike to see many of the famous north shore surf breaks and beaches. Whether you are looking for a spot just steps away from some of the finest beaches in the world, underwater adventures, surfing, hiking, golf, horseback riding, or eating and shopping your way thru the days, Haleiwa has it all. Historic Haleiwa, just 5 miles down the road, is filled with restaurants and unique local shops. Enjoy feasting on Matsumoto Shave Ice while perusing Local Art Galleries and Boutiques. Save your appetites for diverse dining from Kua ‘Aina burger to Bonzai Sushi. Looking for an adventure? Haleiwa Marina offers Shark Diving with North Shore Shark Adventure Tours as well as Deep Sea Fishing. While we have snorkel gear and paddle boards at the house for your enjoyment, if you are feeling like a deeper adventure, Deep Ecology is a local PADI Dive Center that offers certification and boat tours and Surf and Sea offers surf and paddle board lessons to perfect your technique. Of course, Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Chuns, and Waimea Bay surf breaks are all just minutes away and offer some of the finest surfing in the world, they also have some of the best sea glass hunting! Dillingham Airfield is only 15 miles away and offers skydiving. Or if golf is calling you, Turtle Bay Golf Course is just 7-miles away that also offers a world class spa and exercise facility as well as several dining possibilities.
