Newly Remodeled Single Story Cabin - PET FRIENDLY

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Chief's Retreat is the ultimate getaway for your next visit to Big Bear. Recently remodeled, it sleeps 6 comfortably, has ample parking and is easily accessible.

The living room includes a modular sofa with two recliners, queen sized sleeper, a flat screen TV, and lots of movies. Wood burning stove is in the front room.

I've recently upgraded to a 50" TV and added electric blankets for warmth on cold winter nights.

The kitchen has been completely updated with new cabinets, appliances, and furniture.

Big Bear Lake is the gem of Southern California, located about two hours east of Los Angeles. Both summer and winter are equally ideal times to make the pilgrimage to Big Bear. Fishing is a major summer attraction here, as well as mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. Snow Summit and Bear Mountain ski resorts make the most of Big Bear’s heavy snowfall. The fall season boasts stupendous weather and fall colors as well as numerous events perfect for your family getaway. Once you visit Big Bear, you’ll understand why families return to this area year after year.

Needs some upgrades

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at this cabin for two nights during our snowboarding trip. Check in time was at 4pm, but when we arrived at the cabin around 430pm from Bear Mountain, the cabin was freezing cold. There are no vents in the cabin for the heat to flow from the wall furnace in the living room. It took about 3 hours for the cabin to get warm. The guidelines on setting up the fireplace is very difficult, also because it specifically says not to purchase wood from grocery stores when the only place opened past 6pm are grocery stores. Therefore, we didn't even try to utilize the fireplace. Around 7pm, the outlets went out including gas stoves, living room television, phone chargers. I called about this issue and i was told to go outside and restart the breaker, which was also a hassle since it was dark and freezing cold. This cabin also does not provide wi-fi, which I find it very odd, because most cabins have wi-fi access.

The cabin was clean and easy to find, but a little bit of upgrades would make this place a real cozy place.

Owner's Response: Future Guests, I am very frustrated and dismayed by this guests comments regarding no wi-fi and the heater. Both topics have been addressed in reviews and my rental documentation. If the guest had READ the rental information supplied prior to making the trip (less than 2 pages including a diagram with no big words) they would have known that there is no wi-fi and that there are two heat sources - a wall furnace and a wood stove. In February when it can get down into the low twenties and teens, it is essential that you understand how cold it can get. Most cabins of this size and age all have a wall furnace. If heat is an issue please rent a newer cabin that has forced air heating. Documentation is forwarded in a timely manner giving guests plenty of time to purchase wood. To say that they arrived too late to buy wood is simply bad planning on their part. This reservation was made 2 weeks in advance giving plenty of time for planning. The guest did call me regarding the electricity (most likely it was overloaded). I answered the call immediately and provided a fast solution by having the guest flip the switch in the fuse box. I could have called a handyman but it would have taken much longer to resolve. I have close to 58 reviews with 43 of them being 5 stars, I think that says a lot about the cabin and how I manage it. Thanks for letting me vent, Tonya

Cute and Cozy!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great for a quick weekend trip to go up to the slopes and have a warm, comfy, home base to come back to. Has all the necessary amenities, wood burning stove for warmth and ambiance, coffee maker!, heating blankets as the bedrooms where colder than the living quarters, good sized bathroom with washer/dryer and a great patio deck in the backyard to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect home for our family’s yearly snow trip. The house was in a quiet neighbor, only 10 mins or so from the slopes. It was clean and the best part... HEATED BLANKETS! Those definitely were worth it when it got cold at night. I also had to email the host about something and got a fast response (it was more of an FYI about something), which is wonderful especially when you are already there. Overall a great experience!
