Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bath, Plus 2 twin loft

Remodeled Summer 2013, this beautiful Beech Mountain, North Carolina “Round House” is nestled among the tree tops at an elevation of 4580’ and is less than a mile from the Beech Mountain Ski Resort entrance. All new furnishings include custom kitchen cabinetry, mattresses, linens, and more for your ultimate comfort get-a-way. The living room has a new stone façade 42” fire place with gas logs (no messy firewood needed!). The best part is turning on the fireplace is as easy as flipping on the light switch. While cozying up by the fireplace, you can watch the 55” Smart TV or your favorite DVD. You will enjoy cooking your favorite comfort foods in the custom kitchen fully equipped with stainless appliances and porcelain farm sink. Solid walnut countertops add to the beauty of the kitchen. Enjoy meals or play games at the large dining table made with reclaimed white oak wood. You will appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of the reclaimed hardwood floors salvaged from an 1830’s barn in Wisconsin.

Bring the marshmallows and make some memories by the outdoor fire pit. The fire pit is located next to the rolling creek running through the property. Relaxation and memory making at its best!

Each bedroom has a custom built queen size bed with drawers for your personal storage. Along with new mattresses, you’ll be sure to stay cozy and comfortable with the dual controlled electric blankets for those cool Beech Mountain nights. The loft is a perfect set up for children with a twin day bed and trundle, child size activity table, games, toys, and 32” Smart TV. A huge outdoor deck was rebuilt for reading, dining, and listening to the soothing sounds of the creek on the property. The newest addition is a large outdoor flagstone patio and fire pit. This is the perfect area for outdoor family fun. The gazebo span’s the creek and is a perfect place to have a tea party for princesses or be a castle and moat for young knights. Beech Mountain boasts a summer temperature rarely above 80 degrees and an average winter snowfall of 80” (many winters having much more)! Depending on the season, spend your day hiking, fishing, mountain biking, golfing, whitewater rafting, skiing, sledding, ice skating, shopping, or relaxing on the couch. It doesn’t get much more peaceful than this!

Although the roads are maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, a 4-Wheel or All-Wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are recommended during the winter months.

About Stephen Litchfield

Our family currently resides on the coast of South Carolina. While we truly enjoy the Lowcountry with the water and beach we do love our time on Beech Mountain when we get a chance to head up there. Our kids love playing in the creek outside and seeing all the wildlife on the mountain. With all the activities on the mountain there is plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Stephen Litchfield purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Stephen Litchfield chose Blue Ridge Mountains

If elevation is your desire, then this is the place! Beech Mountain is the highest incorporated town east of the Mississippi. Being less than a mile from the ski slopes was important as was the unique location of the house. We wanted to have as much snow as possible and found the perfect home.

What makes this cottage unique

You want to choose our property if peace and tranquility are important to you. One of our favorite features of the house is the creek. It is usually rolling with water from mountain run off and there is nothing more peaceful than sitting on the deck or by the fire pit listening to it. The children love turning over rocks looking for salamanders, crawfish, etc.

We also fell in love with the wildlife and nature surrounding us. Its amazing what you will see just while watching out the window.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with our family. We bonded as we enjoyed the fire pit, children's toys, and creek. We will be back!

Charming, nicely updated, cozy & super clean!

  • 5 of 5

This is such a great getaway! The owners did a fantastic job with the renovation! Although we weren't there much, it was really nice to come back at the end of an action packed day, flick on the fire, make dinner and relax. All the beds are incredibly comfortable. My boys loved the loft area. This is a terrific location too...just down the street from Beech Mountain, restaurants, general store etc. Highly recommend!

Great cabin for any time of the year!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the creekside cabin in February for a short ski trip with our kids. The accommodations were incredible and the detail put into the restoration of this cabin were well appreciated! The kitchen and family room become the center of this home and are a warm place to gather and connect after a day of adventure in the mountains.

I look forward to returning soon!

Absolute Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

This home is impeccably clean, perfectly maintained, beautifully decorated, and stocked with every imaginable amenity you could desire. It was, hands down, the most comfortable home we've ever rented, feeling more like we'd been invited there by family/friends. The kids loved the loft upstairs and were so entertained by all the toys and books. The beds were SO comfortable. We wanted for nothing in the kitchen, or elsewhere. Everything was perfectly set up for maximum fun and zero hassle. We enjoyed evening fires in the snow, and were amazed that firewood was provided. Though we come to area to ski, the deck/patio/yard/creek were so pretty that we found ourselves wanting to return during warm weather to enjoy the beautiful outdoors there in a different way. We will most definitely be returning! Thank you so much for a wonderful time!

Could Not Ask For A Better Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at the Litchfield's cabin on Beech Mountain and it was just as amazing our our first trip last year. The location is extremely convenient for traveling around the area, especially if you are planning to ski/snowboard. The cabin itself is in great condition with top of the line appliances and very comfortable beds. Other than food and toiletries, the cabin is stocked with everything you need. We will definitely be back. We would not dream of staying anywhere else when visiting the area. Thank you Litchfield family!!

Close drive to Lake Coffey

Lake Coffey is one of Beech Mountain’s signature neighborhood parks nestled off of Lakeledge Rd. Lake coffey is a great place to fish as it is stocked regularly with mountain trout. Coffey park is also a great place for exercise with its ¼ mile walking track around the lake, basketball court, and of course since it serves as the junction point for Beech Mountain’s premier upper and lower pond creek trails. You can enjoy an entire day at this wonderful park!

3.5 miles to Buckeye Recreation Center and Buckeye Lake

The Buckeye Lake Recreation Area is a 60+ acre recreation preserve that includes the 23,000 sq. ft. Buckeye Recreation Center, playground, falls hiking trail, a large picnic pavilion, non-motorized boat dock, numerous fishing access points, and a community bonfire pit.

Beech Community Sledding Hill

Beech Mountain is home to the High Country’s only free, publicly maintained and groomed (complete with artificial snow making) community sledding hill. The sledding hill park opens Thanksgiving weekend, weather permitting and remains open through the first of march, again weather permitting. Located atop Beech Mountain neighboring the Town Hall and Chamber of Commerce/Visitors Center, you are sure to enjoy this wonderful winter park complete with holiday music and lots of winter cheer! Please note, the sledding hill is for children under 12 years old, closes at dark, and we ask that you only use plastic sleds.
