About the property

2 Br, 1 Bath Off Grid Log Home On 60 Acres, Surrounded By National Forest

This well constructed log home is off grid, but features a fully equipped kitchen with propane appliances, a full bath with a shower/tub combination, and propane lights throughout. Electricity is available if needed using solar energy and a propane generator. The living area features a wood stove, dining area for 6 and big cushioned benches with great views, along with a couple of recliners to relax in front of the fire. There is a big porch with endless views, equipped with an outdoor table, rocking chairs and Adirondack chairs for relaxing. A deck next to the porch has a bench and is a great place for outdoor grilling. The Master Bedroom has a King Bed; the second bedroom has two twins, and the living room area has cushioned long benches that can accommodate additional sleepers if needed. There is no TV or WiFi in the home, but the cell signal is very good, so portable hot spots are fine. (Hot spots are also readily available in town at various locations). The house sits on 60 acres, surrounded by National Forest, within a couple of miles of the Buffalo Peaks Wilderness Area. Four Mile Creek runs through the narrow valley just below the cabin. With no other homes anywhere in sight, you have wonderful views of the Collegiate Peaks to the west, Buffalo Peaks to the north, and the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the south. A few miles down the road towards town, the Four Mile area offers miles and miles of jeep roads and some singletrack. There are hiking and mountain biking opportunities right out the door of the cabin. Wildlife sightings are frequent. In spite of the wonderful feeling of isolation, the town of Buena Vista is only about 15 to 20 minutes away -- with restaurants, bars, and other services. Buena Vista is well know for its whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Arkansas river, as well as for endless hiking and mountain biking trails in the Collegiate Peaks area to the west of town.

About Debbie Farrell

I have lived in the Buena Vista area for about 14 years, having moved here from big cities on the East Coast to enjoy the wonderful mountains. I love to travel, but every time I come back to this valley, I am more convinced that there is no better place to live. It is absolutely beautiful here, with the '14ers' of the Collegiate Peaks towering over the 8,000 foot valley, snow-capped for a lot of the year. We enjoy tons of sunshine with Colorado blue skies. Since I love all the things you can do in mountains (trail running, hiking, skiing, showshoeing, biking), this area really has it all for me.

Debbie Farrell purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Debbie Farrell chose South Central

While I have a lovely home on the west side of the valley (with great mountain views), I fell in love with this property when I happened upon it on a trail run one day. The views are so expansive and the feeling of having it all to yourself so strong, that I still feel like I exhale the minute I step out onto the porch. One day I'd like to build on the property, but in the meantime, I thought I would offer others that special feeling that I get every time I spend time at the cabin.

What makes this cabin unique

I don't even know how to convey how special this property is. A couple of times, I've had barbecues during the day at the cabin for my friends from the area. I find that people stay until the sun goes down because they don't want to leave the porch. (The photo above was a recent birthday party up there.) It's also a great feeling to just stroll out of the cabin down to the creek or across the road up to the (local secret) mountain bike trail along the ridge line.

This cabin was amazing! This was a great getaway for celebrating our 10year wedding anniversary. We enjoyed being away from town and the quiet hikes! Love the fireplace and the front porch views can't be beat! Thank you for sharing this home with us. Already wanting to plan another trip and bringing our 2 daughters back with us!

The location provided splendid views!!To accomplish all the amenities in such a remote place was outstanding!! We enjoyed the hiking that was available with easy access from the cabin. Nice place to get away from the tv and negative news. Very quiet!

One of the best places I have ever had the privilege of staying at

  • 5 of 5

I have never been more satisfied with a vacation rental before. This place was everything it promised plus more. The cabin has all the modern convinces while still being a 'off the grid feeling'. Lots of great areas to hike around the property. Dogs loved it. The views from the cabin are amazing. Pictures do not even do justice to how beautiful the scenery is in person. I have visited the surrounding area several times and I wish I would have found this gem sooner. Will definitely try to stay here again!

THE BEST CABIN EVER!!!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cabin just for the view and was blown away when we arrived. The photo did not do it any kind of justice. My husband, dogs, and myself had the best time. It is very quiet. I have never heard a quiet quite like this. But you are still close to Buena Vista and other attractions. The cabin was clean and well stocked. My husband and pups did not want to leave! WE HAD AN AMAZING TIME!!! We will definitely be back!

Spectacular views, a toasty fire, and all the comforts of home

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights with our two young children in this cabin and all had a fantastic time. The views from the front porch are exceptional, and we did not see another person in sight our entire stay. We went on a couple of short hikes right from the cabin that provided fun exploring and good views. We didn’t see any large wildlife, but lots of rabbits, squirrels, and birds kept us entertained. And the boys got a huge kick out of listening to the coyotes howl at night. Drinking coffee on the porch while watching the sunrise was the highlight for me. Pure relaxation. Apart from the solar array at the back of the cabin, we hardly realized we were off the grid. We were able to charge our phones as needed, and the cell reception was great. There was unlimited hot water, and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home for the three days we were there, including some basic groceries like olive oil, salt and pepper, and peanut butter, presumably items that had been left by prior guests. This is a unique place, and I’m so glad we were able to spend some time here!
