Our 'Beached Bungalow' was at one time a floating hotel room that was made entirely out of local hardwoods, and weather proof woods. The floats still are under the cabin, but the whole floating hotel room is now up on the beach on concrete pylons with a large deck and ramp up to the cabin. The cabin itself has one King Bed, and one Single bed sleeping 3 very comfortably. We can add air mattresses for additional guests. There is a full bath with hot water shower. There is also a small sitting area inside the cabin...for those days that the sun is too much, or when it does rain. Oh did I mention the prism shaped skylight built into the roof of the cabin...great for checkin' out the stars from bed!! There is limited cooking facilities available at the cabin, and the electricity is provided by batteries, and generators (internet available). This is a Full On Adventure you will never forget as long as you live!!
Capt. Dave (Merf), and Sue Murphy are from the Florida Keys, near Key West. Merf is a retired airline pilot, and Sue is a retired mother/landscaper, who started to hatch a plan to leave Hurricanes behind and move to Panama, Central America, in 2006 The plan was to build and run a small fishing/eco-tour resort. Well let's be optimistic and just say the project has been delayed for a while. So in the mean time Sue is following her dreams of running the eco-tour side of the business with kayak tours up the estuary, and Merf is running the charter boats, specializing in Big Game Fishing. The Beached Bungalow has recently been finished and we are looking forwarding introducing our clients to some of the most amazing nature available anywhere on the earth. From huge Marlin to Crocodiles...we have it all...just no TV!!! Come see for yourselves!! Carpe Diem
Sue Murphy purchased this cabin in 2010
This cabin, now called 'the Beached Bungalow' started life as a floating hotel room, but didn't like the Nortera winds, so we took the only safe option and beached it...thus the name. It is in a truly mystical location and has been described as Romantic, and Totally Isolated. Many water activities such a Big Game Fishing, and Eco-Tous are available, as well as many land based activities such as Horse back riding, and Zip Line tours. This cabin is rented as a Bed and Breakfast, and there are local restaurants for more service. The cabin itself sleeps 2-3 and has a King Bed, Single Bed, Full Bath with running hot water, a sitting area, and a large outside patio, built out over the mouth of a beautiful peaceful bay! The entire cabin is built out of local hardwoods, to add a certain level of charm, and warmth. The view to the West includes fantastic sunsets across the water, and to the North a spectacular view of the Continental Divide with volcanos.
The Unique location of the "Beached Bungalow" really says it all! The ocean coming in & going out 15 ft - twice a day, parrots & hummingbirds flying overhead, howler monkeys passing by in the trees overhead...... and You are ALL by yourselves, nestled into the shore! Foot steps from land & shore! Come see for yourselves!!
My friend and I were visiting Boca Chica for the first time and met Merf & Sue at a local resort, and before we knew it, we were unpacking our bags in their waterfront cabin. The next two days we fished, snorkeled and found a private beach to explore. We had the best time w Capt. Merf & Sue. We can't wait to come back with more time!
My stay at Sue and Nerf's place was fantastic. Their place on the water was very relaxing and was just what I was looking for on part of my holiday to Panama. Had only planned to stay two nights, but as the place was great as were the hosts I managed to change the schedule a bit and get an extra night in.
Went out fishing with Merf to the infamous Hanibal Banks and had a great day out. his boat and gear are good.
The sun sets over the water are very nice and good place to sit having a glass of wine taking it all in.
There is also good w-ifi at the cabin which is an added bonus.
My husband and I were looking for a cute little place to stay while we explored Panama, and we found the perfect bungalow in Boca Chica. We woke up to parrots flying over, were visited by hundreds of hummingbirds and even saw a crocodile swim by! Amazing to say the least. Capt Merf & Sue took us out Island exploring in their boat and we saw turtle tracks on the beach, porpoise jumping along the way and then we got to their private beach and we thought that we were in heaven!! We came as guests and left as friends. Our hosts gave us a truly incredible vacation of a LIFETIME and we plan on returning next year for more fun!
Sue and murf were great hosts, and the bungalow was a very nice and private place to stay. If you are into fishing or nature viewing this is a pretty place with lots of options. Capt Murf and sue are easy to get along with and have lots of adventures to help you see this intresting place on the coast of Panama. be sure to hire them for a water adventure, well worth the costs and they are experienced and safety oriented guides. All around good folks.
Captain Merf and his wife Sue were such amazing hosts. With all the places we visited in Panama this was the most memorable. The room was great and they were attentive and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Capitan Merf took us out fishing and it was the best experience we had there and we fished a lot!
This Beach Front Cabin is truly unique! It is located directly on the Pacific Ocean, near the small fishing village of Boca Chica. It is a one hour drive from the major city of David. South of Boca Chica is the Gulf of Chiriquí, which contains some of the best offshore fishing in the world, as well a multitude of other ocean/beach related activities, that include Whale Watching, and Eco Tours. Land based activities in our area include everything from Horseback Riding and White Water Rafting, to an exciting ride through the trees on a Zip Line Adventure. The cabin itself, now known as 'The Beached Bungalow' has had an interesting life. It was originally built as a floating hotel room, but did not like the Nortera winds, so it was moved to calmer waters, So we made the only safe choice and floated our floating cabin up on the beach at a very high tide, and thus the name 'The Beached Bungalow'. The original floating cabin was a one bedroom suite with a full bath (running hot water and all), complete with a small sitting area, that slepts 3 people nicely. The cabin is made completely from local natural hardwoods. With the "beaching" of the bungalow, a large deck and ramp for shore access have been added. The views from your front deck are directly out of National Geographic, with the sun setting over the large secluded bay to the West, and the Continental Divide, up the estuary to the North! This cabin has limited electricity available with the use of batteries, and generators, so if you are expecting a large screen TV and to be able to plug in a hair dryer, this is not the place for you. We consider this a type of safari adventure, with very nice accommodations surrounded, very closely, by nature at it's wildest. Staying at this cabin is truly an adventure with monkeys swinging in the trees, and parrots flying over head. At this time we are renting this unique cabin as a bed and breakfast. While we do have limited cooking available here on the property there are full service restaurants available in the local area. This property has been described as 'enchanting' and 'The Beached Bungalow' has been described as totally unique...how could you get a better combination than that! We look forward to hearing from you soon & sharing Panama with you!! Sue & Merf Murphy
