Cabin is ideal for 1-4 people. Due to the rural nature of the property, it is not recommended for young children.
Come stay at the secluded Roundhouse and experience true privacy and relaxation on over twelve acres of the best Colorado has to offer! This unique get-away is located in the middle of a beautiful meadow surrounded by the sounds of the South Arkansas River and the rustling of large cottonwoods. The stunning sunsets over the Sawatch Mountain Range are easily beheld from the large great room windows. The beetle-kill tongue and groove ceiling spirals twenty feet high to a dome skylight that welcomes natural light during the day and the twinkle of stars at night. Even the views from the multiple bedroom windows beckon a second look. Spotting the abundant wildlife is a favorite and often unavoidable pastime. Anglers enjoy fishing in over 900 feet of private South Arkansas River right out the back door!
The Roundhouse has everything you’ll need on your vacation adventure, complete with full kitchen, a wood burning stove, and a washer and dryer. There are two, private bedrooms, one with a California king bed and one with a double bed. The spacious loft is a great place to play games or watch a movie. Enjoy satellite TV in the living room with over 200 channels for your viewing entertainment.
Conveniently located in the Arkansas River Valley’s banana belt, the Roundhouse is sunny and dry most of the winter yet only approximately ten minutes from the powder at Monarch Mountain. Downtown Salida is an approximately ten minute drive in the opposite direction where you can find a variety of restaurants, art galleries, a hot springs pool, and fun shops to explore. Salida also has a thriving nightlife with an upbeat and casual atmosphere and great music.
Book early – don’t miss out on spending your next vacation at the Roundhouse! Please feel free to contact us for more details or additional photos!
Thank you for your interest in our Salida cabin. After a few visits to the area, we fell in love with the community and all the area has to offer. We decided to spend as much time in Salida as possible.
Christy purchased this cabin in 2009
We wanted to build a cabin with a small environmental footprint to minimize our impact to this beautiful piece of paradise. Our cabin's round design consists of 27 four foot panels put together in the shape of a circle (over half of the panels are windows or full-light doors). This type of construction helps to keep the cabin toasty warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We also wanted to maximize the view given the scenery is beautiful in every direction. The wood used was formaldehyde-free and the paint and caulk are non-toxic. We tried to implement green building practices wherever possible, including the gypcrete for the in-floor radiant heat or the super efficient boiler (which also supplies endless hot water in case of back-to-back showers!).
Not only is the cabin wonderful and the land beautiful (I know, we are biased!), the location of the property makes it ideal for fun any time of the year. The cabin is off of a year-round maintained county road. We do get snow, which we love, but it quickly melts in the unique Salida climate (we ensure the snow is plowed on the driveway during our guests' stay, if necessary). Monarch Mountain or the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are great destinations in the winter. In the summer, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, and fishing are great activities to do on a vacation if you like the outdoors (my husband would argue fishing is great EVERY day). Of course, the town of Salida (as well as other near-by towns) are fun any day of the year. Thanks again for looking...and if you choose to stay at the Roundhouse, we hope you and your family or friends enjoy our cabin as much as we do!
We stayed at the Roundhouse for several nights through Christmas and LOVED it! Great location with the creek right behind the house. Great for exploring and finding a moment of peace! Far enough away from town to get away but close enough to drive in, if wanted. But best of all was the house itself. So cozy and clean! It's decorated beautifully and supplied with everything a family needs! The kitchen was extremely well equipped for any cooking needs. The loft was our favorite. Fun games and movies for kids and plenty of room to play.
Christy was super responsive and so very friendly. You can tell she not only takes pride in this wonderful vacation home but that she cares for her guests and truly desires for them to enjoy their stay while there. Definitely 5 stars all the way.
We've stayed in MANY rental properties in Colorado over the years and this one certainly will remain at the top. We will be back as soon as we can!
Thanks, Christy, for providing such a memorable vacation home!
The property is well-maintained and has all the necessities for a comfortable stay. It is only a few minutes drive to the town of Salida and there are many good hiking trails nearby. There is a good view of mountains in the distance and the creek in back provided a pleasant background of rushing water. Christy is a pleasure to work with and very helpful. We spent mornings and evenings sitting outside listening to the birds, watching 2 horses from the ranch next door, looking at the mountains in the distance or gazing at the stars. During the day we hiked in the mountains. There are beautiful aspen groves and relatively few other hikers so you have some solitude on the trails. We enjoyed our retreat from city life and definitely recommend the roundhouse for a stay in nature with all the comforts of home.
As my family approached the unassuming circular dwelling, reminiscent of Hagrid's Hut in the Harry Potter series, we weren't sure what to expect. When we entered, it was like stepping into the tent in The Goblet of Fire - so spacious and open inside! And those huge windows - WOW!! Every detail made our stay so pleasant...from the soft and thick linens to the fully equipped kitchen. There's even a motion sensor nightlight in the bathroom and TV headphones in the loft so while some may want to watch a dvd upstairs, others can enjoy the peaceful surroundings downstairs. The architecture, especially the ceiling with skylight, is a spectacular display of sheer craftsmanship. On our Fri-Sun getaway, my husband, 13-year-old son, & 9-year-old son enjoyed a day of skiing and snowboarding at nearby Monarch Mountain while I savored the solitude. There was zero noise or light pollution; the stars at night were immense and you could enjoy the sounds of the nearby Arkansas River. I saw so much wildlife, including a frolicking coyote, diving raptors, and myriad birds. My day of rejuvenation included a stroll of the grounds/river area, reading while frequently looking up to take in all the gorgeous mountain scenery, a nap in the comfy king size bed, and a nice hot shower. When my famished family returned from their winter adventure, we all cooked and feasted together before an evening of games, puzzles, and a family movie. One of my sons slept in the 2nd bedroom downstairs and the other retired in the loft; they both slept very well! We gazed through the sunlight one morning and were mesmerized by a crossing plane as it left its contrails across the sky. The layout of this unique home makes relaxing very easy, and everything is comfortable and user-friendly, from the fireplace to the electronics. Before arriving, we stopped in nearby charming Salida to grocery shop and both the convenience and friendliness of everyone just enhanced our stay. Christy made sure everything was prepared for us and the place was spotless. Although it's a 2BR/1BA, with the loft beds, 2 downstairs bedrooms, & couch w/pullout bed, it's really spacious enough to accommodate a larger family if necessary. When you're there, you feel like it's upscale but not so fancy that you can't enjoy the amenities - it just feels like home. I highly recommend staying here and enjoying the nearby activities like Monarch, Salida, & Poncha Springs, but our favorite part was simply being together in the Round House.
After a year full of deadlines I was seeking a place of solitude — a sanctuary for rest and peace. In seven wonderful days, I found it at the Round House.
The first thumbs up is for the place. The location is a few miles west of Salida and a short drive east of the grand vistas of the Continental Divide at Monarch Pass. The Round House is down a gravel road sitting alone in a meadow with majestic views.
The second thumbs up is for the house. It felt bigger than I expected — at 35 feet across there’s plenty of space and the large front windows make for a bright, open feel. The crafted wood ceiling is a work of art, a refinement lending a special beauty. The house is fairly new and has all the appliances, kitchen stuff, and necessary basic foodstuffs to cook there. I cooked at home for the first 4 days.
It was a winter wonderland when I was there. I spent hours in an easy chair gazing at the snow-capped peaks to the west. A fantastic site through the big windows!
Before choosing the Round House I did a lot of searching. For all it offers, the price is great. And, Christy was always available with her friendly helpful service.
So, 5 Stars & Double Thumbs Up!
Spent a wonderful weekend at the round house with spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains. Easy trip into town for groceries and a well equipped kitchen, made the weekend stress free. We cooked at the House all three nights but had lunch in Salida at a good pizza place, Amica's. The house is very well equipped, nice linens and towels, and the kids loved the loft. One of our granddaughters slept on the mattress under the sky light with amazing views of the night sky. In the bedroom, we left the windows open and could hear the river rushing by all night, so soothing. I have only one complaint, I wish there had been screen doors on the house. We tried leaving the doors open for a while in the early evening as it was quite warm, but we were inundated with flies so we had to shut them. Not a problem, just a thought. Hope to return next year, it's a wonderful place to stay.
The Roundhouse was a perfect place for us! It is a unique house with stunning mountain views and the S. Arkansas River running right thru the property. The environmental friendly design takes advantage of the views. You drive thru a pasture upon arrival which actually lends to the charm of this property. We appreciated the design and comfort of the house---the interior ceiling is beautiful. Kitchen has everything you would need, beds are comfy and there is plenty of space with the loft! The 2 teen girls spent all of their time in the loft watching movies and hanging out. It would be a great spot for younger kids, too! The Roundhouse is only about 10--15 minutes from downtown Salida yet it feels secluded! There are no artificial/man made sounds at night---you can hear the river and view a gorgeous starry sky. Christy, the owner is very responsive and we enjoyed the coffee and chocolate upon our arrival. We were within a very short drive of excellent mountain hiking and we rafted thru Brown's Canyon on Arkansas River (recommend Noah's Ark rafting--great outfit)! We have visited Salida several times and Roundhouse is THE BEST rental yet. We will definitely return! I HIGHLY recommend this rental property!!
