Private Cabin On The South Arkansas River - 10 Minutes to Town and Near Monarch

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

Stay Somewhere Unique - on River with Mountain Views; Two Bedrooms plus Loft!

Cabin is ideal for 1-4 people. Due to the rural nature of the property, we cannot accommodate children under age twelve at the cabin.

Come stay at the secluded Roundhouse and experience true privacy and relaxation on over twelve acres of the best Colorado has to offer! This unique get-away is located in the middle of a beautiful meadow surrounded by the sounds of the South Arkansas River and the rustling of large cottonwoods. The stunning sunsets over the Sawatch Mountain Range are easily beheld from the large great room windows. The beetle-kill tongue and groove ceiling spirals twenty feet high to a dome skylight that welcomes natural light during the day and the twinkle of stars at night. Even the views from the multiple bedroom windows beckon a second look. Spotting the abundant wildlife is a favorite and often unavoidable pastime. Anglers enjoy fishing in over 900 feet of private South Arkansas River right out the back door!

The Roundhouse has everything you’ll need on your vacation adventure, complete with full kitchen, a wood burning stove, and a washer and dryer. There are two, private bedrooms, one with a California king bed and one with a double bed. The spacious loft is a great place to play games or watch a movie. Enjoy satellite TV in the living room with over 200 channels for your viewing entertainment.

Conveniently located in the Arkansas River Valley’s banana belt, the Roundhouse is sunny and dry most of the winter yet only approximately ten minutes from the powder at Monarch Mountain. Downtown Salida is an approximately ten minute drive in the opposite direction where you can find a variety of restaurants, art galleries, a hot springs pool, and fun shops to explore. Salida also has a thriving nightlife with an upbeat and casual atmosphere and great music.

Book early – don’t miss out on spending your next vacation at the Roundhouse! Please feel free to contact us for more details or additional photos!

About Christy

Thank you for your interest in our Salida cabin. After a few visits to the area, we fell in love with the community and all the area has to offer. We decided to spend as much time in Salida as possible.

Christy purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Christy chose South Central

We wanted to build a cabin with a small environmental footprint to minimize our impact to this beautiful piece of paradise. Our cabin's round design consists of 27 four foot panels put together in the shape of a circle (over half of the panels are windows or full-light doors). This type of construction helps to keep the cabin toasty warm in the winter and cool in the summer. We also wanted to maximize the view given the scenery is beautiful in every direction. The wood used was formaldehyde-free and the paint and caulk are non-toxic. We tried to implement green building practices wherever possible, including the gypcrete for the in-floor radiant heat or the super efficient boiler (which also supplies endless hot water in case of back-to-back showers!).

What makes this cabin unique

Not only is the cabin wonderful and the land beautiful (I know, we are biased!), the location of the property makes it ideal for fun any time of the year. The cabin is off of a year-round maintained county road. We do get snow, which we love, but it quickly melts in the unique Salida climate (we ensure the snow is plowed on the driveway during our guests' stay, if necessary). Monarch Mountain or the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs are great destinations in the winter. In the summer, whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, and fishing are great activities to do on a vacation if you like the outdoors (my husband would argue fishing is great EVERY day). Of course, the town of Salida (as well as other near-by towns) are fun any day of the year. Thanks again for looking...and if you choose to stay at the Roundhouse, we hope you and your family or friends enjoy our cabin as much as we do!

The Round House gets great cell reception. Most people use their cell phone to create an internet hot-spot. There is also a large loft for extra room. It is set up for movie watching complete with bean bag seating. There is a picnic table outside for additional eating options.

Wonderful vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Christy for making your home available to us! Our family had such a wonderful week of vacation. The design of the house with the open windows with the view of the mountains and sunsets were so beautiful.

Our boys really enjoyed the loft, creek, and openness of the land around the home. It was a boy’s haven. We loved waking up to the sunrise and beautiful sunsets in the evenings.

We cooked multiple meals in the roundhouse, and had all the kitchen accommodations we needed and then some. Christy was a great host - she had lots of helpful information, such as trail maps, restaurant info., and general information of the surrounding area. She was readily available to answer the questions we had prior to and during our stay. We made lots of great memories and had a wonderful vacation!

Great get away

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this unique cabin! The roof and skylight are amazing!! The floorplan is ideal as it provides more space than you would think and the space is well thoughtout. The cabin is not far from the adorable town of Salida, however, we enjoyed the cabin so much we really didn't want to leave. Views are beautiful and panoramic. The river behind the cabin is very private and relaxing. I hope we will be back and next time we would love to bring our children. The loft area would be perfect for them. The cabin had everything we needed for cooking, grilling, laundry etc. Christy is prompt, profesional and easy to contact.

Private and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for something with privacy and nature. This place did not disappoint. The neighboring properties were quite some distance away. The driveway into this property is long, the house is located past a row of trees blocking any view from the road. The river was bigger and better than expected. We loved our long weekend at the roundhouse.

Beautiful Views

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for 5 nights to snow ski at Monarch Mountain (about 10 miles away) and dog sled through the San Isabel National Forest. The Round House has lots of charm and beautiful views. The sunrises were stunning. It's very quiet and you can take a short stroll to the river that is on property. There is also a fire pit for your use outdoors. There is a full kitchen and laundry room at your disposal. The two bedrooms downstairs were enough for us, but there was also a roomy loft offering more sleeping space. The town of Salida is minutes away with plenty of eating options. You will NOT be disappointed in this rental!

Gorgeous, serene, unique..Perfect

  • 5 of 5

First I want to say, our family has traveled most of the U.S. We search for unique out-of-the-way cabins. The Round House is one of our favorites!! Yes, the views are as spectacular as you see in the pictures here, but we also fell in love with the house. It is beautifully crafted and the decor is perfect. Very well cared for and clean. The owner, Christy, is kind, caring, and accommodating. Although it is located in a private mountain area, it's central to many activities and not far from town.
