Charming, circa 1905, 'McCaskill Cottage' is located in the heart of Old Town. You will not need a car to go out for drinks and dinner or local shopping. The Carolina Hotel and Spa and the Pine Crest Inn are just one block away, and its only two blocks to the fine Village restaurants. A leisurely five block walk takes you to Pinehurst Country Club and its dining and golf facilities. .
McCaskill Cottage is beautifully decorated with tasteful wall and window coverings and paintings. The floors are the original 'heart pine' with occasional oriental carpets. An exquisite dining room with chandelier opens into an updated, well provisioned eclectic kitchen with island, a fun gathering place for preparing gourmet meals. There are Mexican tile floors in the kitchen which extend into the pantry and laundry room, and into a private wi-fi office overlooking the screened porch and swimming pool. Four bedrooms with antique colonial beds and furnishings provide comfortable sleeping for all.
The property has large well landscaped grounds with three porches: a covered veranda in front, an open porch with pergola on the south side, and a large screened porch in the rear. The gardens have antique brick paths weaving through several arbors and gazebos with numerous rhododendrons, azaleas, dogwoods, nandinas and flowers of all types. The beautiful and private in-ground swimming pool overlooks a grape arbor which serves as the portal to the back yard recreation area where guests can enjoy ping pong or horseshoes and a sand box for kids.
Our house was originally owned by the Tufts family, the founders of Pinehurst, who sold it to our family in the 30's where it has remained. Having lived all over the world, we keep returning to Pinehurst, which is truly remarkable in having retained its unique charm and status as the Capital of Golf in the US.
A quaint, cozy cottage with 4 bedrooms, perfect for a weekend get-away. 3 outdoor porches, (front one screened) and a swimming pool with a larger game area behind the pool for ping-pong or horseshoes. There is a piano and guitar for the musically-inclined.
The cottage could use some freshening as there was a grandmotherly old house smell about and most of the furniture and carpets were fairly dated. Overall, I would recommend to a friend.
My daughters and I had long anticipated a get away weekend together and the McCaskill Cottage did not disappoint. A beautiful well appointed home in a perfect location for all we enjoy. The Village and Spa were just a quick walk away and the lovely pool was the perfect beginning and end of our days. You will love being here for a short stay or even longer. Thank you John for opening your home for others to enjoy and answering our calls!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at McCaskill Cottage - what a pretty cottage within a five minute walk to historic Pinehurst Village. The house is well appointed with everything we needed and then some - great beds, clean bathrooms and plenty of space to spread out. As the weather was very hot when we were there, the pool was awesome to come home to after a long day on the golf course. We will be back next year - can't wait. Thanks John!
We loved the cottage and its proximity to everything! We enjoyed the nearby walking trails, which were wonderful!! Loved the pool and the screened in back porch.... the front porch with the rocking chairs really helped us unwind!!! Walked to the Pinecrest Inn to celebrate our anniversary! Prepared some great meals for the guys too, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed !!

This cottage has the PERFECT location for walking to the shops, restaurants & golfing in Pinehurst. It is very well appointed and the pool, garden & porches are great for relaxing evenings. The ping pong table was a big hit with my family.
Just steps away from the Village Arboretum with great hiking trails. In addition to being located within one block of the hotels, shops, pubs and restaurants, be sure to visit The Tuft's Archives where the most treasured golf memories are housed.
