About the property

5 Bedroom, 3.5 Bathroom, 25 Sleeps

Welcome to the estate we lovingly call, 'Compound Joy'!

The tree-lined, dappled sunlit approach to our property on Mt. Twin Sisters feels like you are entering a mystical and magical land. As soon as you set foot on the property, your whole family or group will smile, feeling right at home in casual comfort and elegance.

With 5 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, you have your choice from king-size bed with adjoining bathroom privacy to 6 bunk beds for the kids or others in your entourage. Perfect for a family retreat, your own version of 'The Big Chill' type of reunion, or group spiritual journey.

In fact, the house decor is intended to evoke peacefulness, energetic renewal and conscious expansion. A Native American ceremonial drum and other percussion instruments are available for your soul awakening, group bonding and delicious JOY!

We're on 20 acres, so expect all the quiet and privacy you can fathom... and enjoy the panoramic views of Suisun Valley.

We're 20 minutes drive from downtown Napa, only an hour from both San Francisco and Sacramento. Local wineries are within a 5 minute drive. The local Jelly Belly factory is a few miles away and great fun for kids of all ages! From June through December, nearby Larry's Produce is a throwback to a simpler time of getting fresh, locally grown food at prices that will make you smile. Trader Joe's and Safeway are about 10 minutes away. The highly rated, Mankas Tapas & Steakhouse, is also only a mile away.

The solar heated pool is sheer delight (in season). Given our unique micro-climate on Mt. Twin Sisters in bucolic Suisun Valley (rarely found in the Bay Area), you may enjoy a warm summer evening stroll or dip in the pool or soak in the hot tub under the stars. Large kitchen area (with brand new refrigerator and dishwasher) connecting to indoor dining room makes meal preparation a fun social event. Or grill outside and have your meal outside on the deck or poolside.

We have wi-fi internet access, 60 inch TV, DVD player, iPod ready speakers, ping pong, tennis court, basketball hoop, outdoor gas grill and kitchen, pond/fountain water feature and 10kw solar panels to make Compound Joy your very own playground as well as sanctuary. And if you appreciate wildlife, we have regular visitors including deer, wild turkeys, hawks (and doves!), hummingbirds, rabbits and lizards. Feel free to hike our 20 acres or walk up the road for breathtaking views.

$70 per person per weekday night (Sun-Thurs), single or double occupancy guaranteed for first 6 people. $95 per person per weekend night (Fri-Sat) and holidays.

Group discount rates available for 12 or more. Just ask!

You will have entire house and hot tub to yourselves!

Cleaning fee is $275 flat fee (not per night), $300 for groups of 15 guests or more.

Your host, Stuart lives in a guest house apartment across the driveway in a separate building on the premises.

About Stuart Zimmerman

A reformed and retired money manager in the stock market, I am focused on the kind of wealth that money can't buy. I have co-authored a book, 'Inner Security & Infinite Wealth: Merging Self Worth and Net Worth,' hosted a Sirius satellite radio show for three years, 'Inside Wealth', and created a short form business video series, 'Inner Espresso.'

I am now co-hosting a TV talk show in Santa Barbara called 'Get Conscious Now.'

I grew up in Long Island (New York), went to college at Cornell U. and received an MBA in Finance from Northeastern U.

I have a total of 5 children, with my 16 year old son living with me full time in a guest house on the property.

Stuart Zimmerman purchased this estate in 2002

Why Stuart Zimmerman chose San Francisco Bay Area

I moved from the 'high rent district' of Tiburon, CA with Golden Gate Bridge views because the land called me. The peace and quiet, the nature and wildlife, the valley views, the full moon nights that are so bright that the trees cast shadows... it all called me away from the 'rat race.'

As Lily Tomlin said, 'The problem with the rat race is, that even if you win, you're still a rat!' (big smile!)

I have hosted many beautiful, heart-opening non-denominational, community gatherings and ceremonies inside the house and outside on the grounds. Many of our guests can viscerally feel the warm, inviting energies upon entering the property as if they were present in those past events.

What makes this estate unique

I love the Mediterranean architecture, the tiled roof and breezeway leading to the front door. The property has so many activity and quiet zones - from tennis court to hot tub, from the courtyard with water fountain flowing to bench with views of Mt. Diablo - its versatility accommodates any mood and recreational interest for me.

And the house and property is so spacious that it's the perfect venue for larger gatherings, retreats and reunions. I've had so many parties here.. and have hosted so many guests here who have had amazing experiences here... this place truly is magical!

TLC Needed

  • 2 of 5

I rented the home for two nights with my friend, her son and daughter-in-law, and my daughter and her friends. The house was near enough to Calistoga for us to run in the Napa half-marathon, but far enough away to enjoy quiet family time. In that regard the house worked for us.

My concern began when we drove up the hill to the property and saw the For Sale sign. I understand that owners often rent property while the house is on the market, but we didn't expect the house to be in need of some basic maintenance and TLC. The pictures on the website are not completely accurate. Much of the artwork has been taken down with only the hooks remaining. Furniture has changed. While the carpeting had been vacuumed, there was little evidence that the exterior had been cleaned in awhile. There were cigarette butts on the patio and no one in our group smokes. The hot tub and pool had not been cleaned in some time, and it was more than just iron in the water. The pool and hot tub need to be scrubbed and chemicals added to the hot tub. No, I did not call Stuart. These were not issues that could be resolved quickly so we chose to sit on the patio and enjoy the peace and quiet.

We wanted a quiet spot to enjoy family and that we did. I'm sure the house could be used by a much larger group and it would be enjoyable, though be careful with the plumbing. There were only 6 of us and twice we had problems with a toilet. Helpful need to bring your own hair dryer; a few condiments were provided and that was helpful, but there are no sharp knives for cooking; large TV in one room if you are interested.

Owner's Response: I am sorry to hear that you felt let down by the condition of our property. The hot tub could have been quickly remedied had you let me know. And we would have immediately addressed any plumbing issues as well. The swimming pool is off season this time of year, so its maintenance is every other week rather than weekly as it is during the summer. Yes, a big piece of artwork was just purchased by a guest, and a new one will be taking its place. The furniture is actually newer and upgraded from what you saw in the photos, as has the refrigerator, stove and dish washer. We also have a hair dryer for guest use that is in one of the hall closets. We care very much about our guests' enjoyment of our property, which we believe is reflected in many of our (recent) stellar reviews. And we encourage all of our guests to contact me real time with any issues or concerns that arise.

Amazing Weekend in Wine Country

  • 5 of 5

This location is incredible. It is out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Napa but still an easy trip to all of the best vineyards. The property manager was extremely polite and professional, and the house was spotless when we arrived. The views, hot tub, and layout of the location provided an incredible weekend trip for my wife and our friends. We'll certainly be coming back here soon!

Amazing Big Group Wine Weekend Spot

  • 5 of 5

I recently had a group of 16 people stay at the property for a weekend. We had plenty of space for additional people as well.

The pool was awesome, along with the hot tub. We were even able to get in a game or two of tennis. Stuart, was super responsive and very accommodating. He allowed us to stay a bit after check out on Sunday so we could enjoy the pool a little longer.

I'd highly recommend this house. I'll definitely be back.

Excellent group location!

  • 5 of 5

This estate was an amazing place to hold a retreat for our small company. The great room is full of light and has plenty of seating. The kitchen is large and is easy to serve big quantities out of, and the second fridge was a great help. The area is calm and beautiful. I also appreciated how close it is to shopping (for food resupply) while feeling quiet and peaceful. Stuart was great to work with. Come prepared with oil, pepper, etc., as the kitchen it quite bare.
