Oceanfront Two Bedroom 6th floor Penthouse with private corner location
Relax and enjoy your Maui vacation in our 6th floor Penthouse suite at Sugar Beach Resort. With a location on the southern end of the building, the condo is quiet and private.
The ocean views are stunning, to the south you look down the coastline toward the Kihei and Wailea resort areas, directly in front is the deserted isle of Kaaholawe, and off to the north are the Pali cliffs and the Maalaea Harbor. Of course, the sunsets every night are a magical time.
The spacious double lanai brings the ocean into the living and dining areas of the condo! Open the lanai doors and enjoy the fresh ocean breezes or close the doors and relax in the central air conditioning.
With no one above you and no one to the left, the condo is marvelously quiet and peaceful. You can prepare your meals in the condo or get take out from the little 'Sandwitch' restaurant found on site downstairs, or visit one of the many restaurants found just minutes away in the Kihei/Wailea areas.
There are two master suites, both offering comfortable King size beds. Both have their own private bathrooms.
There is a washer/dryer within the condo, and the kitchen is well stocked for meal preparation.
The resort has a secured pool area and hot tub, you will receive the code when you check in at the on-site registration desk. Within the complex there is an activities desk to help you make plans to explore the island.
If you are hungry or thirsty, there is a small, but delicious, 'Sandwitch' restaurant/bar just next to the activities center.
There is ample parking in the large open lot and there are two elevators that provide access to all floors. There are even shopping carts near the elevators to help you get your belongings or groceries up to the condo.
Sugar Beach Resort is centrally located in Maui, just about 20 minutes from the airport, only 10 minutes to Kihei and Wailea, and about 40 minutes over to Lahaina town.
The beach in front of the condo stretches for miles in both directions, an early morning walk to check out the tide pools in the Maalaea direction is always a winner for those visitors waking up early with the time difference.
Our Penthouse condo is a lovely relaxing environment to call home while you are visiting the island of Maui.
Important Notice: Commencing in 2018 and every year thereafter, the Sugar Beach Resort pool and deck will be closed beginning the second Monday in September for one week for routine maintenance. Ask about our pool closure discount when making your reservation.

Very nice and comfortable; on the beach with great view from the balcony (lanai)
My wife and I were here from Nov 5 - 15, 2017. Comfortable 2 BR apartment, with complete kitchen (only thing missing was a large cookie sheet to bring things to-from the downstairs BBQ), sufficient dishes/pots/pans, etc. Clean and tidy on arrival. Has adequate towels, beach chairs, patio furniture. Both diswasher and clothes washer/dryer worked well. Pool in complex was quite adequate. Really enjoyed walking up the beach (~1.8 miles 1-way) to watch the fisherman in the morning. Both the proximal sandwich/soup shop and massage spa were good. In short, overall great value. Would definitely stay at both this complex, and in this apartment, again. Lastly, Jean Amana was easy to deal with, and helpful. Thank you.

Great Property....but needs some improvements
This is our second visit to Maui and specifically to Sugar Beach Resort. The location in my opinion is ideal as it's central to most places we visit. I would always recommend Sugar Beach Resort as a great place to stay.
With regard to Penthouse 40; this is a great unit, but it needs some upgrades and improvements in order to justify the cost.
* In one of the bedrooms the wallpaper was peeling off the wall. If this were a typical hotel/motel, I would have asked for another room as this would not be acceptable.
* The carpets needed to be cleaned and there were stains on it by the washer/dryer.
* The place could use an entire paint job as the walls and doors were pretty marked up.
* There were plenty of kitchen gadgets and utensils, but a couple of the frying pans had the Teflon peeling off them. That stuff is carcinogenic and shouldn't be used.
* The living room furniture is old and worn out. It also didn't smell very nice. They need to update the furniture.
There are plenty of units available at Sugar Beach and until such time as the owners make some upgrades to this unit, I would suggest you find another unit in the complex. This unit, is certainly not worth what is being charged.
On a positive note, Jean Amano was absolutely wonderful to work with. She is a very professional and helpful.
Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts on your visit Richard. The owners take comments very seriously and visited the condo to review the items of concern. The inches of peeling wallpaper has been re-glued to the wall. The carpets are cleaned on a regular basis but the heavy traffic area (especially by the washer/dryer) seem to be especially susceptible to frequent staining. The carpet has been cleaned again. The entire condo (doors and wallpaper excluded) was repainted a couple of months ago...the owners found a couple of smudges on the walls that they easily removed with a damp cloth. They found a frying pan with some scratches but have replaced the cookware with a new set. Yes, they did agree that the living room furniture could use a fresh look. They are shopping for new furniture. The managing agent would have been able to resolve most of these concerns during your visit. Thank you again for your comments. Our parents rented this unit for our two families with two infant children. We had a wonderful vacation. Perfect rooms for two sets of families each with our own bathrooms. The view was incredible and we spent a lot of time enjoying it. We loved the pool and spent hours meeting other parents our age and the small pool was great for young children. It was clean and comfortable and everything we needed was there. Can't wait to return.

Penthouse 40 was a perfect place to stay in Maui!
Penthouse 40 is a great place to stay in Maui! It was perfect for our family with plenty of room and the balcony has such a beautiful view from it! The photos that are on the VRBO were accurate and we were very happy with our stay. Very clean and well maintained. The beach on the property and the pool were so nice. There is a activity center on property called Maui, Sights & Treasures which helped us to book a boat excursion called Ocean Riders Adventure rafting to Lanai which was the best part of our trip. we would definitely stay here again and would recommend this property to friends and family.

Best place to rent for two couples!
We had the most amazing time staying in PH 40. It felt like home, it was cozy and we had everything we needed. We loved sitting on the lanai watching the waves and the people. We definitely want to return next year. Whoever manages it does a wonderful job. Seven days was not long enough!

Additional information about rental rates
Our General Excise Tax ID number is TA-089-294-8408-01. State of Hawaii taxes of 14.416% will be added to all rates quoted. Rates are based upon four (4) person maximum occupancy. A departure cleaning fee of $150.00 plus State of Hawaii taxes will be added for stays of less than 7 nights. A $100.00 security/damage deposit is charged with the rental but is refundable within 14 days if there is no damage or excessive cleaning required. We require a 20% reservation deposit along with an executed rental agreement to reserve the condo. Full payment of the remaining amount is due 60 days prior to arrival. We will send you a reminder to make the payment. Reservations within 60 days of arrival require full payment with the signed rental agreement. We accept credit/debit card payments through Paypal, money orders and also personal or cashier’s checks. Rates are subject to change until reservation is confirmed. Check in time is 3:00 p.m. Check out time is 11:00 a.m. If we may answer any questions for you, we can be reached at (808) 242-4955, M-F from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Hawaii standard time. We are closed on most major holidays.
