About the property

Private beach-front villa, 2 lovely bedroom suites, sunset views, with a/c

The house is located on the sunset side about midway up the island, toward the north end, in Pigeon Cay. Large open vaulted ceiling great room, kitchen with all amenities, air conditioned and with ceiling fans throughout. Two bed-bath suites feature custom glass tile work and French doors leading to shady sea-side veranda. Stone patio overlooking the beach and sunset views. Sea kayaks & snorkeling equipment included. Local island manager-concierge will smooth your stay.

Comfort and Relaxation is what you'll find at the Beach House. All the comforts but none of the distractions of home. A wide shady veranda with hammock overlooking the sea, visiting birds and geckos, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, pristine white sand beaches to walk.... commune with nature at her most beautiful. Read, paint, fish, relax, and rejuvenate.

Two queen sized bedroom/bathroom suites, one on either side of the great room, provide comfort and privacy. A fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, and an on-island manager will make your stay relaxed and easy.

Two sea kayaks complete with gear are there for your adventuring. Paddle south and explore the coral caves and meet the Osprey or venture north to Alligator Point and fish for Nassau grouper for dinner.

The western side of Cat Island is wild and deserted. A reef keeps the heavy waves out, and there is wonderful snorkeling in the clear deep waters. Follow the sea turtles, fish for snapper, poke among the flotsam for treasures, watch the sea birds, sketch the dunes and palm trees, read under your beach umbrella. There's always a cooling wind on the west side.

About Susan Weber

My brother found this place while visiting an old high school friend. He fell in love with the leisurely pace, the open friendly islanders, the world-class snorkeling and diving, and the unspoiled nature of Cat Island. We built this house on the rocks just steps above the pristine sandy and mostly deserted beach, looking west into the sunset. We visit as often as we can. The more we learn about Cat Island, the more we love it!

Susan Weber purchased this house in 2005

Why Susan Weber chose Cat Island

Pigeon Cay beach is the most beautiful, pristine and secluded beach on the island. Pigeon Cay is a small community of mostly US off-island owners who, like us, are here only a few weeks a year. We rent to keep our island paradise.

The house is well designed and equipped for the tropical climate: the shady veranda across the entire front of the house, open concept, ceiling fans throughout, vaulted ceilings, French doors and cross ventilation in every room, make even the warmest days delicious. New air conditioning makes even Bahamas summers cool and comfy. The swimming off our pristine sandy beach is perfect. Gin-clear waters, pink powder sand.

The Sunset Lookout is the perfect place to enjoy a rum or a Kalik while you watch the spectacular nightly sunset show and yearn for that illusive 'green flash'.

Our central location makes us the perfect place for exploratory travels. Mornings are great for hikes to the old Anglican church and ancient cemetery, the 'shopping center' for ice cream sandwiches and 'cheddaire', or north to Alligator Point for the bold and athletic.

Hop in your car and explore the west side of Cat Island, its many deserted beaches and coves, the Hermitage known throughout the Bahamas as its highest point, the local eateries and bars, the gorgeous north end. Check out the black holes and the caves where islanders hid when pirates came looking for captives.

The place is interesting, laid back and comfortable. You'll see why so many of us from the states eventually migrate here.

What makes this house unique

Comfortable without being luxurious; simple without being basic; our Cat Island Beach House will charm you with its private natural surroundings, peaceful ambiance, and lovely views, day or night. The stars will dazzle you! All the comforts of home but none of the demands. Relax and sink into the island experience.

Great location to chill at the beach

  • 4 of 5

The owner Susan W went out of her way to be sure we had an easy arrival and enjoyable visit. The headline "private beach front Villa" says it all! Cat Island is the Caribbean 30-50 years ago, in a nice way. The beaches are first rate and uncrowded, the locals are genuinely nice people who are happy your are visiting and are very welcoming. This is a rural Island, rare, not for the resort seeker but perfect for those looking to get away from hustle of modern life.

We will be back!

Comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house for 9 days and absolutely loved it! It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Danny, the property manager, was incredible- so kind, very helpful and an absolute joy to deal wiith. The little beach out front is beautiful and relatively private as there are only 3 other houses on it, yet a 5 minute walk away is beautiful Pigeon Cay beach where you can walk for ages. It is super easy to get into the ocean out front and it is shallow and sandy, good for young and old alike. We loved hanging out reading on the front porch in those big green chairs and the ceiling fans came in very handy when the no see-ums appeared. The kayaks were a nice addition and the snorkelling equipment ws a great bonus too. All in all, a great place. My only negative comment, and it is pretty minor, regards the kitchen knives- all were very dull. If this is the kind of thing that bothers you, just be sure to bring one from home. I would definitely stay here again in a heart beat. The owner is a dream to deal with as well, super helpful and very responsive.

Owner's Response: Carolyn, thanks so much for the great review, and I am glad you enjoyed the house. We love it there, too. Dull knives are the bane of my kitchen existence as well, so there is a knife sharpener in the utensils drawer. Sorry you didn't see it! I sharpen the buggers every time I am there! Fondly, Susan W

Perfect spot on a lovely, private beach!

  • 4 of 5

The only negative on the house was no WiFi, which will soon be fixed. The house is so comfie for two couples. Kitchen has all the utensils you need. We ate out for lunch and cooked in for dinner. Kayaking and swimming highly recommended! Be prepared for sandflies when the wind drops off.

Perfect Beach Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Just down the stone steps is the finest salt water private swimming pool(Caribbean). The week we were there three of the neighboring properties were occupied however we almost never saw them. We had morning and afternoon tea on the stone patio without a soul in sight. If your desire is to escape the masses this is the place. The beaches on Cat Island are incredible. The home itself is clean and well maintained with everything one needs. Ceiling fans allow you to be comfortable with the doors open at night so that you can sleep with the sounds of the surf. Our local host was most gracious and always available for questions . We took the owner's advice and had lunch out and made dinner at home for the most part. Lunch at Shanas Beach Cove on the North end and Fernandez Bay on the South end both with great food and incredible views. We had read a review regarding driving at night and narrow roads, turns out to be true but no bother. Dinner at Fernandez Bay didn't begin until just at sunset so we were late returning home without an issue. There are well stocked grocery stores at each end and a liquor store in New Bight with most of one's desires.

To sum it up we had a great time.

This lovely house which we occupied for one week was perfect because of what it did NOT have: no television, no ringing phones, limited WIFI, no noisy streets, no boisterous neighbors - only the bliss of nature “close up and personal.” The sea was but 100 feet outside our door, the sky and water was (almost) consistently blue, the sand pure white, and the sound of the waves, a perfect backdrop for enjoying LIFE!

What the house DID provide, as listed, was a clean, well-appointed kitchen, two excellent, colorful bedrooms and two bathrooms, a good layout for maintaining privacy, a wonderful veranda, and excellent service provided by Danny. The island itself has some interesting small restaurants where you can meet native Bahanians and also hear wonderful Rake ‘n Scrape music. We especially enjoyed Julian’s “Da Smoke Pot.” The restaurants are so uncrowded that you don’t need a reservation, you just need to call and tell them what you want to eat so they can be ready for you. Driving to and fro at night is also very easy and not scary at all (even though they drive on the left side of the road in Bahamas) as you have the road almost all to yourself!

We have already recommended this beach house to friends who love nature and don’t mind an occasional bug or giant moth, are interested in taking advantage of the water and snorkeling/diving or enjoy hiking to various points to see the great views. The afternoon we walked up Mt Alvernia to see Father Jerome’s “Hermitage” (a tiny one-monk monastery) was an especially thrilling experience. Beer is more expensive here but rum is cheap!

great Villa..fantastic beach....complete solitide

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I dpent 9 days ag the villa. Nice large only thing we needed was a blender. Danny the caretaker was a charm. we norrowed his magic bullet. Beautiful beach no one but us in 9 days..lovely people at the stores and resturants..favorite was Julian at Da Smoke Pot...a true sweetheart. Great food and entertainment rake scrape music and everyone joins in the music and dancing. Yardies was great for lunch. Loved the villa and island. Rented a car for the whole time ...needed it to get food and dinners . Resturants are not marked well and are far away. My only complaint. Its dark and roads have huge holes in them. We eat out on vacation every night scarey rides returning home after dinner and drinks. We loved the island, beach at villla and the villa but where the resturants are at least 1/2 hour away we will not return. Just need clser better quality food.

Owner's Response: Rather than dine out for dinner, we often have our larger meal mid-day while we are adventuring around the island. Then a light meal for dinner on the veranda watching the amazing sunset is all we need. Cat Island is a bit third world..the restaurants are few and home-style. No Appleby's here!

We are on the island's most beautiful, quiet and private beach, Pigeon Cay, on the leeward side of this secluded interesting island. There are blue holes, ruined plantations, ancient slave cottages, pirate caves, and hermit hideouts to explore. Tasty local fare includes conch fritters, Nassau grouper, and lobster in season. Great beach combing, shelling and bird watching opportunities abound. Meet friendly locals, purchase traditional straw crafts, enjoy gorgeous birds and snorkeling, and more.

Explore secluded beaches and coves, snorkel the reefs and coral formations for turtles and sea creatures, hunt for wild orchids in the bush, fish for grouper and red snapper for supper.

Cat Island's pace is relaxed, its people reserved and gracious, its climate moderate with gentle breezes and warm sun most of the time. It's the perfect quiet get-away spot. Tired of the rat-race, the hustle and demands of daily life? Here's the place to relax and find yourself again.
