We had a incredibly wonderful week when we rented the two houses next to each other on West Cliff Drive as an amalgam of the bride and groom's families (occupants aged 8-85) who became well acquainted before the grand event. Both properties were clean and prepared for our arrival. The photos reflect the beauty of the natural surroundings as well as the gracious inner spaces. Being able to accommodate a large group in houses so close to each other was a big plus for us. When we weren't visiting at the large table following a homemade meal, we were out on the boardwalk to explore the beaches and cliffs. Hibernating butterflies at Lighthouse Field, enormous waves, tidal pools, a hike at Big Basin, the Farmer's Market and shopping kept us busy. Everyone left expressing the desire for a return visit. Thank you for a marvelous time in Santa Cruz.

Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Easter in Santa Cruz

Our family spent four wonderful days in Santa Cruz for the Easter weekend - the weather was not perfect, but the ambiance was. The home had enough beds and bathrooms for all. We would definitely recommend this home for a large family.

We had a great time at this Santa Cruz house. Plenty of parking and far enough from the boardwalk to get some peace and quiet but close enough to have fun nearby.

Above Expectations

We were doing work for the NFL Tailgate party for Super Bowl 50. There were plenty of beds and pull out couches for everyone. The 5 showers were also a huge plus!

The view was spectacular, along with great walking paths!

There are a lot of great Seafood restaurants, a short 1.5 mile walk away.

I would definitely recommend this home to a large group of people.

Beautiful location but...

Location-wise, the house is perfect: great view of the ocean and easy 20-minute walk to the pier. My extended family and I rented it for a family reunion over the holidays, and the dishwasher broke almost immediately -- flooded the kitchen with water to the point that we stopped it and did everything by hand. This would have been fine for a day, but despite telling the management company about it several times, it was never fixed. 9 people in the house plus friends and family coming over for dinners meant a ton of time spent washing dishes and money spent on paper towels -- the few towels provided in the house weren't enough to dry the breakfast or dinner load each morning and night. We were given a $300 refund at the end, but I think it should have been more -- it was just a huge inconvenience to have to deal with on our vacation. These things happen and it's usually no problem. Just bad that despite several calls and emails, our issue was never fixed. One other note -- the back bedroom upstairs, while it has a beautiful view from the deck, was super cold at night. We bought a space heater and it was fine. The other rooms had individual heating vents and had no problem.

Owner's Response: On behalf of the owner, we are very sorry your family vacation was hindered by the dishwasher problem! The dishwasher worked perfectly for the Christmas week guests, and it’s unfortunate that if failed over the New Year’s weekend. This reviewer may not know that the Property Manager was in communication with the family reunion organizer (KC) each day. A plumber was dispatched right away, and he assessed that an appliance company and part was needed to fix the problem. This property manager made every effort to mobilize an appliance repair company, but no appointments were available during your New Year’s stay. The family reunion organizer was given a couple of choices to compensate for the inconvenience, and the refund you mentioned above is what she chose. Regarding the corner bedroom heat source, there is a vent in the floor by the sliding glass door which is part of the central heating system, and we are investigating why this room needed supplemental heat.

Wonderful beach house

Good location, in the middle of all the beach hses on W. Cliff Dr. No 2 houses look alike. Exterior color of this house is different from all the other houses. So clean inside, 5 bedtooms w/ 5 bathrooms, large formal dining room, living room & kitchen. Large patio where you can enjoy BBQ there. Standing by the front windows, especially on the balcony, you can see dolphins & whales jumping in the Pacific Oceans, and the waves bumping on the rocks creating a natural beauty. Redwood State Park, Boardwalk Amusement Park & restaurants w/ reasonable prices are in short distances from this house. Weather was gorgeous. It's really a good place for family reunion or good friends gatherings. I bet you 'll enjoy it as we did.

Disappointed

Carefully review the rooms and set up. The room with the full size bed is in the middle of the house on the main level. It has no windows, a closet with shelves in it and an armoire. This means no ventilation. The room with two couches, also one listed with beds, is a pass through room to the room on the back of the house. Essentially this means there are four actual bedrooms, one that is small and without ventilation.

Upon arrival on a Sunday the recycling trash can was overflowing and the other trash can was half full. The stench from something in the recycling trash smelled of a dead decaying corpse. It was so bad that we could not keep the windows open during a very hot week in Santa Cruz, nor could we use the enclosed patio and barbeque area. Though we notified management of the problem upon arrival, the problem was never addressed. We dutifully put the trash out for pick up on Thursday but the stench still existed when we left on Friday. We had to take several trash bags full of recyclables and trash with us that we could not fit in the containers for regular pick up and did not want to get charged extra after paying A LOT for 5 nights nor leave the burden on those coming in behind us.

Watch the check out time carefully. The cleaning crew showed up at 9 AM, even though we expected to be checking out promptly as very strongly worded in the contract at 10 AM. We basically had to throw our belongings in our vehicle unpacked to get out of the way of the cleaning crew.

Greg, we shared more than a dozen phone conversations and emails as you planned this reunion last December, and you had very specific questions about the layout and the room details then… so I’m surprised that your expectation fell short. Readers should also know this reviewer has exaggerated in a couple of areas. Prospective guests, our check-out time is 11am. During the summer months when we have back-to-back guests, our excellent housekeeping team needs the full 11am-4pm timeframe to thoroughly clean this large house and change the linens. During peak season, the housekeeping team will arrive a few minutes early to start cleaning the courtyard and start a load of laundry. Our guests do not need to leave any earlier than 11am.
