About Greg and Carole Higgins

Dear Visitors & Guests- Thank you for choosing the Cottages On Suttons Bay for your Up-North get away. In early 2013, the Houston family acquired this property from the former Suttons Bay Cottages owners. The Houston family saw it as a very special property on Suttons Bay which can and will become even better. We have all put a lot of work & upgrades into the main cottage and started in on the cabins. In 2015 we added the beautiful deck you see in the photos – we just didn’t feel that we could let that view go to waste! We also added a beautiful natural knotty-pine cathedral ceiling and “nautical” light fixtures actually salvaged from sea-going vessels. In 2016 we upgraded the electrical service and added air conditioning. We will be working hard throughout the summer and the rest of the year to effect even more improvements. Summer 2017 should be a banner year for us so we hope you will consider coming back to visit us again next year when you will be able to see our progress. We would love to hear your feedback and if there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable please let us know. Warmest Regards - The Houston Family, The Proprietors Carole & Greg Higgins Cygnus Real Estate The Property Managers

Beautiful views and a couple of blocks from downtown Suttons Bay restaurants...

  • 4 of 5

Good:

-Great views of Suttons Bay!

-Good Parking

-Nice Deck Area

-A/C was very nice to have since we were in the high 80's and one day above 90.

-No insect issues at all even at night.

-Nice Grill

Bad:

-Park bathrooms are located right next to (feet away) the fire pit and sand area at shared dock - depending on wind speed in direction the smell was hard to deal with.

-The dock is very wobbly and doubtful that a boat could be docked at it...

-Bathroom and Kitchen were not clean - had to basically clean both areas before use...

Perfect cottage on Suttons Bay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and two kids (age 8 and 10) spent a week at this cottage and enjoyed every minute. We had friends and family who rented a larger house nearby, and it was fantastic to have our own little private getaway. It was serene and lovely and everything you need for a week in a cottage. The master bed (queen) was comfortable, a big thing for me. The kids slept on twin bunk beds. The kitchen was well equipped including mini dishwasher. There is also a fold out sofa but we were happy to have private bedrooms and a common living space. The fire pit area is perfect and so nice for long evenings under the stars. The public beach is right next door with a large sandy beach. You can walk to everything in town. The property manager Carole Higgins was so helpful. Every request or issue was addressed promptly and she was truly kind. We will be back.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

This was my second year staying at The Cottages on Suttons Bay and, just like last year, it was perfect. Gregg and Carole go out of their way to make staying there feel like home. I bring my small dog with me and she loves being there just as much as I do. The sunrises from the patio are spectacular.....my friends back home were inundated with photos on a daily basis. I will probably makes this an annual vacation getaway for me and my dog.

Cozy cottage with cachet and view

  • 5 of 5

Our experience at this waterfront cottage was absolutely delightful. Perfectly located, close to downtown and close to a multitude of beautiful sights. In addition to the lake, large trees on the property bring beauty right to the door. The sunrise on the lake is not too shabby either! The cottage was clean. Our fall visit was the best with the changing colors. The house was quick to heat up when the weather got colder in the evening. Carol was super nice and helpful.

I found that the issues reported on some of the reviews were no longer issues: The curtains are there except in the kitchen at the moment. The kitchen is well stacked (dishes, pots and pans, all that we needed and more, including some spices). The beds are very comfy and the linen/ towels look like new. We appreciated the park next door which added to the space available to us. I highly recommend this place.

Wouldn't Go Back

  • 1 of 5

On the plus side, the mattresses were comfortable, the towels were nice and the flat screen tv was a plus as well. The cottage is cute though very small. The kitchen was equipped okay but could have used a bit more thought. There is no dishwasher. There are no blinds on the back door facing the public beach or on the kitchen window which directly looks at the house next door. We found the lack of privacy uncomfortable. When we asked the manager if these could be provided we were told that the owners didn't want them there and that most people liked the lake. Huh? Realizing we were a bit displeased they were gracious enough to give us a gift certificate to a lovely local restaurant. The public beach, which is not shown in any of the photos, is RIGHT next store to the cottage. The public restrooms for the public beach are directly in line of sight to this cottage. We would have liked to know how close this really is to the cottage. The private beach area is very small and was kind of dirty at the time we were there. The area, however, is lovely and this is a part of Michigan worth visiting.

Owner's Response: We are pleased to mention that a blind has been installed in the kitchen and a dishwasher has been added. Also, the kitchen is slowly getting a make over- new cabinets so far. New stone countertops get installed in the fall and the bathroom gets a make over this winter with a little bit of luck. I am sorry that Lezli did not enjoy her stay but we did take her comments to heart and although change is slow we are working on it

Two BR cottage

  • 1 of 5

Rather dirty and bunk beds are too small for an adult and there is really no beach that is usable too close to a park that seems to collect some shady people

I will never go back

And it is NOT a two bedroom.
