About Dale

Our property was passed down by my parents who always dreamed of having an ocean front home where our family could gather and special memories would be created.

Several years ago, we decided to build a new, open plan home (completed in 2013) on the property and this is the result. It's been fun decorating our home with a few pieces of furniture that have been passed down from one generation to the next.

Enjoy our home and the tranquility of Kapoho!

Dale purchased this house in 1983

Why Dale chose Pahoa

If you are looking for a quiet, oceanfront home to relax, this is it! Create your special memories by coming to our home and enjoying what the Big Island has to offer.

Perfect family get away

  • 5 of 5

The whole family snorkelled twice a day, sometimes for a couple of hours. Daily search for "Teddy" the turtle was challenging, fun, and always rewarding when we found him. House was more than we expected, excellent condition and location. Would love to return to this paradise in the future

Hawaiian Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

This property is 5 star by every measure! Oceanfront private setting for amazing snorkeling(so many fish and turtles), swimming, birdwatching...fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean waves, woke to bird song and sunshine. Quiet, secluded, rarely saw other people in the water.

The house is lovely, pictures do not do it justice. All systems/appliances were new, completely operational, and the home was spotless and well organized. Lots of considerate little extras, such as soaps and cleaning products, insect repellant, snorkel gear, a citronella candle, were much appreciated. The gazebo is clean, comfortable, has lights and electric. We were out there constantly.

Close to Volcano National Park, we hiked at the caldera and also took a lava flow bike/hike at 4:30am. We explored Hilo, Big Island Candies factory store, Thai, Sushi and barbecue restaurants, several farmers markets with extensive local food, produce, crafts.

This home is located on one of the most unspoiled stretches of residential oceanfront. Truly, this is a gem of a rental property. Manager was easy to work with, check out was a breeze.

Snorkeling paradise

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. We have stayed in this area before and this is by far the best location, and the lagoon seems even clearer than our last visit 2 years ago. We snorkeled in the lagoon several times a day and got to know the resident fish and turtles. The house was clean, comfy and had everything we needed. Dale added some nice touches with shampoos and soaps. The lanai was great and was a wonderful place to have morning coffee. Easy drive to Wai Opae, which had beautiful coral and fish, but we really loved snorkeling the lagoon. Mornings were best. Our younger kids loved the private swimming hole in the backyard. It's about 1/2 hour drive to end of 130 where you rent bikes to see the flowing lava (we walked to the surface flow and it was an amazing, not to be missed experience). Dale was very helpful and responsive and even reached out on our arrival day to make sure we arrived. We look forward to returning - this is the perfect snorkeling house!

Paradise in Pahoa

  • 5 of 5

Our family had an amazing vacation at this rental. It was clean, well maintained, spacious and comfortable. It included all the amenities we needed and more! Dale was helpful and answered all of our questions. The best thing about this place though, undoubtedly, is the backyard. We thoroughly enjoyed the lanai, the lagoon, the sea turtles, the beautiful variety of fish, and the peace and relaxation afforded by the location. We snorkeled several times daily, and did not want to leave the house for anything. Our children, aged 5 and 7, swam in the lagoon, snorkeled, collected coconuts, watched geckos, explored the flora and fauna, and lazed in the sun. We all agree this was our best vacation yet. We made memories here that will last us all a lifetime. We hope to return soon!

The Most Amazing Place We've Ever Stayed (and we travel a lot)

  • 5 of 5

There is nothing like this place-- anywhere. We are a family of 4, with two older daughters. We love to travel and explore the outdoors (hiking, running, snorkeling). We much prefer nature and the outdoors to resorts and tourist attractions. We picked this place for the secluded setting and backyard that we fell in love with online. When we arrived, our expectations were MORE than exceeded- they were blown away. Dale was wonderful from the very start, staying in communication with us as we arrived at the place and responded very promptly to any questions. And the place was very clean and comfortable, with everything you need. (I noticed one review commented on the hard beds-- this was not the case for us-- I think he may have added a pillow top to the master bed, as it was quite comfortable). But the real gem of this place is the setting and the backyard. Your own private geothermically heated bay in your backyard. Perfect snorkeling (with sea turtles and a variety of tropical fish!) A private gazebo overlooking the bay to rest and relax, eat meals, etc. The sound of frogs and birds at night as you fall asleep. A gated community with gated entrance- feels very safe and secluded. Nothing compares. It was the perfect location for exploring Hilo and the area north of Hilo, as well as Volcanoes National Park (including biking to the lava flow!) The rainforest and vegetation in this part of the island is outstanding. We stayed in a nice, resort condo in the Kohala area after staying at Dale's wonderful place, and it was like culture shock for us. From relaxed and one with nature to the "artificial" Hawaii. If we knew that when we made our plans we would have stayed at Dale's home longer! If you want to be near the touristy stuff or fine dining to eat out every night, this is not your place. But if you love nature and want to experience real Hawaii, this place is perfect! We will definitely come back if we get to visit Hawaii again.
