About Dale

Our property was passed down by my parents who always dreamed of having an ocean front home where our family could gather and special memories would be created.

Several years ago, we decided to build a new, open plan home (completed in 2013) on the property and this is the result. It's been fun decorating our home with a few pieces of furniture that have been passed down from one generation to the next.

Enjoy our home and the tranquility of Kapoho!

Dale purchased this house in 1983

Why Dale chose Pahoa

Dale was great to work with! The home is beautiful & grounds are immaculate. She had snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach towels, extra yard chairs, bbq. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Snorkeling was right off the back deck where plenty of fish and turtles were swimming. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough good things about our stay! We are already making plans to come back. Nothing beats waking up in the morning to a beautiful view. Swimming in your own paradise with the resident turtles and fish was awesome. It was so relaxing. We did many day trips from here and were amazed by the diversity the island offers. Dale was a very accommodating host. The house had everything one would need to feel at home. Thank you for the great stay, we will be back!

We love staying in this home. Great directions to get in and an easy drive from Hilo. The house was super clean and very new. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals. We left a few extra ice cube trays :) The snorkeling was second to none. Since this is actually a hot spring meeting the ocean, the water was nice and warm but swim in a straight line or the water gets blurry and hard to see. We saw a bunch of turtles and too many different fish to count. Many of the neighbors were rental properties too and we enjoyed chatting with them. Beautiful neighborhood! I wouldn't change a thing!

Geothermally heated paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a fantastic stay in Kapoho! We loved snorkeling with the turtles, crabs, and tropical fish right out the backdoor in a breakwater-protected, brackish cove heated by jets of Kilauea-heated spring water. The feel is very secluded but still only a 15 minute drive to groceries and a handful of restaurants in Pahoa town. Hilo has many more restaurants, pretty parks, and spectacular bay views around 40 minutes away. The gushing fire hose of lava pouring into the ocean in Kalapana (Feb 2017) is about 30 minutes away. Everything is super lush and green and tropical, being on the Hilo/windward side of the island. The beds are comfortable and the home's finishes pretty and utilitarian (tile, granite counters, nice composite decks).

Be sure to follow key pick up instructions through the HomeAway website as the iOS app doesn't show attachments.

Our only complaint was the small Weber grill was missing its ash catcher/damper, which makes a charcoal fire hard to control. A gas grill would be much easier and reduce trips to town for charcoal. Second best would be a new ash catcher and a chimney coal starter to avoid yucky lighter fluid.

We will definitely be staying in this property again on our next trip to our new favorite island!

Our 10 day visit in January 2017 was our second visit to this property. The setting is of course beautiful and the house very well appointed and equipped. Snorkeling and other water devices have been added since our last visit and that was very helpful. The gazebo really adds a lot to this rental compared to others in the same neighborhood because it does rain often and the gazebo enables one to relax outdoors whatever the weather. I would recommend this house to anyone--there were only two of us occupying the house so we did not use much of the space--it would be great for families up to 6 persons as there are 3 spacious bedrooms.

A Little Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been happier with our stay. Our host, Dale was accommodating, generous and responsive. The place is just as it is described. The house is clean and orderly and well equipped. Beds were comfortable and the place is nicely decorated. We snorkeled every day in the bay in front of the house and walked the neighborhood enjoying the flowers, birds and weather. In addition to the amazing snorkeling, our biggest adventure was heading down the road to Kalapana and mountain biking out on the lava fields at dawn to watch the lava pour into the sea. Experience of a lifetime! Kapoho is a quiet and more isolated community so it might not be for everyone, but if you are looking for natural beauty, this is the spot. Thank you Dale! We hope to be back many times.
