About Dale

Our property was passed down by my parents who always dreamed of having an ocean front home where our family could gather and special memories would be created.

Several years ago, we decided to build a new, open plan home (completed in 2013) on the property and this is the result. It's been fun decorating our home with a few pieces of furniture that have been passed down from one generation to the next.

Enjoy our home and the tranquility of Kapoho!

Dale purchased this house in 1983

Why Dale chose Kapoho

If you are looking for a quiet, oceanfront home to relax, this is it! Create your special memories by coming to our home and enjoying what the Big Island has to offer.

Lovely Place to stay. Can't wait to return.

  • 5 of 5

House had everything we needed, especially the rice cooker! Used it every day. We were here 10 days, and rained 7 of those days, but we didn't care because we had a lovely house to stay in and had everything we needed. Swimming and snorkeling was awesome. The most fish I have ever seen snorkeling in Hawaii and the water ous warm.

Loved our stay!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is clean, nice, well-equipped, comfortable (including the beds) and Dale is very helpful (perfect for our extended family of 6), but it's really all about the nature in the backyard that makes it incredible (and the beautiful backyard itself is great too).

We snorkeled every day in the warm water (despite the daily rain) and saw lots of amazing fish (there was a bit of an oily type sheen in the water that, from what I read, was caused by waters of different temperatures mixing...the warm water is so great's worth the slight haziness in areas and I don't know if that haziness is there all the time or was only there because it rained so much). We saw honu (turtles) every morning and evening right by the fish pond. My 7 and 9 year old daughters were thrilled! We also went on a great walk from the house looking for the Champagne pond and ended up walking through a lava field that went to the ocean with a little black/green sand area (and saw lots of birds and frogs and cool houses).

It was also a great location to explore the east side of the island. We took a day trip to Hilo/Akaka Falls/Honomu Goat Dairy Farm (if you like baby goats, don't miss this!). We also took a day trip to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (snorkeled in the morning at the house and then went to the volcano in the afternoon/evening) incredible!!

Initially, we flew into Kailua/Kona, stayed on that side a few days, and then drove south to Kona Joe's coffee farm for a tour, then to the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park, then to the Green Sand Beach and then to the house...that was a long, but beautiful drive and a fun adventure. We arrived at the lock box location late to pick up the keys and thought that it was closed, but it's just the business center behind the lock box area that closes early...the lock box area is open 24 hours, so we stressed out and ended up calling Dale for help. Also, be sure to put the gate opener on the front mirror of your car prior to reaching the gate...the sensor is about 12 feet before the actual gate, so if you wait to put the opener on your mirror like we initially did, the gate won't open.

My only complaint is that we couldn't stay longer! Thanks Dale!

Great view

The home was clean and organized. The snorkeling was very special, especially in your front yard. Would definitely recommend this home. Hard to find on a dark night, but well worth the search.

Wonderful rental

  • 5 of 5

This was an absolutely fantastic rental property. We were a group of six adults and found the house to have everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. Beds were comfortable and the living space was great, although we didn't spend much time inside. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. The outside space is where this property really shines. Very quiet neighbourhood and the water access was wonderful. We spent most of our days sitting and enjoying the view and snorkeling. Even for a very nervous/novice snorkeler like me, this was a wonderful spot. We saw many turtles every day and fantastically coloured fish. Loved that one, sometimes two, turtles would spend the night in the "fish pond." Dale was very easy to deal with and was quick to get back to me with any questions I had. It's a 40 minute drive from Hilo, so just be organized and buy your groceries ahead of time so you don't have to leave paradise more often than you want to. I can't wait to come back again--I can't recommend this property highly enough.

Newer House in an Awesome Location

  • 5 of 5

Our group enjoyed staying in this nicely appointed home for 4 nights. I've stayed in the gated Kapoho Beach Lots before at an older property and this time it was nice to stay in a newer modern home. The location is perfect and the cove out back is very safe for swimming. It was easily accessed with steps to walk into and out of the water. We snorkeled most days and while we were here my boys took a private guided trip to see the lava with Kilauea Eco Guides.

The beds were very comfortable, and we all enjoyed hanging out in the gazebo. Also, one of our party spent a lot of time sitting on the back deck of the house reading her book. There was plenty of space to spread out.

I also liked the fact that house was not on catchment water. I would stay here again if I was looking to rent in the area. The house is in a safe and quiet location. Communication with the owner was very pleasant, and they obviously care that you have a good stay.
