'EVERY DAY IS AN ADVENTURE"

Home with private community beach. Nature at her best. Great place to build family memories. We have the best of both worlds: unplug in the country and yet a ferry ride five miles to the Jamestown Fort and city of Williamsburg with its unique amenities, ie: Busch Gardens, Water Country, College of Wm. & Mary, theater, museums, outlet mall shopping. While in the country, you can rest in quiet, play outdoor games, walk to the beach and swim or fish. Water is wonderfully warm. One grandson who lived here with us said "Every Day was an Adventure". We believe that magic is still here.

About Juanita Dulkinys (Owner)

We moved to Virginia from the Midwest. We wanted a place where family and grandchildren would like to visit, and where we would like to retire. We wanted a place on the water. Our children and grandchildren have loved it here. Now we would like to share this lovely place with other kindred spirits. Directly across the River is Jamestown. My husband milled the large timbers from Virginia White Oak for the Jamestown Fort, and the Black Locust totem poles. We like the simple things of life. I love to garden and swim in the river. Don enjoys his boat and a little fishing.

Juanita Dulkinys (Owner) purchased this house in 1986

Why Juanita Dulkinys (Owner) chose Surry

We wanted to purchase a home that we could retire in and one that would be fun for our family to visit and vacation with us. A place where they could really relax. They came and did love it. Some even lived with us for a while. One Grandson said, 'When I lived here every day was an adventure'. We love the quiet simple lifestyle. The house has cozy rooms with pocket doors so there is also privacy for secret conversations between sisters or spouses. There is outside space so people can be together and youngsters can run. See our little video of the James River and our garden.

Wonderful, peaceful, away from it all vacation hom

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful property, just as advertised. Very relaxing. Owners are very attentive to their guest's needs and strive to make sure you feel at home. Our family of 6 adults and 2 children were very comfortable. We felt as though we were staying at a relative's or dear friend's home. It was great to return to Surry after a full day of Williamsburg's hustle and bustle. We definitely recommend Surry Seafood restaurant..steamed shrimp, stuffed shrimp, coconut shrimp, stuffed flounder... everything was delish! We also enjoyed Colonial Pancake House in Williamsburg. The house is very clean and well cared for. The owners live in the home when it is not rented so the kitchen is fully stocked with cookware. More than enough towels we're provided. Very comfortable beds. Perfect "home away from home". Highly recommend!

Wonderful , secluded get away

  • 5 of 5

We arrived and spent a week with our son and his wife and two toddlers in this gem of a property. It is across the James River from Jamestown and Williamsburg, just a free ferry ride away. The ferry runs every 30 minutes and has convinced our 3 1/2 year old he needs to be a ferry driver when he grows up. The home was so comfortable for him that he asked why we couldn’t live here. It gave us the feeling you get when you go to grandma’s house, cozy, comfortable, and loved. You can tell that people make this their home when it is not rented because it has everything you will need, yet they remove things from dressers and closets so you have plenty of storage. The living room has plenty of lighting, two couches, one which is a sleeper couch and 2 comfortable chairs. The bedrooms were upstairs, a master with queen bed and master bath with shower. A bath with bathtub in the hallway and two more bedrooms, one with a trundle bed which looked to be double sized beds. The third room with a queen bed and a twin bed. There was a sun room off the living room and a deck just outside of it with a table ,chairs and grill. There was a dining room. The kitchen was fully supplied with dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, pots and pans, dishwasher, range and refrigerator and coffee pot. There was a dining table in the kitchen. Off the kitchen is a pantry next to a laundry room and bathroom with shower. The property is full of trees, landscaped with lovely flowers. The beach is accessible by a driveway and is behind trees in the backyard. It is so nice to have a place to rest and recharge after a day of siteseeing where there is more than a bed. We loved being here and would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting the area.

Charming home nestled in a beautiful country setting with a private beach!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't say enough about the charm, privacy, accommodations, and location of this home. It fit all of my families needs. There was plenty of room for the 7 of us, which included 5 kids ages 9-19. Juanita was more than helpful and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was not only comfortable, but she provided an abundance of information regarding the area.

Prior to our stay, Juanita sent an email full of information about the ferry, local grocery stores, restaurants, traveling options to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown, Busch Gardens, and more. The same information was present in the house in a neatly organized binder. The house was exceptionally clean upon arrival, and is one of the first homes we've stayed in that provided house towels and bed linens, which made our packing that much easier. Paper products and laundry/dishwashing detergent were also provided. When you travel with a large family like mine, having all these added benefits makes a tremendous difference.

The private beach was just a short walk down the road, and you could also drive your car down to it. The setting was peaceful and relaxing. The private beach is shared by a couple other homes on the road, but each time we visited the beach we were the only ones there.

All the attractions - Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens, etc - were a short ferry ride across the James River. The schedule was very easy to follow, so we were able to plan our day trips accordingly. The traffic was minimal throughout our trip. We love exploring and site seeing, and there was more than enough in the area to satisfy our curiosity. We could have stayed another week, and even then wouldn't have been able to see everything.

Juanita is such a lovely person and she made us feel so welcomed. I would highly recommend staying here, and we would love to plan a trip back.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for our family as we took in the sights by day and spent the evenings relaxing on the back deck, grilling steaks and spending time with some of our favorite cousins. Quiet, secluded, and very well furnished, it was literally, our home away from home. We all agreed that we would stay here again. Thank you so much for contributing to a fantastic week.

Very pleasant home. Owners were extremely helpful and workable.

  • 4 of 5

The home was cozy and inviting. It accommodates our family very well. I loved the smell of the wood stove in the kitchen even though it was not in use during this time of year. That scent brought back a lot of good memories for me. Very quite and beautiful setting. make sure you have everything you need before coming across on the ferry since not many stores on this side of the river. The beds were not the most comfortable but the sheets were very clean as well as the entire house. Very good housekeeping. We will probably come back here again.

Owner's Response: While I too prefer shopping in Williamsburg,,I just want to clarify that there are two large chain food stores and several restaurants in Smithfield VA which is on the our side of the James Rive and is only 20 minutes away.

An absolutely lovely home for our family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property for a family vacation with my cousin and his family. We were four adults and three teenage girls. There was more than enough room and space for everyone. The bedrooms are spacious and well-furnished and the beds are comfortable. The home itself is just gorgeous.....charming and cozy and so inviting at the end of a long day of sight-seeing. We loved it there. We hated to leave! It's so obvious that this is a real family home, lovingly cared for by the owners. The property is beautiful and well--tended. We loved sitting on the deck. There is not a thing I would change about this home or our stay. The owner is so gracious and helpful. She is extremely responsive and attentive. I can't say enough about this property. You won't regret staying here. It's a gem.

Our home is on 6 wooded acres. You can just walk down to our beach which is a salt water tidal river. The James River is usually quite warm and great for little ones and older folks. You can kayak or fish. It is quiet and restful and probably the only thing you might hear at night are fog horns from the Ferry if there is fog.The original County of James City included both Williamsburg and Surry VA. This area included Hog Island where the people of Jamestown kept their livestock. It is now a bird sanctuary and we have many migratory birds that pass through. You can see many species of birds. Osprey and the Bald Eagle have become more plentiful of late. We are approximately 2 miles from Chippokes Plantation & State Park. That is the oldest continuous working farm in the U.S. Six miles from us is Bacon's Castle, an historic location of Bacon's Rebellion. The Jamestown-Scotland Ferry, is only three miles away where you can take a free scenic ride to all the amenities of Williamsburg most of them 15 minutes from Jamestown after you have crossed the James River. There you have museums, outlet malls, Busch Gardens, Water Country and many restaurants. The College of William & Mary has many theatrical productions. From here you can always travel farther to the quaint town of Smithfield or toward Richmond, the seat of the Confederacy. We are also about 1 hour & 15 min. from Virginia Beach. The scenery here is always beautiful regardless of season. Come visit! You will love it!
