About Hillary

We are a young family doing our best to create a paradise here in Hawaii. I work for a local bank and my wife is a personal chef and a mom. We feel very lucky to live at this home in Kahalu'u in Hawaii.

Hillary purchased this studio in 2013

Why Hillary chose Waikane

The tropical climate takes it's toll on homes in Hawaii. Even a home that is a few years old can appear much older here. This home is brand new and doesn't have any of the issues associated with older homes. This home also has the advantage of having a contemporary floor plan, recessed lighting, tall ceilings, and other modern home features.

What makes this studio unique

Proximity to the ocean, the north shore, Kailua, Kualoa Ranch, the Polynesian Cultural Center are all great benefits. The large yard and new construction with contemporary feel are also big benefits.

Lovely and spotless

  • 5 of 5

We spent a couple of nights here for a wedding at Kualoa Ranch and this was ideally located. The cottage is clean, with an open floor plan, perfect for families. It's a lower floor unit, situated under a home. The first night we were there, someone was up all night long, walking and perhaps moving furniture. The second night was silent except for road noise. I assume the first night was an unfortunate aberration. If you find yourself in need of a place to stay outside of Waikiki, this is a good and reasonably priced option.

Great property with awesome managers. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

  • 5 of 5

The vacation rental is in a great location on the island. The unit was clean and well cared for. Hillary was very nice and was quick to address our questions and concerns. Hillary and her husband were very friendly and we enjoyed getting to know them. She is also a very good cook and I hope you get a chance to try her coconut rolls. The king size bed was very comfortable and their are plenty of items in the kitchen for some light cooking. This a a great cottage and I hope I get a chance to stay their again.

Not worth it

  • 2 of 5

The location of the cottage is convenient for us as we planned to visit the Kualoa Ranch and Polynesian Cultural Centre. The space was spacious but we did not feel as comfortable during our 2 nights stay as it was not as clean as it seems. Things like the utensils and crockeries has stains and were still greasy. There was also a roach in the drawers. Cupboards/drawers were all dusty. I felt that it's a pity because the owners seem like really nice people when we met them but they should put in more effort to keep the place clean and maintain it. Feedback was given at the end of the stay but owners did not reply or address it. You can also hear the footsteps which the owners has mentioned at the start of the stay so it's not recommended for light sleepers. For the amount that you're paying, including all the cleaning fees and the long list of instructions given to you before you leave, it is definitely not worth your money.

Kahalu'u is quiet, beautiful and convenient to Honolulu and the North Shore. It is especially close to: Chinaman's Hat (our favorite island to kayak to), Kualoa Ranch (very popular tourist attraction) and endless great beaches. Our favorite kid-friendly beach park is Kahana Bay. It is about eight miles away toward the North Shore. Our favorite bon fire area is in Ka'a'Awa about seven miles away. Ka'a'Awa is also a great area for snorkeling. Driving the other direction, SouthEast to Kaneohe and Kailua, will give you more options for restaurants. Hale'iwa Joe's in Kaneohe is our favorite restaurant. Driving past Kaneohe to Kailua you are rewarded with very beautiful, very popular beaches. Kailua is about 12 miles away.

The nearest grocery store is three miles away. Next to the grocery store are a few small restaurants and a large movie theater. Across the street is Valley of the Temples. Not only is it free, but it's one of the most beautiful places on Oahu. There is a very picturesque Buddhist Temple there with an impressive koi pond complete with small turtles and stunning black geese.
