Just What We Needed

  • 5 of 5

A few girlfriends and I came to Cathedral City to take full advantage of the pool and sun. This location was perfect.

The backyard is a dream. It was gorgeous, private and included a floating swan and a bunch of pool noodles. That swan and I became fast friends.

The house itself was great. It was clean and safe and was stocked with everything we could have needed. The beds were cozy and we adored the decor.

We had fantastic contact with the owner, who checked in on us to make sure our visit was going well.

We would highly recommend this rental for a friend/family getaway.

Nice Desert Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a nice stay at this mid-century, modern home in Cathedral City. The home sits in a quiet neighborhood just a few minutes from the freeway, 10 minutes from Palm Springs, and a half hour or so away from Palm Desert/Indio. The keyless entry was one of the best features; it really helped when our party needed to return home separately. The A/C is preset to a range of temperature. The home is a little on the small size, but the big back yard helped with giving us more space. The pool was great but they should think about adding a hot tub in the future. We spent most of our time in the back yard. There were plenty of towels. The internet was down for the first day and a half of our stay, but the cable company came and fixed it. The beds were comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed.

There weren’t that many cons. I did let the home owner know that the sprinklers were giving our cars washes every morning. We had some deep water spots on our cars, which were not fun. I grew up in the desert and hard water plus 100 degree weather will leave water spots on anything. Also the rug in the living room needs to be replaced. It had a weird smell to it. Lastly, if you plan on cooking, be sure to open a window. The vent above the grill does not vent out of the house. It’s just a fan.

Desert Oasis

  • 4 of 5

I stayed here with my family and friends during one of the busiest weekends in the valley, but you would have never been able to tell. The property is just off the beaten path in a quiet neighborhood occupied mostly by families. The home itself is well appointed with all the necessary equipment and accoutrements that one may need for a short holiday with friends and family. Most of the home was tastefully upgraded with newer electronics (massive tv in the living room for the NBA playoffs!) so it was very comfortable for our guests. The best part, of course, was dining al fresco by the pool and taking a leisurely dip as the temperature approached triple digits. Had we stayed longer, we may have needed a washer and dryer, but I'm sure the host would have provided access to one as he was very responsive to all of our needs right away. This property is a great escape from the city and I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a place off the beaten path but not too far from places to dine and shop.

Left after two hours.

  • 1 of 5

I have never written a negative review but feel compelled to write a review for the Paulina House because we left within two hours of arrival. The condition of the house was so poor, my husband and I couldn't stay the night even though we were exhausted after an 18 hour drive from Oregon with two kids and a dog and potentially being out for a pre-paid rental.

While the backyard was nice and as expected, the interior of the home was dirty and worn. The first bed I checked had a yellow stain and hair on the fitted sheet. The trim work throughout the house is worn and grimy. Several of the electrical outlets were no longer secured to the walls and were held up by filthy plug-in air fresheners. The tiles in the bathroom were falling off, several were missing and had not been replaced. The floors were so dirty that after walking barefoot for several minutes our feet were dark gray and we put our shoes back on. I wish I could post pictures because I took several with my phone that show the condition of the house. The owner did refund our cleaning fee, damage deposit and $300 in good faith but we are currently disputing the rest of the charges through our credit card company. I don't require luxury but I do require safe and clean from rentals.

Our previous rentals have been older properties with dated furniture and don't appear as nice as this rental but they were at least maintained and clean. I don't like leaving a negative review but I feel compelled, given our experience. The positive reviews for this home were from 2015. Time, wear and tear have not been kind to his rental.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate that none of the alleged conditions outlined in this review were brought up to the property manager who conducted a walk-through of the property with the guests upon check in. We take great pride in our home and want to ensure each guest has an enjoyable stay. The home is thoroughly cleaned before a guest checks in and again upon check out. The interior of the property was recently painted and new baseboards were installed throughout. There was a loose plate cover over one of the electrical outlets in the guest bedroom, not several as the guest alleges. This was resolved by tightening the screws on the plate cover. Also, there are no loose or missing tiles in either bathroom. We have had 2 additional rentals following this rental, and both parties had very positive feedback about their stay.

Perfect little home

  • 5 of 5

My dad and I stayed here for 11 nights. We had originally planned to stay 9 days but when our plans changed, the owner quickly accommodated our request to check in two days early. The thoughtful owner had a welcome basket to greet us, and the concierge had had the place stocked with plenty of basics so that we didn't have to run out to the store the first night. He met us, showed us around, and made sure we understood how to work everything (electronics, thermostat, door, appliances).

While the home itself is small, it has all the essentials and is effectively and efficiently laid out. The yard and pool are beautiful, and sitting outside became our routine each morning and evening.

The decor is really cute though nothing fancy, but the accoutrements are terrific. Lovely soaps and lotions, the bath and beach towels are thick and luxurious, the bed linens are comfy and of quality materials, and the showers in the two bathrooms have great water pressure. (Note: one part of the listing mistakenly indicates 2.5 baths; there are two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a tub shower combination.)

The house is in a modest older family neighborhood, but it seemed perfectly safe and is centrally located: wherever we were heading, we were no more than 15-20 minutes from Palm Desert, Palm Springs, etc. (you do need a car, however).

A very good value for the price. I'd definitely recommend this property! Thanks, Alex!
