About Valorie Farber

We are a family with young children. We enjoy the peaceful setting the local San Bernardino Mountains have to offer. We enjoy special family time together at our cabin in Big Bear Lake and hope you will enjoy it also.

Valorie Farber purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Valorie Farber chose Big Bear Lake

We purchased this fabulous Big Bear Lake, Moonridge property in 2013. The location is ideal for all seasons and is convenient to all major attractions in Big Bear.

What makes this cabin unique

Upon close of escrow on Lassen Bear Lodge, we immediately renovated much of it. New Paint inside and out. All mattresses and bedding are newer. Most all of the furniture is new. Rocking Recliners in the Living Room on nearly all seating. New bathroom vanities in several of the bathrooms. There are two master bedroom suites, each with their own private decks and bathrooms.

Brand New Jacuzzi outside on the deck out back with a horseshoe pit and plenty of room for sledding in the backyard! Brand new paved driveway with room to park 4-5 cars.

Every room is very private from the other. It is a great multi-family retreat!

Guestbook comments from the manager

This was our second visit to Lassen Bear Lodge. We had another terrific stay and we can't wait to come back again. As usual, the cabin was clean and all prepared for our arrival. We were unpacked and relaxing on the deck with drinks promptly. My boyfriend and I like the privacy we get while staying here, but also appreciate that it's close to town. We like the layout of this cabin. Most bedrooms are located apart from each other and have an adjoining bathroom. Even with 3-4 couples staying here at once we never feel crowded and are able to respect each other's privacy.

Typically, we prefer to eat in when we stay here. The kitchen is well-equipped and we love the huge common area and large dining table. On this visit we did indulge ourselves in some pizza and red wine at Black Diamond Tavern that's just down the street. (I highly recommend their pizza.) We had gone on a great hike up the mountains and didn't feel like cooking. We hiked Pine Knot Trail that starts inside town. We finished the night with drinks and a soak in the hot tub on the patio. I slept like a bear that night.

We loved the new patio furniture on the main deck as well as the master bedroom deck and we took full advantage. I took a bunch of pictures with my new camera of the scenery and birds from the bedroom deck during our morning coffee. It's hard to beat a morning of bathrobes and coffee in the mountains.

This was our second stay here and we noticed a few improvements since our first visit. Besides the new deck furniture, the master bathroom was completely renovated (Btw... love the sink! Where did you find it?) and the new dining room bar stools were a welcome improvement. Also, the WiFi and TV/entertainment system worked great. No troubles staying connected.

This cabin is quickly becoming our favorite getaway location. We'll be stalking the calendar for availability. Can't wait to get back up there. Thanks for another great getaway!

Lassen Bear Lodge (End of January)

  • 3 of 5

We just arrived home from our stay at Lassen Bear Lodge.

Close to Bear Mountain and Big Bear zoo.

Two large master suites and bunk areas for kids make this place great for two families.

Kitchen and dining area was spacious, yet had a cozy feel to it.

Nice mud room to put all of your snow gear.

Good luck finding a light switch.

Once you do find a light switch, either the lights did not work or the bulbs were missing.

Downstairs bunk room was cold. House heating system did not warm And small floor heater did not help.

I also recommend that the owner get universal remotes for the TVs. Having to use 3-4 remotes to get a DVD playing for the kids is frustrating.

I would give this cabin 3.5 stars. Location is great, but for the nightly price I would expect the whole cabin to be warm and well lighted.

Owner's Response: Dear Chuck, Thank you for your feedback. Our family takes great pride in Lassen Bear Lodge, but like most cabins in Big Bear it is an older home and does have some quirks to it! We are so glad that you enjoyed the location of the cabin and the 2 master suites and the floor plan of the cabin. We apologize you had difficulty with the remotes. This is the first I have heard of someone challenged by the remotes. We will be sure to take a look at that. The lights also do work, however there are a few spots in the home where there are more than one wall switch and it can be frustrating if you are not aware of how the lights are wired. In regard to the heat, most guests find the cabin quite toasty when utilizing the wood stove as that heats most of the home coupled with the wall heaters. Our family stayed at the cabin recently and were so toasty, we had to crack some of the windows open. Lassen Bear Lodge was expanded on over time and has multiple heaters that work independently of each other. There is the oversized heater in the living room, a heater for the master bedroom, a heater in the mini-master. There is a fireplace unit in the bunk room where you stated it was cold. My guess is that perhaps you had it on the light only mode and not heat also as from our experience, that has been proficient to heat that bunk room in addition with the wood stove that heats the entire home. In an effort to be pro-active for future tenants, I am having an additional wall heater installed in that room in the next week. We value your feedback, and what we are going to do is provide an instruction sheet on how to operate the heating system to warm the entire home and also to explain which switches turn off the primary lighting in the home. Thank you for choosing Lassen Bear Lodge for your Big Bear Vacation and we hope that with our addressing your concerns that you have mentioned, that you will consider Lassen Bear Lodge for a future stay.

this cabin really made the experience perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Lassen Bear Lodge recently and had an amazing time in Big Bear! I'm compelled to write because this cabin really made the experience perfect. The cabin was large and spacious. It had enough rooms for two and adults! The large spacious kitchen flowed amazingly into the living space making it the perfect place for everyone to gather and enjoy each other's company. The cabin was amazingly clean. Everything seemed fresh and new from the linens to the furniture. We felt like we were staying in a resort style cabin with all the thoughtful amenities. The large deck just outside the living and kitchen area were the perfect setting for us to wake up to hot coffee. The kids loved the swinging tire! It gave the adults time to have adult time, but it was hard to tear the kids away from the large kid friendly back yard when we wanted to leave. Also, notable was the hot tub on the deck...nothing better than drinks in the hot tub under the stars in Big Bear! And it's location!! It couldn't be in a better's right at the base of Bear Mountain's ski slopes and close to everything else in town. I give this place my highest recommendation. Although I'd like to keep it as my families little secret, I think many will enjoy this very cool cabin!
