Very good experience

  • 4 of 5

This property may not be perfect but for the size, price and location it is very hard to beat. Very large, well equipped kitchen and other rooms were big also. Nice and clean bathrooms. Entire unit pretty clean and maintained. There were a few minor issues but we told the agent so hopefully they will be addressed. Easy, slightly inclined walk to the private dock. We did not have small children but it would be fine for them inside and out. Quiet and somewhat remote location. They are serious about the bad cell service. Signal on the dock but usually none at the house. The road is IMO a pickup or SUV access only. Very rough and low ground clearance in places. Don't plan on bringing a boat down it. Just the trailer. Use Lost Bridge North boat ramp. Not near as steep as LB South. And, maybe most important, the lake is beautiful. We will be back.

Fun time away from our busy schedule

  • 5 of 5

This place was exactly what we were looking for.. lots of space and room for 5 different households to get together and enjoy the water. We had 8 adults and 7 children and there was more than enough room! I will definitely be staying here in the future if it's available! There was a musty smell upon arrival, but after opening some windows and plugging in a couple of scentsy warmers I brought from home, the smell was gone and stayed that way for our entire stay. The threshold between the master room and bathroom did have nails exposed due to the carpet being frayed and it had not been repaired, but we kept mindful of it and didn't have any issues. This home was very clean and secluded at the end of a long, curvy gravel road. We did have to take it slow due to steep climbs and sharp turns but that is the nature of the area. There was plenty of parking space and you could easily turn around using the driveway next to the house that goes to a building on the far back side of the property. We had 3 large trucks and an suv with plenty of parking space. We had plenty of linens and supplies in throughout the entire home. Bonus: we were able to do our laundry and pack clean clothes instead of loads and loads of dirty ones! The walk to the boat deck is not completely flat but was doable for all ages. It was nice to have access to our boat and the water just steps away from the porch. Check in/out was a breeze, management answered all questions and interacted professionally with us as we needed. There were no issues during our stay so we did contact them while in the home.

In a state of disrepair

  • 2 of 5

We have stayed at many VRBO's and I hate to write negative reviews but this house was the worst. It is in desperate need of repair in many places. First to start with the location, great! but....Mitchell's Mile is a .08mile road that's 10mph tops, rough rocks. Typical Arkansas lake road. Secluded and quiet but DO NOT take your boat to the house unless you have a small fishing type boat. No where to turn around easily. Lots of low hanging branches that need trimmed. Launch at Lost Bridge South, easy boat ride to house dock. Dock at house is very small. We have a 24' Tritoon and about 7 foot stuck out the back of the dock, uncovered, which did not seem to matter much since the tin roof leaks so bad the boat was soaked from front to rear anyway. Repair-repair. As you enter the house there is a VERY STRONG musty/moldy odor that got into all our clothes and pillows. Even the clothes in the luggage we did not wear stunk so bad we had to wash it all once home. The skylight in the living room was leaking water and had a pan on the floor catching water. The skylight looked as though it was ready to fall out. The master bedroom door leading outside to the patio was completely off its track and had a big gap to the outside, which might explain all the crickets and spiders in the house. The front door deadbolt was missing from inside the door. All the front windows have lost their insulation properties as they were always covered in condensation from the A/C and outside humidity. Not sure when this house was built, maybe 40's, but it appears to not have been updated anytime recently. The carpet at the threshold in the master bedroom leading to the bathroom had the tack strip showing so we had to cover it with a wash cloth to avoid stepping on the nails with bare feet, again. The 2 queen beds were very hard and firm. Master bed has a cheap foam pad over top of hard mattress, not real comfortable. Beautiful furniture in master bedroom. Kitchen is nice and large with large fridge. This could be a great place after some updating and fixes are done, SOON.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of some of these situations. This home is a burm home or underground home. We have had so much rain this Spring season that it may have contributed to a musty odor. We will ask that the owner add a dehumidifier. After all of the rain we had in May and June, the owners did have the skylight repaired, but, obviously, as with many skylights, this is one where once was not enough. These owners are conscientious and would not want an unpleasant stay for their renters as well as damage to their home. We have let them know about this and they are moving to have it re-repaired. Regarding the road and setting of the home, it is older, and by no means is it a luxury lake house, which is why it is such an affordable, large home for families and/or groups to vacation, get together and relax. It is a secluded house on a dirt road. This house had new carpet put in this year. This was the first time we as property managers have heard about the carpet strip. We will get this fixed immediately, so it does not hurt someone. Again, thank you for letting us know about the issues we can remedy. It is greatly appreciated. Oh My!!!!

  • 2 of 5

This home is at the end of a very washed out gravel road. We dubbed it "The Cave", as it is underground with only the front of the house exposed. I couldn't tell if the musty smell was cigarette smoke or just mustiness from lack of circulation or both. Either way the sour smell was still hanging on our clothes when I unpacked our suitcases upon arriving home. We turned on the fans and opened the windows to air it out thereby cooling the house down considerably. The heat did not come on but the owner was very responsive to our request for heat and even carried in fire wood when he couldn't get the furnace to kick on either. He had a serviceman out the next day to get that fixed. We got used to the odor after being inside for awhile but it was noticeable each time we left and came back.

We would not rent this home again.

Owner's Response: This is a “Berm” or “Earth” home built into the hillside. It is located at the end of a gravel/dirt road and has wooded surroundings beyond the mowed front yard. At a mere price of $175 per night off season, you get a large 4 bedroom home with 800 feet of shoreline and a dock. This home is not fancy but it’s clean. You can have a bonfire outdoors and kids can put up a tent. Regarding the smell, the carpet is old and is being removed this winter. This will not be an issue in 2015. The pictures on the web site are not altered or improved in anyway. If you need pictures of the road, I can send them to you.

We were bummed to leave!

  • 4 of 5

When we arrived there was a mustiness to the house but being by the lake and in the woods I'm sure there's a good reason. We felt right at home and enjoyed every moment. The dock was awesome! We all jumped it into the lake and did some fishing as well. It was very private and quiet. We will be coming back and staying here again most definitely!
