Captain Hiram Clift of the Hudson whaling vessel built this home in 1891. Clift's historically restored and perfectly appointed Victorian home is full of antiques and charm. Dine with loved ones in the formal dining room. Partake in warm and wonderful conversations while your family chefs cook in the casual eat-in kitchen. Converse with family and friends without distraction of television. For families who love the great outdoors, walk 3/10 of a mile in different directions to magical destinations; downtown shopping, the famous Mystic River Bascule Bridge, Mystic Pizza where the 1988 movie of the same name was filmed, Mystic Seaport, the museum of America and the Sea, or three small parks, one of which features a play scape. Step into Hiram Clift's 1891 home and step back in time.

About April Hunt

Owner currently lives in East Lyme, CT and grew up in Waterford, CT. For 26 years he has worked as a home inspector.

April Hunt purchased this house in 1977

Why April Hunt chose Connecticut

I grew up sailing, joined the Coast Guard, and spent most of my life on the water. Mystic is a wonderful sailing community that brings me back to one of my favorite past times.

What makes this house unique

What I loved about this home was its historical design and proximity to Mystic Seaport, where the sailing history of America is all encompassing.

Walk to Everything in Mystic

  • 3 of 5

Lovers of Mystic attractions and restaurants will really enjoy this home. Quaint and loaded with personal memorabilia, the owners have provided a comfortable and well-cared-for house of some historical interest. The small, unkempt yard makes this offering less than user friendly for families with small children; however, for older kids and parents more interested in the offerings of the community at large, this should not be a problem. Owners are friendly and responsive.

Walking Distance to everything!

  • 4 of 5

This house is perfect for sightseeing. Walking distance to the Seaport and the heart of Downtown Mystic with more great restaurants than one can try. Must eat stops: Bravo Bravo, AJ's, S&P, Oyster Club, Mystic Pizza...all just a stroll away! The house is quaint and old, but so are we!

Incredible Rental

  • 5 of 5

My two daughters, me, and my aunt just finished staying at this rental (August 2 - 9th). We cannot recommend it enough. The owners were super responsive to all our needs. The house is only about 3 blocks from downtown Mystic, the river, lots of shopping and restaurants. Headed the opposite direction the Mystic Seaport is also about 3 blocks. The Mystic River is just 1 block away. It's really the perfect location. The house is super clean and historically appointed. The house has beautiful refinished hardwood floors. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows. The bathrooms clean and the showers perfect. We could not have been more pleased and would recommend this house to anyone looking for an enjoyable stay in Mystic, CT.

Wonderful July 4th week!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful week stay at this vacation home. The house was larger than we expected, there was more than enough space for the 4 of us. My husband and I were there with our two sons, age 21 & 22. The house was a perfect setup for us. The owners were great, the day we arrived was very hot and humid, April called to see if we needed anything and I wondered if there were any fans. She said no, but they would go and pick up air conditioners. They installed 3 new air conditioners for us which made our stay evening more enjoyable.

The location of the house is great. You can walk to Mystic town center where all the shops & restaurants are and to the Mystic Seaport. The Mystic Aquarium is a short drive, as is the beach. We cooked most of our breakfasts and some dinners in the kitchen which had everything we needed.

Tom and April are great and are very happy to help you if you need anything. Tom has done a great job restoring the property adding some very nice details like the antique door hinges and window handles. The hardwood floors throughout the house have also been restored. The house has a real New England feel to it. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to stay here again next year.

Owner's Response: We were happy to install air conditioning units during the unexpected wave of humidity. Seeking period pieces to maintain the antiquity of the home built in 1891 was Tom's labor of love of antique homes. We enjoyed providing Deborah with whatever it took to make her family vacation relaxing. We hope to see her lovely family again next year! Thank you for choosing the Hiram Clift House.

Walking distance to Mystic seaport and down town with all the great restaurants. Great location. Met the owners as well, very nice people. Would recommend for anybody that would like to visit Mystic or New England.
