About the property

Vintage Cabin: Retro vibe with contemporary amenities! Close to town, ski, hike.

REINDEER COTTAGE is one of five cabins that we personally own and rent in Wrightwood. You may also be interested in: Owls Nook (VRBO #634670), The Hideaway (HomeAway #399941), Little Pines Cabin (HomeAway #356141), and Chickadee (VRBO #970104).

Reindeer Cottage is a 3-bedroom Wrightwood Cabin Rental near Mountain High Ski Resort. Walking distance to hiking, sledding, and the quaint village shops/restaurants. Very close to the Wrightwood Country Club, a popular spot for weddings. This cabin is over 80 years old but has been remodeled to meet modern needs while still retaining its vintage charms.

Two bedrooms on the main level include one queen bed room and one room with 2 twin beds, which can be pushed together and made into a King bed (albeit a little shorter than normal King beds). The loft bedroom includes a double bed and 2 twin beds. Altogether the cabin can sleep up to 8.

The one bathroom is small but adorable, with a custom spa-like shower complete with travertine tile, river pebble floor, and rain shower head. View of mountain from the shower. The sink is a custom-made concrete bowl vessel sink mounted on a piece of a giant fir tree trunk that was cut down locally.

The living room features a real reindeer (taxidermy head mount), sectional sofa, wood-burning fireplace, knotty pine plank walls, vaulted ceiling, wagon wheel chandelier, games, movies, flat screen TV, Dish Satellite and wifi. Central heat furnace for winter; portable A/C and fans for summer if needed (most homes in Wrightwood use the cold summer night air in place of air conditioners).

The retro kitchen includes stove/oven, fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, pots & pans & dishes & utensils, etc. Does not have a dishwasher or disposal due to the age of the cabin. Next to the kitchen, the wooden sunroom serves as a dining area, with custom made wood table (made from the cabin's old front door and the weathered wood of the old back deck) and seating for 8.

There's a luxurious infrared dry-heat sauna in the yard, perfect for 2 people.

Gorgeous back deck made by a local lumberjack from local trees; views of mountain from deck. BBQ grill, completely fenced yard with apple tree, playhouse. Sleds available for use.

All linens provided. Front-loading washer and dryer in cabin.

Guests can enjoy discounts at Mountain High ($49 8-hour passes with NO BLACKOUT DATES for 2016-17 season!), Admo Motorcycle Tours (10% off), Benny's Board Rentals, Holistic Health massages and facials, Cedar Street Eats and Treats, and other local businesses. Inquire for details.

About Barbara

We are a family of four with one son who's a competitive snowboarder and one who's a competitive skier. We bought our first cabin in Wrightwood to use for ourselves on weekends, but fell in love with Wrightwood and bought a house up here to live in full time. We've had so much fun renting out that first property (Little Pines cabin & the Hideaway) to others seeking great travel memories that we decided to buy another, Reindeer Cottage. Soon after we added Owls Nook and Chickadee as well. When not busy with our cabin business, we do have "real jobs" down the hill as professors.

Barbara purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Barbara chose Inland Empire

This cabin was in rough shape when we first saw it on the market. In fact, it sat without a buyer for months, scaring off potential bidders with its interior water damage, thick dust, 1970s decor, and a huge back deck too treacherous to step a foot on. We decided to take a chance on it, and we're glad we did! It's been fun to see the diamond in the rough shine through. You can see the transformation on our website, StayInWrightwood.com.

What makes this cabin unique

When we bought our other property (Little Pines) we picked it because it was contemporary on the inside, despite looking like a cabin on the outside. What we love about Reindeer Cottage is how much of a vintage old cabin it actually is -- it's fun to have both ends of the spectrum. We've tried to keep and even reinstall some of the old era details, while modernizing in other spots, such as creating a new spa-like shower with river pebbles, travertine, and rainfall shower head. Our favorite features include the mountain views, the sunroom, the back deck, the large-plank knotty pine throughout, and the reindeer head mount we found secondhand that now graces the space above the fireplace. Someday we'll add horseshoes to the side yard and install an outdoor shower in the backyard, plus much more. If only we had more time to work on these projects!

Guestbook comments from the owner

My son, daugher-in-law, grandkids and I enjoyed a peaceful weekend. With batteries fully charged we head back to the grind. This is the second of your delightful properties I've stayed at. Thanks!

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

Hi -

We thoroughly enjoyed the few days we stayed at Reindeer Cottage this spring. Barbara was VERY helpful and responsive. Cabin had everything we would need and was adorable. The fenced yard was great for the 2 dogs and it was nice that we were close enough to walk to cute restaurants and shops. All ages would have a great time at Reindeer Cottage. We missed the snow but maybe next time! THANKS!

Great property to enjoy with family!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at the Reindeer Cottage several times and have had a great experience each time! The cabin comes equipped with everything we need and it is in a great location. The kids love to play in the big loft area and the living room is a cozy spot to hang out. I love the enclosed patio area with the large dining table to eat and play games on. We will definitely continue to use this property.

Reindeer Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family enjoyed staying in this cozy little cabin while in Wrightwood for a family wedding. We found it to be clean, comfortable and well equipped with everything we could need. I was also impressed with the great communication with the owners, they even went out of their way to mail me the cell phone charger that I accidentally left there. Would definitely stay again!

Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had the best time staying at this cabin. Everything was clean and easy to find. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of bedding and bath towels. We had 7 adults and one small dog and we all had plenty of room to be together or to find a quite place to be alone. I would definitely recommend this cabin and will use it again.

Cozy, charming, warm

  • 4 of 5

This was a perfect mountain getaway and would consider staying there again as we live approximately 2 hours from Wrightwoid and enjoy skiing at Mtn High.

The only disappointment was that the sauna wasn't working properly and this was an important amenity to us. The owners were quick to respond to texts and questions. They were unable to get the sauna in repaired or in working order during our 4 day stay. We've asked for a credit for this issue.

The perfect place to rest and relax. It was our very 1st cabin rental experience and we definitely plan on returning. This cabin was equipped w just about everything you need to feel at home. Our experience w the owner was wonderful! Our only disappointment was that it wasn't snowing but there was snow to play in near by.
