A great little house in a prime location near downtown Golden and the Clear Creek Trail
We stayed for 5 nights while I was taking a class at the American Mountaineering Center- just 1.5 blocks up the street. The house with cute with everything needed for a stay- fast reliable wifi, all the kitchen appliances, comfy beds, a hot shower, great couch for TV watching, and a few blocks from all the fun of downtown Golden with many restaurants. I was pleased with my stay and would highly recommend this quiet house. Great and quick interactions with hosts as well.
Great location, nice house, could use some improvements
A friend and I shared the rental for a six day training we were attending in Golden. The location of the rental was very convenient, easy walking distance to downtown restaurants and shops as well as to the training center. The property is in an office/industrial area as opposed to a residential neighborhood, but that was okay for us. The owners were responsive about a light bulb needing to be replaced over the entry door, but they did not repair the front gate which came off its hinges the first time we used it. We were never able to log onto either of the two wifi networks offered, despite verifying the passwords, however after a couple of days with no success the owner offered a third network that did work for us. The living room and dining room were very nice. The kitchen suited our needs well enough and was better supplied than many vacation rentals I've stayed in, however the very small fridge in the kitchen froze any food at the back of the top shelf (there's a full size fridge in the basement that might function better), the cutting boards provided were basically thin, rough pieces of pressboard that had been cut to various sizes, one of the stove burners required a lighter to ignite, the control panel for the oven was missing a bracket and sitting loosely in its setting and so was difficult to use, and there was no cheese grater. Water pressure in the shower was very low but it was usable. The beds were unfortunately terrible, and neither of us slept well during our stay. The king sized mattress had depressions where previous guests had slept; turning the mattress didn't help, as there were depressions on the other end as well. It really needs to be replaced. The twin beds in the second bedroom weren't very comfortable either. Also, the linens were washed in heavily scented laundry soap, and the smell was overpowering, like strongly scented candles. I realize this wouldn't be an issue for everyone, but if you are sensitive to synthetic fragrances, you might want to check with the owners prior to renting as to whether they might be willing to use a natural or unscented soap. I had to go buy unscented soap and wash the sheets and towels three times to get the smell out; when I unpacked at home, all of my clothes smelled from the scent permeating the air. I'm sorry not to be able to give a better review. I think with new mattresses and a little more attention to detail and maintenance, this could be a lovely rental.
Thank you for your review. We are sorry the place did not live up to your expectations. This is one of our 4 rentals in town (since 2009) and we use the same laundry soap (Costco Kirkland brand) and replace beds in a standard rotation at all of our houses. This house is due a king bed replacement this spring - it's been 2 years. The half size fridge upstairs is finicky, but full size downstairs is better. The other issues are interesting. The front gate was lifted and taken off the hinges somehow - but it was an easy fix. We post 3 access points for wiFi in the house through 2 different internet providers. The guest had to be told to try a second option after several calls. It solved the problem. I had an issue the week before but updated my virus protection software and it solved the problem. Thanks for staying with us in an 80 year old house. It's not perfect, but we strive for excellence. We are fortunate for our location in Downtown Golden.
This house is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The hardwood floors, built in cabinet and spacious rooms are very nice. The location is within walking distance to the downtown main street. Booking and communication with the owner went very well. I would stay here again when I visit Golden.
Cute little cottage walking distance from downtown Golden
Great location, we came for a wedding Labor Day weekend and just fell in love with Golden!! This house is walking distance to everything!! You don't need a car, we just had the best time wandering the town of Golden, the Coor's tour is just a couple blocks away. We will be back, The couple from Oakley, Utah :)
We had a great week here. The house had everything you needed and spacious. It was only 2 blocks from downtown Golden. We always enjoyed our walk thru the park which was one block away on our way to downtown Golden. So convenient to all of the restaurants, shops and the river walk. We hated to leave.
John was fantastic to work with. He responded promptly to our questions.
