Excellent place to stay close to water - swimming and snorkelling a minute away
Nice place to stay close to water. In a gated community, well maintained, on a simple side but everything works.
Simple apartment, great location
The ground floor apartment was simple and clean with a well stocked kitchen and a washer/dryer which is a nice add on a beach vacation. The location (in a gated neighborhood) is quiet and a few hundred feet from an entry to the "champagne ponds" which is a small inlet with very clear water a some fish to see when snorkeling. The best thing about the location is the nearby maritime preserve with a huge network of interconnected inlets with great snorkeling just 5 min away. Hilo is not far away for an evening out, and you are just an hour from the Volcano national monument too.
A terrific area to explore and relax
This is a very quiet and uncommercial corner of the island, with easy access to plenty to do, if you like to hike, swim and explore the National Park.
We especially enjoyed the Wednesday night farmer's market at Uncle Robert's at the end of Route 137.
We had a good day in Hilo taking in the sites and shopping. The Lyman Museum's House tour and the Tusnami museum both had excellent docents.
We stayed 4 nights and wished we could stay longer. This property is comfortable and has been outfitted well. Do bring reading materials, maps, guide books, and gate instructions.
Peace with Beauty
If you are looking for peace with Beauty, you will find it within this property.
It is just a little piece of Heaven.
Great place to introduce someone to snorkeling
Nice and cozy home with the sound of ocean waves nearby. Wooden louvers? (Look like shutters), below big windows facing the ocean allow a nice breeze to flow through. The naturally heated champagne ponds are less than a stones throw away and are great for washing away the stresses of fast paced life and getting into island mode.
Beautiful location. Necessities were met in rental.
Picture windows in bedroom and front room do not open to enjoy breeze and French doors and entry door do not have screens which result in many mosquitos. Make sure you have all your supplies because there is no close stores but very serene and quite ( except for occasional party noise from other VRBO s) .
Champagne Pond is just a short stroll away from the house for a safe swim. The beautiful coral gardens of Wai Opae Marine Reserve are within walking distance and have superb snorkeling. Check out the Farmers Market on Friday's at Green Mountain and ask Smiley if you can check out the lake or hike up to the top for incredible views of Kapoho. The surf and boat launch at Pohoiki Bay are seven miles south, and you can stop at Ahalanui Hot Ponds along the way for a soak in Puna's thermal waters! Kalapana, near the ocean entrance to the lava flow, when Pele flows that way, is just 15 miles south on the scenic Hwy 137. Shopping and restaurants are 13 miles away in Pahoa.
