Welcome to Northwest Modern. This house is warm and inviting befitting the northwest, yet clean and minimal in the modern style. I think the home is the perfect luxurious getaway for two, as well as a comfortable fit for a large family or group of up to ten. The home has heated floors, dimmers on most lights and WiFi high speed cable internet access throughout. Set just across North Shore from beautiful Lake Whatcom your view through nearly floor to ceiling glass windows and doors will be dominated by the lake, it's wild life and the sunsets that bring each day to a close.
The top floor is a master suite and features a library, a large master bedroom with a flat screen TV, a large bathroom with a walk in shower and four body sprays, as well as a huge deck.
The main floor houses the kitchen, dining, living, and powder rooms. The kitchen is in the modern style with stainless steel appliances, gas stove, microwave, and island. The living room is bright and open and features a fireplace and another flat screen TV. There is another deck on this floor with a barbeque, outdoor furniture and retractable awnings.
The basement sleeps eight and is made up of a large playroom with a ping pong table. A laundry room. A full guest bathroom with a shower/tub combo. A kids room with four bunk beds. A guest room with a queen size bed. As well as a theater room with a large 8 foot by 6 foot screen, two bean bags and a fold out couch with a foam mattress which sleeps two.
Situated near the end of North Shore road there is easy access to the lake (shared beach across the street), trails, Bellingham, and Mt Baker. The local pub and fine eatery is only a mile away so you can slip down there if you don't feel like cooking. Whether for a casual drink at the bar or a fine dining experience you can get it at the Fork.
We Hope you decide to come for a stay at our Northwest Modern home.
I moved onto lake Whatcom when I was five years old and though I left for college and returned much later as a husband and father, I have a long standing connection with this area and this land. I built what we are calling, Northwest Modern, starting in 2010 as a place for my wife's mother to come and stay for long term visits. I have built many other homes as a contractor, but this is the first one that I designed with my own tastes and preferences in mind. I really like the result and I hope you will too.
Zack purchased this house in 2010
I want to be able to offer this home to couples at a reasonable rate so that they can enjoy this experience at not much more than the cost of a nice hotel room. However I also want to make the home available to larger groups at prices more consistent with the size and amenities of the overall space. I'm hoping I achieved that with my pricing structure.
It's a unique house, and it's essentially new. It was built to be enjoyed by just one or two people by shutting down the basement, or for many guests by opening up that level. Because the house will be used during the summer by my family I am looking to rent a large and luxurious lake house in the fall, winter, and spring. So I think if you want to, or need to be in this area during those times, this could be a great fit.
Eight nights at Northwest Modern...bliss!
The house has everything one could need during a vacation by the lake.
Our 14 year old loved the ping pong table!
The area offers hikes, walks along the lake, golf, great bike rides in Edison and downtown Bellingham is a great area to explore.
Relaxing by the lake or on the spacious deck was our favorite activity!
My family and I rented this home to celebrate my graduation from WWU. It is on beautiful Lake Whatcom. We were so comfortable and impressed by the location and view of the home. We had an amazing time thanks to Zach who was able to provide a large enough space for my big family to be together for the weekend :)
We had a great weekend away. The home is beautiful, lots of great touches. Decks are amazing, and the awning meant we could enjoy them even in the rain.
Our stay at the lakeside property in Bellingham exceeded our expectations. There was plenty of space and areas to relax that we all thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property. The beds were comfortable, the decks and view were great places to relax and enjoy a days end glass of wine and it was close enough to Bellingham yet far enough away that it fit the bill exactly. Zack, our host, was very communicative and helpful in providing all the answers to our questions. Without a doubt, the next time we are in Bellingham we will check to see the availability of this property before I consider any other accommodations.
we were so pleased with every aspect of the property. It was beautiful and super comfortable. The master bed is very comfortable and has beautiful views of the lake. The owner was extremely nice and helpful. There a great restaurant within a mile or so of the house. My husband and I played ping pong in the basement, and did a lot of cooking and relaxed during the cold rainy days. We hiked and took great photos of the area. We truly loved Bellingham and look forward to our next visit. If you plan on visiting Bellingham, and you are looking for the perfect house to make you feel perfectly at home, then you want to stay here. I would move in if I could leave my life behind.
We had an absolutely fantastic time at this home for a weekend away with friends. Lake Whatcom dominates the view from the home and there are two beaches just across the street with easy lake access for swimming and floating. The house is gorgeous both inside and out (complete with retractable awnings on the large deck facing the lake!). The kitchen is huge and well-appointed with everything you could possibly need, both decks are lovely for sipping coffee, chatting and reading, and the common areas are all very comfortable. The media room and ping pong table in the lower level were especially fun to utilize. Sleeping arrangements were also comfortable (taller adults had to squeeze into the bunk beds, but those of us who were average/shorter fit just fine!). Can't wait to get back here for another weekend. The owners of the property were also very kind and easy to work with.
