Steve a general contractor born and reared in Philadelphia & Marcy a retired Budget Officer & School Administrator/Teacher fell in love with Santa Fe over 33 years ago and have called it home ever since. We built our careers here and raised our family at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
marcy Pompei purchased this house in 2005
When we purchased this property all that existed was this small rundown adobe Casita. With a year of design work we came up with a plan for a compound that included the construction of a new 2 bedroom 2 bath main house with a major remodel to the existing Casita that you now see above.
What makes Casita de Pompei special is the feeling an earthen adobe home give the occupants cozy, safe, quite and secure.
My wife and I just spent a week at this wonderful, beautifully appointed casita. In fact, we wish we could have stayed much longer, and we plan to return soon.
We spent 8 days over Labor Day. The casita was a perfect home base. It is well located, nicely appointed, very clean and while small in dimension, it lived 'comfy' for the 2 of us. We especially enjoyed the outdoor patio where we sat with a little wine to plan the next day. We also were able to dine out - on the patio. The BBQ grill was a plus too.
The casita is on a side street so there's very little traffic noise. The off-street parking was handy -- right next to the entry gate.
Marcy was very helpful in giving us pointers and was quick to help clear up a little internet snag.
This was our first visit to Santa Fe. There was so much to do -- time flew by. Our favorite hiking excursion was Tent Rocks (a must see!), but Valles Caldera (thanks Marcy for the recommendation) and Pecos Natl Monument were great too. There are miles of city hiking trails on the edge of town. Definitely worth getting trail maps and updated conditions from the visitor center (about 10 minute drive from casita).
The docent led tour at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the tour of the NM State Capital were both informative and entertaining.
The casita was a great little home base for us. Easily recommend it.
casa was clean and had everything we needed and the bed was comfortable and had lots of storage for clothes and suit cases and stuff. we did not do any cooking but it looked like the kitchen was stocked well. bathroom was clean and has plenty of towels but its a little small and my husband had problems with the step up into it he kept stubbing his toes. The casa could use another mirror somewhere other than the bathroom to use while the bathroom was occupied. It was fairly hot in the casa it does not have air conditioning but it does have a portable unit that helped some and the bedroom had a nice ceiling fan so it was manageable. The outdoor space was nice for the dog and we enjoyed sitting out there drinking our morning coffee. there was some nice trinket yard lighting outside but none of it worked so that was kind of disappointing. It is close to everywhere we wanted to go so the location was good. cant say we really met the owners other than a few comments through the fence because our dog barked at their cat when it climbed on the fence. If we ever came back to Santa Fe we would stay again!
We stayed the whole month of August in Casa Pompei, so quiet and peaceful, sometimes we spent the whole day "at home". No place is far from the casita and our hosts were kind and helpful. When wwe refurn we will stay at Casa Pompei again! No doubt about it!
WHAT A GREAT PLACE TO STAY. CONVENIENT, CLEAN, AFFORDABLE, WITH OFF STREET PARKING, AND A HOST THAT MAKES SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS IN PLACE. IT WAS A WONDERFULLY QUIET ESCAPE FROM THE BUSY HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF SANTA FE AND LOCATED WITH EASY ACCESS TO THE MANY NATIONAL PARKS AND ACTIVITIES THAT MAKE SANTA FE SUCH A GEM.
We just finished a wonderful week long stay at Casa Pompei and it made our Santa Fe visit the best we have ever had. The casita is a completely refurbished historic adobe with all the elements that make “Santa Fe charm”. Starting with its location on a small quiet street in a charming neighborhood, we knew this rental was just what we were seeking. Radiant heated brick floors, beautiful tiled bathroom with great old world feel, modern well equipped kitchen all with wonderful wood flairs and polished plaster walls. The thick adobe walls coupled and the quiet neighborhood were so special for sleeping and relaxing. It was completely, wonderfully quiet. It’s just a short five minutes to the Plaza and other central locations. Additionally there is a biking/hiking trail within two blocks and bicycles are ready for you if you choose. The owners, Marcy and Steve, are long time locals and very helpful, giving us many inside tips on places to visit, untrammeled areas and unique activities when we inquired. I highly recommend Casa Pompei for your stay. I know we’ll be back!
