Located in the Heart of Guanajuato, just 2 minutes walk to the Jaurez Theater and the Main Square (Jardin Union) and just next to one the most charming plazas of the city (plaza Mexiamora),is this colonial home which has been beautifully, remodeled and decorated.
The house it is accesible by car, so there is no need to walk on the alleys (callejones), as the house is only 20 steps from the Street (Cantarranas/Miguel Hidalgo), and next to it there is a public parking lot.
Upon entering the home is a corridor with beautiful details and wonderful light. It is open into the living room that is characteristic of a space from the 19th century with it's high ceilings, very wide walls and floors with Saltillo tiles.
Next to the living room is the large colonial style kitchen, decorated with azulejos tiles from Dolores Hidalgo. The dining area is located in the kitchen.
Also, on the ground level is a studio/tv room with a day bed which allows for extra sleeping quarters. There is a full bathroom on this floor.
Ascending the stairs which are filled with beautiful natural light from a grand window is a view of some of the most typical houses in Guanajuato and the mountains.
On the second floor is a large corridor with another great window and great light. The three bedrooms and bathroom are on this floor. The very large master bedroom with it`s romantic balcony is a serene space to enjoy the afternoons and evenings in Guanajuato. The other two bedrooms have double beds and are decorated with great flair and each has it's own charm. On this level there is also a full bathroom. It`s a perfect home for a big family (the house holds comfortably 7 people) or for a group of friends.
There is a completely independent apartment with a beautiful terrace on the 3rd floor, which can be connected to the house in case it would be needed (the apartment can hold up to 2 people).
On the roof top there is an outdoor terrace, with a magnificient view of the city and the typical houses of Guanajuato. Is the perfect place to relax and watch the sunset after a long day in town.
Upstairs of the roof top terrace there is an aditional 1 bedroom/full bath penthouse apartment with a completly equipped kitchen. The rooftop apartment is rented separetly from the main house. So when adding the rooftop apartment the home has a total of 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The apartment has a complete independent entrance from the main house.
Note: Private Access to the rooftop terraces are included with the downstairs. So it is not necessary to rent the rooftop apartment to have access to the rooftop terraces. There is a terrace for the apartment and a terrace for the house.
So the house can be rented as 2 independent units. Prices of the apartment can be provided upon request.

Gerardo Araujo purchased this house in 2000
For us this is a unique house right in the heart of the city. A minute walk to most of the atractions of the city.
We remodeled this home years ago and we are happy to share it with our guests whom we are certain that will also love it. It is what it was considered in the old times, a mexican family home and we have updated adding the commodities of the modern life, an apartment and 2 beautifull terraces on the roof top.
The colonial architecture of the house, the roof terrace and the location in the center, is what it makes of our house a unique home.
This beautiful home exceeded our expectations in many ways. The home was spacious and beautifully decorated with an upper deck featuring a breath taking view. The manager, Gerardo was very helpful and had us settled in immediately. The location is ideal in many ways as it is in close proximity to all sights while remaining in the city center and flat lands. The one drawback of being in the "centro district" is noise. Several bars and clubs are located in the immediate area and remain noisy until early morning.
This simply darling little apartment couldn’t have been more perfect for my two moth stay in Guanajuato. The location is unparalleled for proximity and ease of access to anything you might want to see or do in Guanajuato. The two terraces afford superb views of the surrounding mountains, and historic landmarks such as the monument to Pipila, Templo de San Francisco, and the basilica
Weekly concerts at nearby Teatro Principal and the Cervantes Gallery were superb and a mere 2 minute stroll away. There is no shortage of restaurants in the area and although there are supermercados in Guanajuato, you can get everything you possibly need within a 5 minute walk - a fabulous array of microbrewery beers, freshly roasted coffee, all the exotic fruits and vegetables of Mexico, tortillas hot from the oven, and all your daily grocery needs.
I loved having breakfast in the sunshine on the terrace just outside the kitchen/living/dining room and practicing yoga on the upstairs terrace as the sun went down. The queen bed was very comfortable and the bathroom and shower stall were a good size, especially by Mexican standards. Come armed with good earplugs as nighttime revelry in Guanajuato can be quite lively some, but fortunately not all nights!
This house is a completely worth while choice in the center of Guanajuato. It was a wonderful visit to Guanajuato and the ability to stay in the center of town made it even better. The four of us loved the house including the bedrooms with big beds, plenty of blankets and pillows, and lots of comfy spaces to hang out. From the house, we heard music night and day and it felt romantic. The two bathrooms were nice with plenty of hot water. There is one problem with the gas feed to the stove. The burners don't heat enough to cook very well making it very hard to cook a meal.
I stayed in this home for two weeks while I studied Spanish in Guanajuato in January.
As someone who lives in the woods back in the States I confess I did have to make an adjustment to the festive music that fills almost every street in this active city. However, as a traveler who does not expect life in other countries to duplicate what I am use to - I made the decision to simply adjust and within days I was in the Mexican rhythm of celebrating life through song.
The undeniable benefit of this house is the location. It was as if the central garden was my backyard and I came to know and recognize many faces and activities as the days passed. Once again , not being a city dweller, I came to love the opportunity to weave myself into the constant fun that Guanajuato is such a master of creating.
Everything in the house itself worked well and served me without doubt, although I confess I was not home very often...
Guanajuato is the Crown jewel of the Spanish Colonial cities in Mexico. Being a University city and the place where the Cervantino Festival takes place every year, makes of Guanajuato a unique magical city; there are plenty of concerts and cultural events literally all year long.
If you have visited the city before you know the special atmosphere that the city has and if you haven`t yet, you will not regreet getting to know this vibrant, fascinating and relaxing city.
Something that also makes Guanajuato so special is the wonderfull climate the city has all year long.
