The moonlight at night from the easterly direction reflects right across the lake in front of our shore and is wonderful to see. Lots of stars on a clear night. Very romantic. Try to identify the stars.
At the lakefront we have a wonderful stone patio surrounded by gardens. A pleasant, shady place to sit and have a beverage or snack while looking all the way down the lake and to watch the ducks, loons and boats go by.
There is a rock formation protruding into the lake (The Rock Dock) to the left of the boat dock and the stone patio. You can access the water gradually from the rock or just sit on it listening to the lake lap at your feet. The kids enjoy looking in the small pools and crevices for tiny fish, frogs etc. and to just explore/play on the rocks. To the right of the dock, along the natural shoreline we have water plants where the Heron likes to fish. Keep watch for this magnificent bird. If you don't scare him/her you will see him catch a fish.
A Hammock is available for relaxing, daydreaming and snoozing under the trees. If you want to share that is ok too.
3 mile lake was stocked many years ago with small and large mouth Bass, Pickerel Walleye, Pike and an assortment of smaller fish. The lake is now reaping the benefit of the healthy growth of good size fish. We have caught large fish off the end of the dock.
The boating Dock is approx 16’ in length. The depth of water at end of dock approx 4’ (July and Aug.) The depth may fluctuate according to the dry or wet conditions.
Lakefront is approx 140’ with the previously mentioned deck, dock and a rock area.
Property faces east and the main deck has a shady and a sunny areas. The waterfront deck has sunshine from sunrise to sunset with part filtered shade depending upon the time of day.
Cottage binder Over the years of being fortunate to own a piece of Muskoka we have discovered places to go and explore. For your convenience we have prepared a binder with all kinds of information for operation of the cottage, places to go, eat, play or explore. We will leave brochures of attractions in the areas you might wish to visit.
My husband and I purchased the cottage in 1972. Our children were young and we felt it was a good time to buy our own cottage. I came to Canada in 1956 as a teenager. My family learned quickly how lucky we were to be so close to this wonderful area called Muskoka. We rented cottages for a few years before my parents bought a piece of land on 3 mile lake. They built their cottage in 1966 the year my son was born. My daughter was born in 1963 and spent her first summers at 3 mile lake in a rented cottage across the lake.
Rosemary Domik purchased this cottage in 1972
We had been visiting my parents cottage for a few years and by this time had two children. My sister had 3 children so my parents cottage was getting crowded. The cottage next door came up for sale and we decided it was time to buy it for our own family next door. We loved the lake and the area and wanted to continue our Muskoka experience by expanding the family compound.
This cottage and surroundings is everything you would desire and need for a wonderful vacation in cottage country
The cottage is very private, lots of trees. The view from every window or glass door is beautiful, depending on which direction you look you can see the lake, the trees the gardens.
I love the lake it is my heaven and the cottage is my grown up tree house. We have moved homes many times, but the cottage has been our constant our anchor .The memories we made with our family and friends are priceless. We owned our own business in Toronto and the cottage was our escape from the city and the business. We could relax and play and just enjoy the cottage and the area beauty all around us.
My husband spent hundreds of hours teaching and driving the boat for water skiers. We had many friends and family visiting and enjoyed entertaining on our deck. As the extended family grew and spread out to other provinces we have had family reunions from time to time. It is great to have everyone together enjoying each other, the lake and the fun. My sister also has a cottage near Port Carling and we shared relatives for sleeping but alternated meals for 24 and had teams of cooks and cleanup crews. Each cooking crew tried to outdo the previous teams with gourmet meals. I think we all gained 10 lbs during these reunions.
Unfortunately time marches on. My parents aged, sold their cottage and passed away in 1998. My husband became ill and passed away in 2005, but he was able to keep going to the cottage until Thanksgiving of 2004.
We have 5 grandchildren who also have a deep love of the cottage and who still come up even though they are all progressing with their education and summer jobs. They still make time to come to
My family had a great time at this cottage in August. It is well suited for a family with young children (we have 3 children under the age of 5) since: a) there is access to shallow water; b) the cottage is on gently sloping land (rather than on a steep drop like many other Muskoka cottages); and c) there were some toys for the children at the cottage.
My favourite part of the cottage was the “rock dock”. It is a very nice place to sit or lie down and relax by the water. I also loved the fact that the cottage has two large outdoor speakers connected to a stereo that made it possible for us to play music outside.
We spent a lot of time in the evenings watching movies and tv shows using the harddrive. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of movies to choose from, most of which were recent.
I should comment on the swimming area since the owner’s description of the cottage does not provide a lot of information about this. The entrance to the water area is almost beach like in that it starts out extremely shallow and gradually gets deeper, and that the bottom of the lake is sandy (there were no weeds in the swimming area). A large rock separates the shallow area from slightly deeper water. This rock is almost as high as the surface of the water, and was useful in keeping our young children out of the deeper water. On the deeper side of the rock, the water is about 3-3.5 feet deep. On this deeper side, the bottom of the lake is a little bit rocky (still weed free) but I did not mind the rocks as they were easy to walk on. As a whole, it was a very nice place to swim.
The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and well stocked. One thing it is missing is an indoor shower (there is an indoor bath). The only shower is an outdoor (but private) shower located under the deck. Some people will like the outdoor shower, as there is something nice about taking a shower outside with a lake view. However, it may not be for everyone. For those who would prefer to not shower outside, they could instead take a bath.
We had a great week in July, spending time relaxing, canoeing, dining al fresco, and catching the sun on the deck and dock. We found the cottage with ease, and soon discovered that the pictures in the listing are bang-on accurate. The cottage is charming, with a comfortable living room, a well-stocked kitchen, lots of sleeping space, and the massive deck has great views out to the lake. There is a rather unique outdoor shower, with direct views out to the lake. Potable water is provided from a water cooler, as the plumbing supplies water directly from the lake.
The waterfront tends to be calm, and you can enter the lake from either the dock or the nearby rock slope. An early sunrise was peaceful and beautiful, with only jumping fish and ducks disturbing the calm water.
The property is well maintained with lots of plants and flowers. Rosemary asks that you help water to water the garden, but Mother Nature did her part for us - thankfully during the night. If a lakeside fire is not to your liking, there is a large HDTV with a large collection of movies and TV shows on a hard drive to watch.
Rosemary provided lots of information about the area, and using her directions we found a spectacular waterfall on a river from a nearby lake. We also paddled in the provided canoe to the river exiting our own lake, where we found another beautiful waterfall.
Heaven in Muskoka is cottage-life epitomized, and this property lives up to its name.

if guests are bringing their own boat. it is advisable to drop the boat at the Marina on Cowan park Road (at the Entrance of our road) The road to our cottage is a private one lane road and the driveway is steep.it would be easier to leave the boat at the launch area before checking in at the cottage. The marina is Northland Recreation and they charge a nominal fee to launch the boat.
