About the property

House,& casita 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6) WI FI

Casa Ariel is an enchanting, three bedroom, three and a half bath, light-filled house that includes a guest house (casita). The house is updated regularly. It is in the colorful neighborhood of Colonia San Antonio with its Sunday Street fairs, handicraft mercados, and galleries. This home combines colonial ambience with modern design. As the beautiful decorative gate opens, it leads you down a slate walkway surrounded by colorful flowers and foliage. Set deeply off the street, the garden and fountain that greets you creates a nature sanctuary.

The open floor plan of the house includes an interior atrium that floods the kitchen and living room with light. This spacious home is tastefully furnished with lots of art and plants and includes boveda ceilings, talavera tile, a spacious fully-equipped kitchen, luxury bathrooms, a double jacuzzi, two stained glass windows, gas fireplace, lots of outdoor living space, garden patios, and rooftop terraces.

The guest house casita has its own private entrance with a separate fully-equipped kitchen, living room, dining area, and rooftop dining terrace. The large spacious kitchen and dining area spills out to the outdoor garden and dining patio. It is a perfect house for entertaining. This is a place to relax, enjoy good food, good wine and good conversation with friends traveling together, family, and interesting and creative people that you may meet in your exploration of San Miguel.

After a day filled with sightseeing, gallery hopping, shopping, and theater, relax in a luxurious jacuzzi surrounded by candles, music and the sounds of nature coming from the garden below. This house is a sanctuary from the activities that abound in San Miguel; a warm and inviting place to relax, and absorb the magic and mystery of this wonderful step back in time town.

The location is a five minute walk to the Instituto Allende and a ten minute walk to the Jardin (the center of town).

Great Value Experience/Cost.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time and the house was a great part of our enjoyment. It sits on a quiet street a 15 minute walk from the main plaza, but at the same time you have a fully stocked market a blacksmith a carpenter (not that you need one) a taco stand and two restaurants inside 50 yards. I would definitely visit again.

Lovely house!

  • 4 of 5

We had a few issues when we first arrived, but they were addressed promptly and kindly. The house is lovely! Lots of comfortable space, beautiful tiles throughout, wonderful pottery dishware and serving wear, much from Dolores Hidalgo! We enjoyed fresh squeezed orange juice each morning from a little market around the corner and fresh torillas near the market. We hope to return!

House is adequate, patio and outside terrace is not!!!!!

  • 2 of 5

Our month-long stay at Casa Ariel was a major disappointment. We arrived very late around 11 PM to an extremely dark house with no lights on to welcome us. It was very difficult to negotiate several steps in complete darkness. Upon opening the door the house had a really strong smell of gas along with mold. Apparently the pilot light to the gas fireplace been left on. We opened all the windows and doors to air it out. We communicated both by phone and email to Ariel regarding the gas/mold smell and she was concerned too. After about 3 days Juan ,the gardener, showed us how to work the gas fireplace and where to turn off the pilot light.. The mold smell came from under the sink. We learned through Pilar, the manager that a couple of months prior, there had been a water leak behind the kitchen sink. Amada, the maid cleaned under the sink but most likely the mold odor was from mold growing behind the wall because the mold odor never went away.

We were looking forward to sitting outside and on the roof top areas but the patio area was really not inviting. There were 2 iron chaise lounge chairs. One had no cushion at all while the other was old and worn out. The roof top patio was small and when sitting on a chair, all you could view was a depressing wall. If you stood up there was a pretty view, but it was not at all conducive to sitting. There were no plants and very barren looking.

Since we were staying for a month we were hoping to unpack completely, but the 2nd bedroom had no dresser. We emailed Ariel our concerns about lack of a dresser or chest, coupled with requesting cushions for the chaise lounges. Ariel was quick to respond that our suggestions were good ones. She went on to say that she had asked Pilar the manager to get new cushions along with putting more plants in the garden, new towels, and cups prior to our arrival. We requested a week’s refund for compensation. She refunded $300.00 for what she named ‘the inconvenience’.

We never received the cushions nor any of the promised updates to make our stay more comfortable. We never got to use the patio. Since there were no cushions. Most visitors to San Miquel want to enjoy the beautiful gardens and patios that most homes provide. If that is your priority we cannot recommend Casa Ariel.

Tranquil home in San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

This house is situated in a quiet part of town just a few minutes walk from the Rosewood hotel and 15 minutes from the center of town. The beautiful gated walkway leading up to the home from the street was our first of many surprises. The varied common spaces both in and out were perfect for our family of 4; the roof deck was especially useful for NYE fireworks! Amada the housekeeper helped plan and prepare a delicious meal for us one evening -- a great option when spending time in SMDA. Although we did not meet Pilar, she was incredibly responsive by e-mail and lives locally should you need to meet with her directly.

Thank you Airel for offering your home!

Lovely piece of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here for a wedding this Spring, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! We couldn’t believe how beautiful and private this casa is, and it offers so much more than a hotel room. The Mexican art and tile-work is fabulous--the stained glass, furnishings and décor are colorful and the gardens and bougainvillea were lush and in full bloom! The photos do NOT do it justice! Very convenient to have the washer/dryer on site, too.

The housekeeper, Amada, was friendly and so helpful. She not only helped us prepare food on occasion, but also frequently helped us with the map as we used our beginner level Spanish to ask her about how to get around town. So patient!

We were able to host a nephew and his daughter in the casita-they had privacy but also were close-by for impromptu gatherings in the cozy living room or large kitchen, on the patio, or on the rooftop for views of the city.

We were able to walk to town, or catch a taxi, or take the 5p bus with the locals. We highly recommend Fernando Ibarra for transportation needs. He is an excellent driver who became our friend/Spanish tutor on the various trips we took using his services. He is a former teacher and has a wealth of history that he is happy to share- a lovely man!

We hope to someday return to SMA and would love to stay at Casa Ariel again. Thanks, Ariel, for sharing this little piece of Paradise! Muchas gracias a Amada y Fernando!

Nice home

  • 5 of 5

Good property and location. Amada the housekeeper was a nice lady. We enjoyed our stay at the property. Neighborhood is quiet and near the main plaza. We didnt met pilar the property manager but we had no problems with the house. My mother and the whole family had a great experience in San Miguel. I would recommend Fernando Ibarra for any tour or transportation required. I would stay again on this property.
