About solar living: We rely on the energy of the sun to heat and power the home. While it’s different than on-the-grid living, it’s surprisingly simple to maintain and enjoy. There are a few things to be aware of, but it won’t greatly impact your stay. In the winter months, guests will want to light a fire in the wood stove at night, but most of the day you’ll stay toasty warm thanks to great insulation and radiant floor heating. Please note that the use of hairdryers, space heaters and high wattage appliances cannot be used. Laptop computers and the like, are a-okay, but you won’t want to use these once you see this view. If the home does not have enough solar power to operate, a generator will come on. This is quiet and located on the far side of the utility building which is a about 20 feet from the house.
What to do while you’re here:
Everything is within reach here at the Raven’s Nest.
• Denver is a beautiful 50 minutes drive down I-70.
• Skiing and snow adventuring: Vail Resort is one hour away, Loveland Ski Resort is a short 25 minute drive, and Winter Park is just 50 minutes away. (Depending on road conditions, of course)
• Echo Lake on Mount Evans is a beautiful 30 minute drive where you and your group can hike and take-in the beautiful mountain setting in the summer or ice skate and sled in the winter.
• Take a river or lake fishing trip just a few minutes from the house.
• Enjoy mountain bike trail riding or running from your front door.
• Try-out a white water rafting trip down clear creek in the town of Idaho Springs – a quick ten minute drive from the home or a 20 minute mountain bike ride from the house.
• The home is located between Idaho Springs and Georgetown - two interesting towns with roots in the mining industry with many attractions and things to explore.
• Need a rest from all of that adventuring? Spend a day at Indian Hot Springs or one of the many hot springs nearby.
• Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is 30 minutes away.

About Jason Richert
I'm originally from Seattle, Washington. I currently live in Albuquerque for work. I'm an accountant within the film industry, so I often travel with shows on location. I rock climb, mountain bike, AT ski, eat and love to laugh. I also love to travel the world. You'll find many travel books at the house.
Jason Richert purchased this House in 2012
Why Jason Richert chose Idaho Springs
I bought this home because it is absolutely beautiful and it's so close to skiing, climbing and mountain biking. I also believe in living a green and eco-friendly lifestyle. Living in a solar home has always been a dream of mine.
What makes this House unique
The views, the solar power and being able to step off the deck and mountain bike into town or to nearby lakes and trails. I can literally bike down the hill to a rock climbing area, climb for a while and bike back home. Amazing! We're also close to some the the world's greatest ski areas as well as some incredible back-country skiing. I like that it's an easy drive to Denver if I ever need a change of pace.

Lovely mountaintop experience!
Everything is lovely about this home. The deck was our favorite but we loved how comfortable the accommodations were as well. It was perfect for our family of 5. We enjoyed visiting Idaho Springs and the surrounding trail heads and even driving in to Denver a couple times. Thank you for a restful vacation!
Thank you, Lisa! We truly enjoyed hosting you and your family! We are glad to hear that you had a restful trip.

Spectacular Vacation Home that is fully stock with amenities with a breathtaking view and
This vacation home was amazing and I truly believe it made our family vacation one of the best. Fully furnished with all the amenities needed. We cooked each night and had everything needed. Beds are comfortable and the best is the scenery.
Incredible home, awesome views from every part of the house, peaceful, quiet, and also close enough to stores and restaurants in Idaho Springs.
A Great Vacation!
What a beautiful home! The home was more than we expected! We were a little worried about being "off grid" but enjoyed every moment! The views are fantastic! We loved the wildlife! We had 2 baby foxes around, deer, and even saw a bear across the valley! It is very secluded, but close to everything! The owner was available with any questions we had. We were definitely glad to have had a 4WD vehicle as the drive up to the house really needs the extra clearance. We would love to stay here again the next time we visit Colorado!
Summer in ski country
When on vacation we like to stay at a B&B or rent a house to enjoy that “home away from home” feeling. This experience more than satisfied that feeling; it was exceptional. The property was as advertised and perhaps even a little undersold. The home is quality built, immaculate and inviting. Just bring your clothes and your food; you’re home. We were continually treated to homey touches like an extensive library and video collection that satisfied everyone’s taste, beds and linens to die for, furniture you can actually lounge in and a great telescope (wait ‘til you see craters on the moon.) The views from the wraparound deck can hardly be described. In all directions are steep mountain slopes wrapped in a blanket of evergreen. The highest peaks were still snow covered in July.
At nearly nine thousand feet, nature provided the summer air conditioning as well as hummingbirds galore and a pair of red foxes that would sun themselves every day in the yard. The property is accessed via a dirt road winding up the mountain. By the second day the excitement (not a negative thing) of a steep curvy road became just a drive in the woods. We, as other visitors noted, also recommend a four wheel drive vehicle.
In order to make this review well rounded and fair, I must disclose the down side of this rental home in the mountains… “I could not find the can opener.”
Let us know if you need some suggestions on where to go. Happy to help you customize your trip.
