Overview of french quarter ('vieux carre'):
The french quarter, also known as the vieux carré, is the oldest neighborhood in the city of new orleans. When new orleans (la nouvelle-orléans in french) was founded in 1718 by jean-baptiste le moyne de bienville, the city was originally centered on the french quarter, or the vieux carré ('old square' in french) as it was known then. While the area is still referred to as the vieux carré by some, it is more commonly known as the french quarter today, or simply 'the quarter.' the district as a whole is a national historic landmark, and contains numerous individual historic buildings. It was affected relatively lightly by hurricane Katrina in 2005, as compared to other areas of the city and the greater region. Near Louis Armstrong New Orleans international airport, Amtrak station, bar/pub.

Overall home is in a good spot. The area is a bit dodgey at night when it is late. There was a shooting on our street that weekend, so you have to keep your head up. Walking distance to Bourbon street.
Owner lives right next door and checks in frequently, so know that he stops by all the time without asking and has a key to get in if the door is locked.
Condition of home was ok. Coffee pot had tons of mold in it, frig had old food in it and the front door was broken with garbage piled on the front porch . If you are looking to have a no frills place to party, not a bad choice.
We rented this house for a 30th birthday party. The house is great, very unique and full of New Orleans art and character. The owner and agent were very laid back and accommodating. The owner gave us a tour and some great recommendations for places to visit in town. You're an easy walk from the French quarter, but far enough away where nights are quiet. We loved it! We'll definitely use one of their properties for our next trip.
I stayed at the mansion for a long weekend with a group of 9 guys in June of '14. My impressions:
-Owner was extrememly easy to work with - everything with the check-in and check-out and house was as previously discussed with the owner. Expectations were clear. Owner even left a map of nearest points of interest to the house.
-The house was in a good location - easy access to Bourbon, Frenchman and spots to catch cabs.
-The house was sweet - everyone (10 guys) had their own bed and there were empty places left to sleep. The living room was big enough for us to hang out in (all together) and had a stereo which was nice. We didn't use the other large sitting room connected to the main living room (I was surprised that we had so much apce). The bathrooms were nice, clean and seemed new. The house was clean and the appliances worked. The art and architecture gave the house a unique character which definitely enhanced my trip.
Other than that, I didn't really use the courtyard for much time since I wasn't around the house a whole lot, but there were tables and chairs there and it was nice knowing that we had outdoor space if we wanted it.
Overall this was a great property.
Also, some of the neighbors were pretty friendly. One of our guys arrived at the house in the afternoon when no one was home on Friday and our neighbor accross the street invited him to come sit on the porch and hang out unitl we got home.
I was planning my brother's bachelor party and came across this listing. I stayed in the house with 10 other guys. We were able to all sleep comfortably. The house is great for a long weekend with the guys (or girls for that matter). About a 5 block walk to Bourbon Street. I would definitely stay there again!
9 of my friends and I stayed at this unit and absolutely loved it. It was very spacious and would be perfect for any Bachelor/Bachelorette party. Decent location, it was a quick 10-15 minute walk to the heart of the French Quarter. This unit could easily sleep 10 people in beds and you could sleep even more with the sofas and air mattresses provided. The private courtyard in the back and balcony on the second floor were really nice touches. The agent and owner who handled our rental were very laid back and friendly. I would love to stay here again if I was ever traveling with a large group. I would highly recommend this property.
Located just steps outside of the French Quarter. Easy walk to all the local bars, restaurants and all the action you want to see in New Orleans! Close to Streetcar line and easy to catch a cab!
