About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths

20 minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. Only a few minutes from Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls and Woodland Park. Gambling in Cripple Creek in only a scenic drive away (about 40 mins.) The snow ski area of Breckenridge is only 90 minutes away!

Great hiking, jogging, bicycling at the front door.

Close to fishing, horseback riding, river rafting, and also many antique shops close by.

Close to lots of amenities, but still nestle in the pine trees at the base of famous Pike's Peak mountain. At night you can almost reach up and touch the stars!!

3 large picture windows give our guests a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, pine trees and wild life. It is not unusual to see deer, bears and foxes

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house Dec. 23rd - 28th. Soon as we stepped into the house we felt right at home. Everything was just what it said it was. We had no problems what so ever. We even got to see Snow Christmas Eve which was the most important thing for my granddaughter! ! This is a Christmas that we'll always treasure!! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Gibson for allowing us to stay in your home. May God continue to Bless you.

Nice cabin, great area, terrific views.

The cabin (house) is functional. The fireplace is great. The fridge needs to be cleaned out! The phone landline worked sporadically (no big deal), but AT&T mobile users be aware that service is sparse in the area. Also, while the TV in the back bedroom worked okay (basic broadcast channels), the TV in the main living area didn't work. This wasn't a deal during day because we were out enjoying the outdoors and the several great hikes in the area. However, during the evenings when it gets dark early, we had to get a bit more creative. Overall, a good experience.

Owner's Response: As an absent landlord, I depend our manager to take care of the many details: I'm sorry for the fridge and will see to it that it is properly cleaned. As far as the TV in the family room, unless both controls are set properly, it will not work, the same as for the one in the bedroom. Again, I am sorry and hope your stay at Bear Mountain Retreat was still enjoyable! Thank you for your review. Dave & Michele Gibson

Great Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I've stayed in quite a few different cabins in Green Mountain Falls, Woodland Park, and Cascade. This cabin by far was my favorite. Very cozy and relaxing. Me and my wife had a great honeymoon and hopefully we can spend our anniversary's here.

Thank you and God Bless

Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved the mountain scenery and secluded feeling while being very close to the city. The cabin was roomy and cozy . We really liked the carport for keeping our bikes out of the weather. We will do this again.

Very disappointed in many ways.

  • 1 of 5

The property from the outside looked nice. However the inside of the property was dirty when we arrived and the bedding was not fresh or clean. The pillows smelled like drool, so we went and bought new pillows and pillow cases. The first night we arrived I had to kill 5 spiders in the master bedroom that were in the windows and there were two in the master bed. We were going to leave after the first night, but thought we could take care of the spiders and since we already bought new pillows and pillow cases we decided to stay. However, after four days when the bathroom in the mater bedroom was used the other bathroom smelled like septic. It was really bad when you used the shower in the bathroom in the master bedroom. After a couple of days of that, we decided to leave a day early because the spiders got worse and so did the septic smell. The worst part of the experience was how the owner has not responded to any of my emails. His secretary has responded to one email, but the owner of the property has not responded. Before we arrived the owner was great at responding to questions, but when I had issues and tried let the owner know he has been 100% unresponsive.

Nice, Cozy Cabin

  • 4 of 5

I stayed at this cabin for a few days with some old college friends, and we enjoyed our stay. When I initially arrived, I had been given the wrong combination to the lockbox to get the key, but I made a quick phone call and it was resolved immediately. The place was well furnished for my group of six, and beds were comfortable. There was good temperature control. I thought my minivan rental would have difficulty going up the steep dirt driveway to the property, and it may have if there had been severe rain, but as it was there were no problems with that. My only issues with the property were lack of Wi-Fi and the ants in the kitchen. The first day, I noticed about 20-30 ants wandering the kitchen counters and cabinets, but they had not found any food. The property manager came by the second or third day to put some ant traps around, and that helped somewhat. Fortunately, there were no bears or raccoons, but we did see deer in the woods around the cabin. The location is very close to a major highway, so it was easy to get to Colorado Springs and further. I would recommend this cabin to other small groups or families looking for a quiet, secluded getaway, if you're fine without Internet.
