Tailings - Studio Apartment in the Mountains!

Bedrooms 1
Space 250 sq. ft.
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Affordable apartment in the mountains - scenic and serene!

Tailings is a 250 square foot studio apartment that sits on Snyder Mountain in picturesque Evergreen! She is sister to Fool's Gold Cottage and Prospector's Place, a Bear Creek Group property.

Tailings abuts the owner's home and overlooks mountain views in a quite neighborhood and offers guests their own access and front yard making it feel apart from the owner's home. Guests come and go as they please. The owners offer their guests lots of privacy and make sure their dogs are respectful as well. Their dogs are in a separate fenced in area from the studio. Tailings is located near the border of Jefferson and Clear Creek Counties, convenient to many outdoor activities including: rafting, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, road biking, running, mountaineering, mountain climbing, zip lining, elite athletic training, and hunting just to name a few. If you want to visit Denver, it's only a 50 minute drive. There are also plenty of trails right by the studio. **Because the studio is located in Alpine conditions, please make sure that it would be suitable for your stay if you have a child under the age of six, are elderly, or have a physical disability.** No more than two occupants and NO PETS. Two night minimum stay on weekends (F/S).

Tailings has its own separate access with off street parking. During heavy snow, the worse case scenario is you may have to park at the top of the driveway and walk 50 yards up and down the driveway. The owners do plow the driveway when it is 3+ inches, but some times they cannot keep up with mother nature during heavy snow.

Most guests come to the mountains to get away, so the owners do very little interaction with their guests while offering a friendly, quiet, and inviting atmosphere. If any issues come up, they are on the matter right away.

Each home in the neighborhood sits on two acres covered with pine and aspen trees so neighbors are not noticeable, but you are still able to see the mountain views. Hiking in the neighborhood offers scenic views as well.

The studio is not close to any public transportation. Front wheel drive cars do fine up here and the roads are well maintained in the winter. Four wheel or all wheel drive cars are recommended as their is about 1/2 mile of dirt road to the studio and steep roads. Directions on the flattest way to get to Tailings to avoid steep hills are provided for guests. Rear wheel or Volkswagen brands are not recommended during the winter.

The owners hope to be your hosts and are happy to answer any questions potential guests may have about the studio or the area.

Happy Travels!

Thanks for everything - we loved our stay and the lovely lodging. We felt pampered! Best - Karen and Zack

Karen - thank you for the nice note and the nice gifts! The Petrified Wood is now part of the decor in the studio. They fit nicely with the theme! We look forward to having you back to visit as again. - Tracey :)

Nice quiet place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

I was attending a conference in Golden and after reviewing the hotel options, I opted for something more interesting.... this cabin about 35 minutes away. It was a good choice although to be honest, I never spent much there except to sleep and get a change of clothes. On the last day I did do some computer work in the morning and it was nice to work in the peace of the surroundings there. I might add that the internet worked fine.... a small but important detail for those of us travelling on business.

I met Tracey briefly on the last day when I contacted her with some questions.... she was very responsive and friendly and in fact during the entire process of booking and confirming the accommodations, she communicated very well with plenty of precise details and quite promptly.

The bed was very comfortable but since I was by myself, I didn't unfold it out to its full size for two people. Thus I can't comment on how it would have worked for two people or whether the available space would still have been suitable. A single traveller, it worked quite well.

Overall, this was a positive experience and I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Good experience

  • 3 of 5

Tracey was very gracious and accommodating. The studio was small but fitted our needs well. Very pretty area of Colorado. I would suggest hooks behind the door for coats and 3 shelves in the closet instead of 2. A crockpot might be nice. Overall a very good experience.

This cute and cozy studio is located in the mountains of Evergreen, Colorado, Clear Creek County- close to many outdoor activities. The land that is not developed where the studio is located, is BLM land and the wildlife viewing includes fox, deer, elk, Albert's black squirrel, cougar (if you are lucky to see one), bald eagles (another lucky find), hawks, various humming birds, finches, meadowlark, lark bunting (state bird) and bear. For more information about hunting on BLM land, please visit the Colorado Department of Wildlife. The studio is less than a mile to hunting trails.

If you are the athletic type and are training, or just a fitness enthusiast in general, then this area is for you! Just walking around the area provides beautiful walks. Looking for something more challenging? Then bike, run, walk, or hike up Witter Gulch Road towards Mount Evans or even drive to Mount Evans and ascend 17.7 miles to the top. It's the highest paved road in America and reaches to a height of 14,240 feet. At the top, you can view the Mountain Sheep and the entire front range.

Evergreen is one of the first cities on the way to the ski resorts as you climb I-70. Downtown Evergreen has a lake that offers year round activities including fishing, ice skating, hockey and non-motor boating. Downtown boarders the river where you can shop, dine and enjoy speaking with the all around good folks!

Whether you are seeking to relax, test your mountain skills, and/or indulge in outdoor activities, Tailings is just the right home away from home for you! We look forward to being your host when you stay with us!
