About the property

A Fabulous Home With 3/2 Bath Total Or Can Be Rented As Smaller Units!

This wonderful updated cabin in the pines has all the comforts of home, and the quaint feel of a rural getaway! The home is surrounded by pine trees that can be enjoyed from a large front deck or the enclosed sleeping porch. The home is convenient to many wonderful hikes and sight seeing opportunities of the Mongollon Rim. It is also only 75 miles from beautiful Sedona red rock scenery.

ATV opportunities are plentiful in the summer months and the community itself is very friendly to ATV's. You can also enjoy a fire in the fire pit (if weather/burn conditions allow).

Snow and winter activities are also easily accessible in the winter months and will allow the Phoenix visitors to enjoy a bit of the white powder.

About Katrina Koshar

We are a family from Arizona and Wyoming that thought a cabin in the Pines would be a great asset to share with other families through VRBO. We have always wanted a summer getaway from the heat of Phx and found Pine to be a quaint and enjoyable little home away from home.

Katrina Koshar purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Katrina Koshar chose Capital Territory & High Country

We chose this property as it has great flexibility for a vacation rental. It has large great room/open space that can be used for large groups/families/parties! We have equipped the home with multiple sleeper sofa's, air mattresses, bunk beds, etc. This allows for large groups to enjoy the space together for a very economical price, when comparing to multiple hotel rooms.

What makes this cabin unique

The main home has 2 bedrooms upstairs with one bathroom. A large family room that is open to the dining area and kitchen. It features a pellet stove for heat on a cool winter night, and allows for the warmth of a fire.

The home has a separate basement apartment that has one bedroom, one bath, a full kitchen, and a large living room.

4th of July!

  • 5 of 5

4th of July Festivities in Payson were awesome! The home was big enough to accomodate us all and we loved it! The BBQ didn't work which put a damper on our holiday dinner plans, but we were still happy to be out of the desert heat. We were so happy to have the basement room to use. Thanks for a great weekend!

Great for Big Groups

  • 4 of 5

I want to start off by saying that this cabin is perfect for small or big groups, especially if you have kids! My group had 9 adults and 7 kids (6 different families in all), and as long as you are okay with a bit of communal living (not worried about separate rooms for separate families if your group is as big as ours) then this is the place for you.

The listing doesn't specify this, but the downstairs has a full kitchen (not stocked, but still has a stove and a full fridge/freezer), living room with a large sectional and TV, and a large bedroom with and en-suite bathroom. Also, it is NOT connected to the upstairs, meaning you have to walk outside and up the stairs to get to the main house.

We decided to have the largest family stay in the bedroom downstairs, and the rest of the kids in the living room downstairs. This was kid central for the weekend, which was great because it kept the upstairs from feeling super crowded, as not everyone would be up there at once, and was great for the older kids of the group.

The listing is also a little unclear, but upstairs, along with being fully stocked, has a bedroom with a queen bed, and a bedroom with two bunk beds, AND a futon. The couches also pull out as beds, but we didn't have to use these. Lastly, there is a bathroom upstairs. It's pretty tight, and the clawfoot tub can be a little frightening to navigate, but it gets the job done.

The cabin was fully stocked with kitchen necessities, paper goods, and linens. We mostly brought our own disposable dishes, etc., but it seemed everything else was there. I three complaints, which is why I did not give the location 5 stars.

1) The cabin was not cleaned as well as I would have expected after paying a $125 cleaning fee. There were popcorn pieces and other gross stuff behind the couches downstairs, and there was a lot of dust and cobwebs. I understand that it's in the forest, but it's obvious that there just is not a lot of care taken to really cleaning anything than what's on the surface or above eyesight.

2) There was no working plunger. We ended up needing one and had to go and buy it ourselves. I could have called the owner to get a plunger, but it was quicker to buy our own.

3) I had to ask for my deposit back after not hearing anything about it a week after our stay.

Other than that, it was great, we had a great time, we all fit easily, and we would stay again!

Great location, clean place, and wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

It was a wonderful property! We love ATV'ing so it was super convenient to the trails, close to town and little shops, and it was all about the location. We only had 4 of us so didn't utilize all of the space (we didn't even go downstairs) they had but it was perfect for us! We will definitely book again if we are in the area!

Tonto Natural Bridge

Tonto Natural Bridge is an impressive stone formation located just north of Payson, Arizona. The entrance to the park is about 10 miles north of Payson along highway 87. There are two paths down. The bridge itself is an amazing site with a stream passing underneath and waterfalls pouring from above. The park also features other hiking trails, picnic areas, and a gift shop.

Fossil Springs

Fossil Creek and Fossil Springs are little-known wonders of the 'rim country' of central Arizona. As this scenic canyon approaches the base of the Mogollon Rim, it suddenly transforms from a rather typical high desert canyon to an amazing water wonderland. Directions: Turn left on Fossil Creek Road (FR708) at Strawberry Lodge in the town of Strawberry. Go 4 miles west on a dirt road. Turn right and progress .5 miles to the trailhead parking lot.

Pine-Strawberry Museum

Tucked just beneath Arizona's Backbone, the famed Mogollon Rim, the Pine-Strawberry Museum in Pine, Arizona, was opened in 1979 for the purpose of displaying artifacts relative to the prehistory and history of Pine and its twin among the pines, Strawberry. Located on rout 87 near Payson. Call 928-476-3547 for more information.

Railroad Tunnel Trail TR390

Directions: Go north through Whispering pines past the first fork in the road (keep going straight) until you come to the next road that turns right on FR 32 (see sign to Washington Park). Drive about 5 miles on gravel road to Washington Park trailhead parking lot. Once on the trail, watch for small sign on the trail that goes to the right up a steeper climb to the railroad tunnel. After resting at the tunnel, you can continue your hike to the top of the rim (trail continues to the left of the tunnel). At the top of the rim across the rim road you will see a historical marker that describes the battle of 'Big Dry Wash' where 16 to 27 warriors were killed. If you follow the road 1 mile further north you come to 'General Springs Cabin' which was build in 1918 and used for many years as a fire guard station. A nearby spring was named after General George Crook who used the spring while traveling the old Fort Apache Camp Verde military road. This cabin has been preserved for historical significance. The total hike from the parking lot at Washington Park trailhead up to the Railroad tunnel and on to General Springs Cabin and back is about 3 hours. Take plenty of water to drink and wear good hiking shoes.

Cinch Hook Sno-Park

(Also know as the 'gravel pit') is the premier family fun place to sled or go tubing. Inflatables or light-weight plastic sleds are the only devices permitted. No snow boards, skis, wood or metal sledding devices are allowed. Open seven days per week from sunrise to sunset. Portable toilets and a trash dumpster is provided. The park is located just 7.3 miles north of Strawberry on the south side of the road.
