About Elsie Mae Clements
We have been coming to Niagara-on-the-Lake for about 20 years before we decided to purchase our second home. We are Canadian and have loved this historic area all of our lives! Being avid biking enthusiasts we would frequently take our tandem bike and cycle along the Niagara Parkway, up the escarpment, salute General Brock, pass by Niagara Falls and have a little bite to eat in Chippawa and then make our way back home again. Our dreams were of retirement in Niagara-on-the-Lake and that may still happen, but until then we are happy to share our special place with you! We love everything about this town, the culture, the history and especially the quaintness of such a pretty place. We have tried to bring all of that into our house with the décor and our art collection. We love sitting in our kitchen and enjoying the morning sun sharing a morning coffee and deliberating are we going to cook or pop over to a bakery and get warm sticky buns! I am a bit of news addict, but when I am here the rest of the world seems so far away that I am hesitant to let it in. This truly is a place where we come to escape the every day and rejuvenate ourselves! Our family has grown now and spread around the world. We will forever cherish our family memories! Our hope is that you, as our guests, will build memories and a holiday to remember and want to come back and explore this more of Niagara-on-the-Lake. No matter what the change, its heart and character are protected so that you will always feel like you have a special place to come too!
Why Elsie Mae Clements chose Historic Old Town
A lovely house. A perfect location, quiet and peaceful but within a couple of minutes walk to everything.
What makes this House unique
Lovely wrap around porch, and views of the Niagara River, close the hiking trails and bicycle routes.
Canceled bookings will not receive a refund
Great location, great price, all amenities needed, comfy beds, lovely porch. We had a great time. We will be back!
Very much enjoyed our stay. Had everything we needed and was in s great location.
Lovely spot in the centre of NOTL.
The house was lovely and in a great location. Loved having breakfast on the wraparound porch. A short walk to the main street and to the park by the water. Lovely breakfast room and well equipped kitchen. Two minor points: In hot weather the air conditioning does not really work well upstairs especially in the back bedroom. Also would suggest rewriting the TV instructions.
Cozy Home in Excellent Location
This was a great spot for a girls' weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Janet (the property manager) was easy to work with, and timely with all items regarding deposits, check-in, etc. The three of us loved the location - one street up from the lake, and an easy walk to the town's main street. The small backyard provided some extra privacy, as there are no window coverings at the back of the home. The sun porch at the back of the house really added to the "vacation" atmosphere of the location, according to one member of our party. We also liked the wide staircase to the second floor -- made getting luggage up and down easier.
A few small minuses for this property are:
1. There is only one full bathroom. With three adults, we were able to navigate this; however, if there were six people in the home (which I believe it's listed as being able to accommodate), things might get a little tough.
2. The window covering in the half bath attached to the bedroom at the front of the house only goes halfway up the window. If someone is trying to use that as a spot to put on makeup or shave while only wearing a towel, they're exposed from the chest up. Also, it didn't feel very private while sitting on the toilet.
3. The bedroom at the front of the house -- with the floral motif -- has blinds, but no operable curtains/drapes, and it gets very bright in the morning (sunrise was before 6 a.m. when we stayed in early May). If you need/want a dark room for sleeping, bring a sleep mask and/or ask the rental agent if the window coverings have been updated.
Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Lovely home, filled with natural light, plenty of room and so much charm!
Myself and 5 girlfriends enjoyed a girls weekend at your lovely Shaw Rendevous. It was very clean, kitchen was well equipped, there was plenty of room for everyone to relax and enjoy meals together. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms charmingly decorated. There were 3 bathrooms so no one was ever inconvenienced. There was an abundance of natural light in the kitchen and bedrooms that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The lake was steps away and the downtown shops and restaurants were a 5 min walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and all 6 ladies agreed that we would happily stay there again one day. Thank you Janet for an amazing experience. We shall return. The girls from Kitchener
Always Our Favourite
I always love the Shaw Rendevous.
It has been almost a decade of going to the Shaw Rendevous for my family. We have spent so many summer nights, sipping wine and laughing on the porch and enjoying endless great meals on the back deck. The rooms are spacious and it's a hop, skip and a jump to the main strip in Niagara On the Lake. Not to mention, it's a stones throw away from the Angel Inn.. Our personal favourite!
I highly recommend this home away from home. You will not regret it.
The best kept secret in Canada is this little town located just a 20 minute picturesque drive from the most famous address in the world, Niagara Falls!! Lots of people have it on their bucket list to see Niagara Falls, once you have seen the spectacular Falls, then what do you do? Many visitors to NOTL come across it by accident, and can’t believe their luck to have found such a beautiful town.
Come and stay in our quaint little town of Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL); ‘the prettiest town in Canada’. Canadians are known for their modesty, so this little town has been kept as a real treat to explore and be surprised by all that is going on around here!
Originally the capital of Canada, Niagara-on-the-Lake has historical significance not only to Canada but the USA as well. It is a walk through history as you can explore Fort George, see Fort Niagara (across the mighty Niagara River), battle fields and historical monuments that can give you the real feel for what has happened not so very long ago!
Our geographical location lends itself well to be prime soft fruit farm land. We are well known for grapes, peaches, cherries, strawberries and have the festivals to prove it! In the mid 1970’s the wine industry realized that a wide variety of grapes could be grown and as well we have the unique ability to produce Ice Wine. We are now internationally recognized and produce some of the finest wines in the world!
Now along with the wine, we have become the culinary capital of Canada. You never know when chefs from the Food Network or HGTV are gracing our tables with their talents!
Love live theatre? we have the largest award winning repertory theatre in North America. The Shaw Festival Theatre has grown to be a significant venue in the theatre world often offering a mix of the high brow with a taste of a good old musical that gets the toes tapping and the heart singing!
Outdoor activities…well they abound here from golf, hiking, walking, birding, horseback riding, sightseeing, to just plain old strolling and enjoying the town! This area is pretty flat so it is becoming a mecca for cyclists! For those that like to cruise in their car, it’s wonderful to go around to wineries, shops, fruit stands or other interesting vistas. But for those that want the challenge there is ‘The Bench’ and the escarpment that will give you the work out to get your heart pounding!
Increasing in popularity is cycling the Welland Canal from one end to the other, watching all the ships go through the locks!
Families will find an abundance of things to do with the kids. There are public swimming pools, play grounds, wading pools, petting zoos, largest touring chocolate factory in North America and Fort George where they can explore what kids did 200 years ago! Just go outside with your kids because it’s a safe place to roller blade along some of the paved trails, toss a ball around our go for picnics and read a book to the little ones while watching spectacular sunsets over Lake Ontario.
Girls get-away? couples reuniting or friends just hanging out can get organized tours or just do some last minute reservations to see what tickles their fancy! Take a Jet Boat Ride up the Niagara River and you can claim that you challenged the most dangerous rapids of all at a category six! Not so adventurous…suck it up, the jet boat ride is a blast and really amazing to see Niagara Falls from a vantage point that there is no other way to see!
Golf, Golf, Golf, Golf…do you like Golf? Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club (9 holes) is ranked one of the top 10 in North America and is the oldest one still functioning. Want more challenging courses, well there are lots and lots. But make your reservations early!!
From gourmet food to family friendly, we have restaurants to offer the best of the best. Or do you like to cook? We have amazing fruit stands, farmer’s markets and boutique food stores that will inspire even the basic of cooks! I am always surprised by what our guests do in our town that I have never even thought of! Photographers, gardeners, birders , geo-cashers, vintners, cyclers, antiquers and geekers… seems we have something for everyone! Looking forward to seeing you around too!
